Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I called Verizon Wireless this afternoon about my defective Touch Pro 2. I told them the Touch Pro 2 was having trouble holding a charge, and both batteries I tried had no effect. They agreed to send me a new phone. When I called in September, they were out of stock. When I called at the beginning of October, they were out of stock. When I called this evening, telling them that I needed a new phone and that my 30 days of Worry Free were almost up, they told me this: They could send me a refurbished phone, but I don’t want a refurbished phone (for many reasons). I asked about waiting until they got back in stock with the Touch Pro 2, and then the rep from Verizon told me they were most likely discontinuing the Touch Pro 2 since it had been so long without any in stock. And because they were not going to get any more in stock, I could either have a refurbished phone, or I could give up my Worry Free guarantee and not get a new phone and be stuck with this one. I even suggested that PERHAPS it was because the Touch Pro 2 was getting a 6.5 software update, and she said she would have heard of something like that now, due to her experience with the BB Storm getting a software update and going temporarily out of stock. I told her these two stories are kinda totally different.
So what do you all think? Is Verizon going to stop selling this phone, due to network problems as this rep thought? What should I do? Should I call them back and just accept the refurbished phone? Or should I wait it out and wait til they get new stock? If they get new stock, they said they WOULD get me a new phone, even past my Worry Free date. Nothing is ACTUALLY wrong with the battery, I just want a brand new phone because I was stupid and left a dent in the phone that makes the keyboard slider unworkable. Hell if im living with that mistake for 2 years. I bought a case and a screen protector the day after so it wouldn’t happen again. Your moral judgments against my selfishness aside, what should I do if Im set on a new TP2? Thank you. |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Um, I think that is highly unlikely. Verizon is not going to spend the R&D (I know, that sounds funny, but they probably do spend some bux on qual) and add, what, 5,000 phones to their network? They are taking on Q&A, training, support costs, etc, etc, to support a minimal amount of phones that they would then yank?
It is more likely that HTC and Verizon are working on ironing some of the obvious bugs (let's hope) before rolling out the TP2 with WinMo 6.5. Us early adopters will then eventually get the update because they don't want to support 5,000 people with phones that don't match the other 50,000 TP2's that they have their network. |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
i can't possibly see them pulling this phone, could be wrong though, maybe there is something we don't know about. but as normalguy said, a lot of time and money goes into releasing a new phone on the network, i doubt they'd pull after only a month of being out. i'd hold out, only if you like it of course. if you don't like the tp2 then get something else before your 30 days are up. tough call though, i think they are bluffing

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
The phone has been out for all of one month, why would it be discontinued? This is a problem with some of these call centers, they can be so clueless and they probably told you that because they thought you would probably be more clueless. Oh and by the way since you caused damage to your own phone just settle for a refurb and make space for the people who really got issues.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Don't know where they got that from, but VZW is not discontinuing the phone.
|
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
that would be like AT &T saying the iphone was discontinued after it was out of stock for so long back in the day
|
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I also don't think they're discontinuing it, at least not after just 1 month out.
There was, however, that document floating around (someone's speculation anyway) that the phone would have a short shelf life. I think they suggested it would only be around for 4 or 5 months. I even think that's short but I dunno. |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
the phones from HTC TP2 and Imagio are having an issue with the radios. the phones get stuck in 1Xand have to be reset to get back to 3G and yes there is a big diff in speed. ..... I have an imagio and im about ready to head to the dark side of crackberry.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Found this entry in another forum today. Hope it's true!
"I just got off the phone with the Sacremento Verizon Sales call center. He said that the TP2 will be in stock tomorrow and to call him around 12pm PST and I should be able to order it.....Could the wait finally be over????" |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
They're waiting on stock of ones loaded with 6.5 according to my business account manager and the CS rep I spoke too. They extended my worry free 30 extra days so I can get a new one when it comes in (I have stuck pixels, battery door loose, bad earpiece, and some touchscreen sensitivity issues at the bottom of the screen). Just chill out.

The whole VZW waiting for TP2's loaded with 6.5 is the only thing that makes sense to me. I think the CS the OP spoke to was either intentionally misleading or just plain stupid.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I just got off the phone with Verizon. My Touch Pro 2 is defective as the TV Out cable I purchased for it stopped working on it, even after multiple hard resets. The cable isn't defective because it works fine on my original Touch Pro. They didn't have any warranty replacements, so they are sending me a new one once they get more in.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I just got off the phone ordering the Imagio. I wanted the TP2, but the rep says that the phone is at "end of life" and they are not going to be offering or producing anymore at Verizon.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
5 bucks says they meant the touch pro not the touch pro 2

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
VZW isn't going to discontinue the TP2. The rep prolly got confused and thought of the TP1. Phone is a best-seller for all carriers.

