Re: 6.5 October/November release for TP2!!! Microsoft confirmed

1. I thought Sense UI was beyond TF3D 2.5. Am I mistaken?

2. Still no excuse for it not to have been releasd on launch. We know that HTC has vendor-specific builds ready to go. Remember, October 6th wasn't RTM, it was the intended public availability date. PC makers are already shipping products with Win7 or with the upgrade. Before official launch.

Maybe this is why Microsoft merged the WinMo blog with the Windows Team blog. Because 6.x is EOL and WinMo will be developed as the next version of Windows. It would make sense because Microsoft is going to have to support ARM in desktop Windows to try and fend off Linux dominating the Netbook market, which is inevitably going to start seeing ARM processors take a foothold. x86 just can't compete with ARM due to the inherent design differences between the two; most notably in the power consumption department. Intel is probably kicking themselves for selling off XScale to Marvell. Then they wouldn't have to have any of this Atom business with trying to shoehorn a 7L Duramax into a Prius.

I suspect the war between x86 and ARM isn't quite going to be the knock out you're making it to be. The trend is for more power in phones, not less. The real battle between ARM and Atom is likely 2010 and 2011 when the 32nm SOC Atom is introduced with a 22nm scheduled for 2012 or 20113.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)

Two features I want most are weather with clock and new contacts page that's like the Hero's. Are those part of Touchflo 2.5?

Re: 6.5 October/November release for TP2!!! Microsoft confirmed

I do have it on good rumor that Sprint's first 4G handset will be Android.

Anyone wonder how that's turning out? I have to wonder if Sprint is going to a dual UMTS/LTE (which is WCDMA) and WiMAX network in the future. EvDO Rev.B is the end of the line for CDMA and Qualcomm has abandoned CDMA2000 development due to LTE. Since LTE and 802.16 both use OFDMA with LTE having standards for handing off to CDMA and 802.16, I'd bet on this.

Another discussion for another time though.

Oh, don't get me wrong, ARM has to make up for computational power before it can realistically compete in that segment, which plans are already drawn up for. But x86 has to play a handicapped battle and figure out how to cheaply squeeze all the power usage it possibly can. Sure, going go 32nm and then 22nm will save power for x86. At the same time, it will do the same for ARM.

Right now, I can see only one company having the upper-hand when that war starts; nVidia. Tegra is kicking all sorts of ARM *** and now they are working into x86 with a very formidable architecture. And then they have a new GPGPU architecture as a wildcard.

I wouln't be the least bit surprised to see Intel either buy or introduce an ARM platform. Truth be told, they have an ARM floating around their skunkworks somewhere.

Spoke with a business rep who said the same thing earlier today when I was getting a replacement for my dead pixels, bad touch sensor, squeaky battery cover, and crackly earpiece He made it sound like about two weeks but wouldn't give me anything real concrete.

Re: 6.5 October/November release for TP2!!! Microsoft confirmed

I also just spoke with another rep. who said they were supposed to have 6.5 release this month! Sounded like he knew what he was talking about, but who really knows. He also confirmed what I thought about the lack of supply of the TP2 currently. He and I both believe they will be getting the next wave of TP2s' with 6.5 already installed. I hope he is right. Since I am waiting on new stock to arrive to get mine replaced for bad pixels.(12 of them)

Re: 6.5 October/November release for TP2!!! Microsoft confirmed

Anything new here guys? My Verizon TP2 only sends SMS after a soft reset (if I try to send a SMS an hour or so after reset, it stays in the Outbox until I soft reset). I don't wanna hard reset and then have to install 6.5 again, so I'm gonna wait. It's a huge pain though to keep soft reseting.
