HOW TO: Change carrier text permanently without Personalizer!
 

Well, I remembered this from the TP1 days. It involves editing a single manila file and it works without needing to use Personalizer or any other program.

The file in question is: 1c684cd8_manila

You also need m9editor

Steps:
1. Copy 1c684cd8_manila from your device's Windows directory with File Explorer (may not work), Resco Explorer, OR Total Commander.
2. Open m9editor
3. Click 3rd icon at the top "open mode9 file"
4. Browse for and open 1c684cd8_manila
5. In the "find" box at the top right, search for "carriertext", there should only be one instance and it should bring you to a line that says "Name=Instance Name Value="CarrierNetwork" or something very similar.
6. Remove the "CarrierNetwork" text from the yellow boxes below and press the "Ok" button.
7. Two lines below that you should see "Name=String Value="" Edit the second yellow box to whatever you want, and press the "Ok" button.
8. Save the file. (It is read only, so to make it writable you will have to right click the file before saving, go to properties, and uncheck the read-only attribute)
Optional two steps (one of the two is required):
9. Disable TF3D by going into settings>today>items>uncheck TouchFLO 3d
9b. Copy back to device replacing the one in Windows
9c. Re-enable TF3D
OR
9. Copy back to device replacing the one in Windows
9b. Soft-reset device.

When it is all done it should look like this:

ALSO: FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT THIS DONE BY ME, AND HAVE "BACKGROUND4ALLPAGES" installed, you will NEED to upload your 1c684cd8_manila OR tell me in advance, as this file as this is edited by background4allpages and mine is stock.

Update: Changing the carrier text will replace "Call History" with "# Missed Calls" # being the number, even if it is 0.
Update 2: I made a test call to my phone, and it changed to "1 Missed Call" but after tapping it and going into the call history, it went back to the original "Call History" so it appears to be temporary, and happens after soft-resets.

Thank you so very very much This is awesome. What did you exactly edit cause I tried 4 times and kept getting weird results
That works just fine except now under missed calls it says 0 missed calls? before it just said plain ole MISSED CALLS

Here is my original this is off a sprint TP2 stock rom

You know, I didn't even notice that. Great find! It appears as though changing the carrier text also replaces "Call History" or "Missed Calls" with "# Missed Calls"

Update: After a test call to my phone, it changed to 1 Missed Call and after dismissing it, went back to the original "Call History"

Very kool, now I can free up some space without personalizer. I'm starting to learn every bit helps/counts.

Also, how do you change the text in the taskbar where it says normally says "Start"

Hey as a note I have Background for all pages I've just noticed that gets broken as well. What happens is I get a white box where Sprint would be and the pages default to windows default wallpaper. Not a big deal hope this helps I"m sure many others have the same mod installed if there is anything I can do to help let me know

Nice catch so the 0 calls is solved next background for all pages

Nice find #2, I will edit the file you uploaded, since that may be an edit that is done by background4allpages, and I don't have that on my phone.

freezacgood stuff...the true test is when someone sends you s pic mail...i have done this previously only to discover it effs with picmail and thats why i never went public with it...as far as bg4a yes...it will break this as well as my customization...

What is the advantage of using this method rather then Personalizer? I Change the text often, this is why I ask.

Well, if you change text often I guess there is no real added benefit. However, this does not rely on any scripts. (which have a small impact on battery life)

Ok....idiot moment. How do I install this again. I know Ive done it on my TP1, I just cant recall. Is there a way without TC?

Well, you could try file explorer, but i'm not sure if it will let you replace ROM files. Your best bet, without a 3rd party file explorer, is to disable TF3D before trying to replace.

A swipe up and down fixes it. I don't understand how changing the carrier text effects certain things so much but i'm definitely looking into it.

I'm starting to believe it's a feature of TF3D that monitors Carrier Names and applies certain settings to Call History/Voicemail/Missed Calls portions of the Home tab, and when replacing the carrier name with something else, those portions become "confused" and that's where the 0 Missed Calls, 0 Voicemails come from. However, once you connect a call, TF3D applies the settings based on what network you're on.

Weird? Definitely.