i agree with reps not knowing what they r talking about! as i am a rep i do keep in the know whats going on with devices. dont know if they r holding stock to upgrade to 6.5 or they just didnt expect to sell this many. I have a list of customers that r waiting to purchase the phones and i have to check stock everyday we havent even had the touch pro 2 in stock at the store i just have to order from the warehouse. but funny thing we have the imagio invstore only time will tell what they r going to do we never had the diamond in store im thinking they really want us to push the blackberrys or the new google phone coming in a few weeks. anytime customers want to see the phone they have to look at mine. i think i should expense this phone lol |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Anyone who thinks VZW is going to stop selling the TP2 needs to use your head and it will be a very simple and logical answer that you get. Just answer these questions:
1. Did VZW spend money to have HTC make a TP2 for them and their network? 2. Did VZW spend money to train their CS and Support reps for the TP2? 3. Did VZW spend money on marketing for the TP2? 4. Did VZW sell out of the their stock of TP2s very quickly? All of those questions can be unquestionably answered with a "yes" which leads to the last question: 5. Does VZW want to make money? Obvioulsy the answer to the last one is also a "yes." Therefore it is impossible to believe that VZW will EOL the TP2 this quickly. There is no way that they could have even made their money back yet on R&D, training and marketing. Therefore you can not even for a minute think that they are going to do away with the TP2. They need it. Otherwise the accounting person in charge of their ROI decisions will most certainly be looking for another job. Remember, Big Red is just like any other company in the world, just looking for more Big Green. |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Sounds to me like one of two things occurred. The phone rep was totally clueless or as stated above confused the TP2 with the TP. Before I switched over to Sprint last month and was attempting to get Big Red to match Sprint's calling plans I had three Verizon phone reps & supervisors confuse the TP2 with the TP. One of them even wrote in the notes for my account that I was looking to get the TP even though I clearly stated I was talking about the TP2 and made the rep repeat this several times and had explained the difference between the two phones. ](*,)
Depending where you live and the network coverage available in your geographic area you may wish to simply return the phone to Verizon (considering the fact that you are still within the 30 days) and sign up for the TP2 with Sprint that definitely has the TP2. I live in NYC and have great reception with Sprint and the only dropped calls I have encountered since switching were on calls with friends that use AT&T which is horrible here in Manhattan. :drunken: |

an impossibility? I would definitely think so... |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Look on the bright side, If verizon stops selling the TP2 in 2-3 months and lets say in 6 months you start have problems with the headset, They will give you any phone you want and hopefully they will carry the HTC HD2 by than.

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I wouldn't be surprised if they are just out of stock due to the demand, the price, and the fact that 6.5 was just officially dropped...
*edit* I just read what everyone else has been saying.. and its pretty much just as I expected... |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Your rep is (like many) an idiot and belongs somewhere else saying "Welcome to Walmart!"
They make stupid speculations because they know you'll buy into it. Moving on, they just think they are discontinuing the phone since they hardly have it in stock (when they just had a fresh stock of new ones as of yesterday) but in reality they just cant keep up, and their shipments are coming all the way from Taiwan |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I spoke to a vzw on from one of the call centers ...said they had some in stock ..i asked her to check if it was winmo 6.5 ,,she told me to hold and she came back and said 6.1 ...so who knows ... i guess when i purchase mine on monday I willl see what in the box...will keep u guys posted

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I ordered one last Thursday, received it on Friday. It's still 6.1. The web page actually showed them in stock. I had a xv6900/vougue running a custom rom. Not quite sold on the TP2 yet. I can handle the weight and the keyboard is awesome (especially coming from a soft kb), but the screen doesn't seem as sensitive as the vougue. I'm sure there are fixes out there so I'm not too concerned. It did reboot for no apparent reason last night.

No smart phone I ever bought from vzw has ever come with a screen saver including the TP2. For the vogue (xv6900) I bought some screen savers from smartphone experts which served me well over the past 9-10 months. They came in a pack of 3 and I'm still using the first one. It feels like a hard plastic, but it worked extremely well. ST |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
I was going to buy the Verizon TP2 in January, I wonder if will still be available lol

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
None of the local VZ stores have the TP2. If you ask, they say "it is a special order item, we will ship it to your door free overnight"
They are basically just putting in a telesales order for you. I know a dude who works in one of the stores & he told me they are NEVER going to stock it as they decided it was such a "limited appeal item" & expensive to stock. He's probably right about the limited appeal, nobody I've showed mine to had the slightest clue what it was (or they ask "is that an iphone?"). I found the same thing with my original TP's also........... ~John |

Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Verizon pushes BB devices. They have a huge contract and have spent a tens of millions advertising BB. I own an IT consulting company and send people to purchase WinMO phones at Verizon stores (at least 5 different stores in the metro area). Some of the larger clients have a dedicated Verizon sales reps and in some cases I go to the store to purchase the hardware for the client. I send the client with a SPECIFIC LIST of phones to look at, EVERY TIME. The list is clear with instructions for both the client and the VZW sales rep. My clients ALL use Exchange Server and thus we need WinMo with ActiveSync.
In almost every case, the sales person attempts to talk the client out of the WinMo device in favor of the BB device. In at least 50% of the cases they end up convincing the client that my list is wrong and the BB device will work fine for what they want to do. No joke, this is almost a weekly event! I have had it out witjh store and regional managers regarding the subject. They deny pushing BB and say that they only sell what the client asks for. Furthermore, they ALL have told me that WinMo devices dont' sell well. The joke is that they don't sell well becuase the sales people don't push them. So yeah.. you may never see the TP2 in stores, it is WinMo and not a BB. |

The point was that the VZW reps will go to any length to talk a customer out of a WinMo phone, even when confronted with a LIST of choices and instructions to sell teh client a WinMo phone and the reasons why. It is not a practice isolated to a specific store, but rather a company wide practice. The TP2 is simply going to be a victim of the VZW marketing choices, no matter how good the device is. VZW is concerned about selling BB devices, not WinMo devices. It used to be PALM and LG devices before they signed a huge deal with BB. |
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Watching a football game last night, I saw a verizon commercial and the phone on it was the TP2. Of course they didn't give a name for it but at least it made it into an ad. So maybe they will push this phone once they get enough with 6.5 on them ready to go.
|
Re: Advice needed/ Verizon discontinuing the TP2???
Um Verizon representatives know nothing at all. They do not have prior knowledge of any decision making at Verizon. The day I ordered my phone the rep I spoke to didn't even know they weren't sold in stores. You have to check Verizon everyday for stock. The TP2 was available sparsely throughout the end of sept and october. Even the Imagio and the Ozone Talks were out at times.
Verizon doesn't have a iphone and they are happy that they have the best looking cheapest TP2 and it aint goin nowhere. |
