he's 100% right. once you dump a rom off a phone, it's no longer signed and cannot be flashed to a locked phone.

WOw, I can undrestand always wanting to reap the benefits of progress , but what a pain to go thru tricking out your phone and then having to redo it all just for a not so new and improved 6.5 . I was also running 6.5 on my old TP1 and IMHO there was not quite the huge difference I had been hoping for. It seemed a bit more finger friendly but with the TP2, that's not such a big deal anymore, and while I think the Internet Explorer was much better, in reality, explorer has sucked so bad in years past, I rarely even see it anymore anyway. Maybe I missed some other real benefits, but I like the Mobile Shell 3 right now with no customROMS out, and hate the idea of having to redo it all for a "minor " upgrade to 6.5

That's the part that irks me the most about the whole "Oct 6 is Launch Date"/"We don't know when the carrier ROMs will hit" thing. Not knowing if Telus plans an Oct 11 2009 release or August 16, 2010 release for the 6.5 ROM means I'm in limbo here. Quite annoying to spend a bunch of time setting the phone up just right ... the day before that ROM drops.

At this point, I wish the carriers would say SOMETHING (other than Sprint). They were all so quick to point out these phones would get upgrades to 6.5 when we were in the stores, weren't they!

Are you sure those couple phones are running 6.5? When you click on the Sprint TP2, it takes you to an overview of the phone and it lists 6.1 as the OS (as well as the T-Mobile TP2 that shows in the list of phones that appears on the left).

Edit: Also, when you hover over the Imagio or Pure, it has a little "Windows Mobile 6.5" logo next to the Learn More button. No such logo when you hover over the Sprint TP2.

yeah sprint touch pro 2 isn't listed as 6.5, cause it didn't launch with it.
Also HTC has to build the ROM and then give it to Sprint for testing, then Sprint releases it.
Microsoft isn't at fault.

Touch Pro 2 is listed as an expected 6.5 updated phone, with no release date on Microsoft's site.

Why the hell would Sprint release TP2 in the stores on the Oct 20th with 6.5 on them but not simultaneously release the updater for the 6.1 versions. At the very least the stores should be able to flash the phones to 6.5 by the technician in-house. If it's the same build for both phones would could possible be left to "test", if it's good enough to be on phones sold in the stores, it should be good enough to update manually by the end users.

My guess is that if/when the phones hit the stores they'll have 6.1 on them, Sprint can't possible be THAT incompetent to not release these at the same time.

PS. Please Sprint don't prove me wrong!

Sprint may have issues doing an OTA ROM update. We'll probably be told to check their website, powerdeck or something...then get directed to HTC, US website...and download the RUU there. Then we'll just be told to follow the instructions and flash the ROM like it was from one of the chefs here.

I was an Instink early adopter...and paid dearly in time and heartache with Sprint. Promised firmware updates were few and far between after the launch.

I'm putting my money on the unlocker being ready before we see the official ROM upgrade

I was told that Sprint won't have the Touch Pro 2 in the retail stores until January 1st. Seems it matches when Sprint releases 6.5
