Can someone please help me? Tethering on Touch Pro 2

I got this phone today, but I don't know what to do, to enable Internet Connection Sharing. I need help, mainly with what do I do with a cab file, and where do I put the cab file on my Touch Pro 2.

This phone will be an uphill battle for you, just return it now.

Though to answer:
Put .cab anywhere on the phone if you are downloading it via the phone or putting it on your microSD card. Browse with file explorer to where you put the .cab file and click it. It will install and should turn your phone off then back on. Go into programs and find what you installed and run it.

To USB tether you must have active sync installed on your computer.

Re: Can someone please help me? Tethering on Touch Pro 2

Did you want to wirelessly tether internet from your phone to your comp (as in making your phone into a wireless router)?
Or did you want to do it via bluetooth/usb?

To wirelessly tether internet use HTC's wifi router cab found here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/26045295...haring_VGA.cab

Just copy the .cab into your phone/storage card and then go to file explorer on your phone and open the .cab

Follow the instructions and after installation, open the program.
It's pretty straight forward from there. Exactly the same as connecting your computer to a wifi network.

Well I wanted it to be like on my Touch Pro from Sprint. where I would connect my USB 2.0 cable, start up Internet Sharing and Hit connect that was it.

no bluetooth.

WiFi Router I don't know what that is, can someone please give me the Idiots Explanation to what that does, because my Laptop already has Intel 5300 N WiFi. It has 3 antennas very strong.

I mostly like EVDO Rev.A Tethering via USB because if I am somewhere that lacks WiFi, I can "tether" at Fast speeds.

thats all.

How come nobody mentions the pop up menu when plugged into usb port. It says "Internet connection" or something to that extent. I think you just hit that and away you go. I didn't need active sync or anything when using it on my diamond.

Is the "HTC's wifi router cab" doing the same thing as the wmwifirouter software?

the TP2 won't have that until we can use custom roms, which won't happen until we get a HSPL.

2 Attachment(s)
The sticky didn't help me at all.

I had to disable CM Guardian with a task manager software first, then installed old Internet fix, and a USB pop up.

Here you go. Found out how to upload them lol.

1. Disable CM Guardian w/ a task manager, reboot.

2. Install Internet sharing fix, reboot.

3. Install HTCUSBTo PC POP Up. reboot.

Hope it works for ya. It did for me.

I don't know about you guys, but I highly prefer the wmwifirouter, or HTCwifirouter. The only advantage of actually hooking up your phone as internet connection with a usb cable, is that it gives you a new i.p. address every single time you re-connect. So that is good if you need to go to websites where you do not want your i.p. address tracked.

can verizon tell if you are using it either tethered or as a wifi router and sharing the connection? is there something that has to be edited in the reg to hide such functionality from them? i have wanted to try this but haven't specifically heard if this is hidden from verizon or not

For Sprint you will need to have PAM (Phone as Modem) from now on. They are really pushing their wireless cards (which are free with the service) and the 15$ monthly charge for 3g (29.95$ 4g in supported areas). A lot of people were able to use PAM until recently they have been auditing them and stopping that acess.

I haven't seen one person who were actually audited and charged.

If the program tethers your computer as a "modem" then yes. If the program tethers your computer as "data" then no.

A simple search would have result unlimited internet sharing cabs for WM6.1 and hes asking what to do with a cab.

He probably registered today and made his first post.

Well... I can gaurantee you that if you are with Sprint and are using it for free, it will not be much longer.
I work for their business support and have had plenty of people call in with this exact issue.
The charge is 15$ a month for the PAM (Phone as a Modem).
Up until about 6 months ago it wasn't an issue and people were getting away with free tethering. But like I said, they have been turning off that if you didn't have the subscription.

I have the pop up option on my TP2, however I just tried it and it said my username and password are incorrect. Maybe after I install stealth tethering it will work.

Edit - So I installed the internet sharing fix .cab posted here and now it works. So were you saying TP2's other than Sprint don't have the correct usb pop-up menu? If so that would kind of suck, but either way, HTC makes it perfectly easy to use phone as modem either via usb connection or via wifi.

Not sure about Wifi one, but USB cabs provided will not show to sprint as PAM. So I guess it's worry free.

Achilles what does the HTCUSBTOPC actually install- do you still have to connect to the internet before hitting connect on ICS- basically I am wondering how your way is any different from the way I got ICS to work on my sprint TP2- see here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...32#post1165932

Verizon can detect your use do to the nature of its data and cdma service. Key Will Be Stay under 4 gig. alot of times this will not send a white flag to audit or fraud. If you go above that usage in high traffic areas they may see a need to hotline your account forcing you to call in and explain what your doing. If your in a low traffic area or even mid size its not putting alot of strain on the network so they may leave you alone for awhile. To check your usagr it will show online under your data usage. if your using it for occasional use like surfing emails and stuff your fine but if your using it for say....online gaming like WoW or streaming netflix movies you will get high usage on top of violating your contract to not use your connection for that stuff.

Our data plans say our connection is unlimited though I didn't read the contract. Guess I should if it specifies certain things to not use the connection for. I thought Verizon supported net neutrality? I remember the day AT&T blocked 4chan.org.

Though I have heard about going over 5GB "may" cause a red flag and that Verizon "may" do something but this "may" be rare?

Many ICS programs share your phones data connection and don't do it as phone as a modem. As far as I understand using your phone as a modem is the only thing they can detect other than pure usage.

It's the pop up screen you get once the phone gets pc connection.

You know Sync, storage, or Internet Connection.

Internet Sharing IS PAM as far as Sprint is concerned. And the data usage is considered unlimited, through your phone. But not sharing the net with another device.
Just think of this. Why would Sprint be pushing their wireless cards, mifi cards and such where there is a monthly charge just to let others use internet sharing with their mobile devices for free?
Regardless of how you do it... it is the same thing. And I know at least Sprint has started to stop internet sharing like that for free. Either you sign up for PAM or get a connection card.

So what part of the internet connection being detected to sprint not show as PAM didn't you get?

Please do educate us on how sprint will tell.

Agreed on the ignoring part. It's easy to tell people what they should or shouldn't be doing but to dismiss someone elses argument just because it smacks yours in the face... well...

thank you. yeah i only planned on using it for browsing and email, which would happen rarely. i just remember verizon telling me when i bought the data plan that if i wanted to connect it to my comp it would be an additional 15 a month on top of the 30, i laughed and said ok. so i guess i got some research to do to make sure i use the right methods as to not be detected. i appreciate your input, definitely makes sense

There is a difference between ignoring something intentionally and not catching it. And I haven't dismissed anything. And I didn't tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do.
I was trying to explain what I have seen. And that is multiple people call in to my location because they had their phones tethered and no longer being able to because Sprint stopped it. Then the customers were told that they could no longer use it without PAM SOC (Service Order Code). How they are able to tell, I am not 100% sure but I know they do. You can take it for what it's worth. I don't think I did it rudely. I was just giving information.

I need to upload an MP3 file to a website once a week, will the above software which claims to run in the unlimited data plan get me audited and charged for PAM?
The location has no internet service so i planned to use my TP2 and a USB cable to transfer the data.
