Should I keep my Tp2 or...

...or take it back and wait for vzw to release an android phone (In a few weeks). See I love my TP2 in almost every way, it has a kick a** keyboard and a very nice screen. But... lets face it windows mobile is no iphone OS (which Iv played with alot and like mostly) or android (never played with it but I will for sure when my buddy gets his hero this weekend). And winmo 6.5 is really nothing more then some lipstick slapped on a pig, I only really want 6.5 for the new version of tf3d the rest is just gravy.

So to the point of my post, Im conflicted about what I should do stay with what I have or take it back and wait for something else. I know its not always greener on the other side and like I said I really like this phone. I know once the hspl is released itll improve things abit (and ill be able to get that new tf3d version). I know with my old ph the mogul custom roms breathed life into it a number of times but to be honist im kinda got tired after a while of flashing rom after rom to right to find the "right" one and im ready for something that just "works" without need/wanting to flash a new rom every week/month.

Sorry for the rambling :drunken: but I would love yalls thoughts.

youre starting to sound like p-slim

to the op i don't agree with you. like the subzero stated, you say it like its a bad thing. if you like the iphone os then you should go buy a iphone. correct winmo is no iphone os nor would i want it to be. Its hard for us to answer your question because we like our os and are proud to have it.

Re: Should I keep my Tp2 or...

For me it depends on needs...

For business:
WifiRouter
Push e-mail
Voicemail -comes through as wav attachment in e-mail
keyboard (not touch-screen)

So.. i can't be productive with an iPhone or Android at this point. For me the choice is simple. Although i still would stick with the TP2 because i hate typing on the touch-screen even if i could do all those things on an iPhone or Android.

get rid of your tp2... you obviously don't appreciate it or what winmo has to offer.

If interface is all you need there are plenty of interfaces you can get..anythign from iPhone to android look a likes...I think you can even run a wm6.5 interface in wm6.1...

Questions is...why did you buy this phone in the first place? what were you expecting from it?

So you know..its not like iPhone just works..it just restricts you from doing anything that won't work...its like saying..you are free to pick anything as long as its one of these 2 options.

Hmm..
Iphone Eh!!!
How about that i want a phone that doesnt make me look like a 5 yr old who wants a phone for the "games"
Games-get a PS3 portable

TP2- Main plus A keyboard, which rules, i would never ever go back to a software keyboard

I am sure that the TP2 does more, i cant complain about exchange sync, Iphone ( i am an IT admin), dont even start with the calendar sync issues..

ok wow I think I hit a nerv... I dont mind windows mobile I love the fact that it can do many things the iphone cant multi tasking, dont need to ask apple what apps I can install etc. I think winmo is a wonderfull os for what it is. Iphone is NOT an option for me right now I hate hate hate att and vzw in my area is top noch. I chose my network 1st not my phone... I was just trying to get some pro/cons vs what else is out there or in the pipeline. Did not want to rile up any feathers...

I would never trade my Touch Pro 2 for an Iphone or an Android phone. I have played with the Android OS and you can't customize it like you can with the Windows Mobile OS.

Are you f'in kidding me? It's Linux! You can do whatever you want to the phone! You can rig it to run LAMP if you so desire. It's the most versatile OS for phones there ever has been. Why? Because it is open-source.

And apps? TONS. And they are cheap or free.

note to self dont talk about the iphone on a windows mobile forum... anywho I agree in the end the TP2 prob can do more and I more than likely would not be happy with a iphone anyways (my buddy has one and I hear him complain about att all the time).

at the point about games, why not? why cant I have a phone that can play some good games that also can txt on easy has a sweet screen and serf the web with to boot?

Because if you had the perfect phone, why buy a new one? there will always be some sort of "Flaw" that will keep it away from being perfect so that you buy a next phone lol..its all part of the marketing plan...

Its like I always wonder..why can't they include 8gb-16gb ROM on the phones and always starve su with 512mb...sure there is a microsd card..but why not? it will be like 20$ extra..but to them its 20bucks in the pocket. They will always give you the bare minimum to keep you hooked.

if you're an adult, it doesn't matter what anybody in this thread thinks. research the phones/os that you're interest in, and make a conscious decision. i'm pretty sure you already knew what the outcome of this thread would be before you started it.

Ya know your 100% right, Im just having a little buyers remorse I guess. When I bought my TP2 I didint know vzw was going to have a android phone any time soon and with the recent news about HTC android phone with sense UI coming "within a few weeks" from diff news blogs/sites (found a link: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/1...torola-sholes/) im starting to rethink keeping the TP2 and taking a look at this new "hero" like phone. I wont make any dissensions till I get to play with a hero though.

I must say though I do think the TP2 is a MUCH sexier phone then the sprint hero or that htc phone in the engadget link. Not like that really matters in the end though, I dont buy a phone just on "looks" or else id never have bought my old baby vx6800 (I put that phone through hell ).

Re: Should I keep my Tp2 or...

Your post is VERY closed minded

1. You hate Windows Mobile. Why? What features do you like? What features do you not like? Give details! There are a lot of cabs and other modifications here that can probably solve your troubles.

2. You're right, totally right. Windows Mobile is not an Iphone. Mostly because an Iphone is an unproductive piece of dung. Windows Mobile is multi-tasking and multi-purpose software. Theres no other mobile OS that lets you slipshod your way through certain methods by running several applications at once. It supports tons of software, has a wide array of options, and STOP calling Microsoft's UI stinky. It was the first one on the block and hasn't changed because thats the business design and style. If you don't like it, I'm pretty sure you shouldnt blame Microsoft for making their UI look like their intended customers

3. The Verizon TP2 doesnt run 6.5, it runs 6.1. you're looking at TF3D most likely, since little of old WinMo 6.1 is visible on the TP2

4. Don't read into the idiots of CNET, Leo laporte, and the etc. who all bash Windows Mobile. The only reason they are here is because of Windows Mobile. Palm got started, windows mobile ate it ALIVE because it was years ahead of their 16 bit screen graphics. It gave the power everyone wanted. Windows CE is the basis today for millions of computers, systems, and most importantly, Windows Mobile. Android, you love it more than the windows mobile but havnt even tried it? It's linux! Go boot up Debian and tell me if you miss your games.

5. Lastly, Don't do this "OS is Better" because this and that what-not. Android is a dev. OS, like Google's idea of linux for the PPC. Iphone OS is just tits and *** ( seriously, all it can do is run 1 app at a time. No stylus, games, no real dev apps that are FREE. WHAT A WASTE!) If you want to run around showing your IPhone in the face of people, on a garbage carrier and with a garbage OS. Go right ahead, but if that Iphone comes in my face i'll assure you my fist will break the glass.

Firstly I dont hate windows mobile, in fact id go as far to say I even like it. Its just that IMO does not have the best UI for a large touch screen phone. Anything in the OS UI that requires me to us the tip of my finger nail or a styles to hit is bad, thats just my opinion.

Again who is being closed minded?? id re-read your #5 iv used Android on a G1 (not the sense UI) although IMO its UI is not perfect either but its browser was very nice and to me a good browser is kinda important. iv also played with a few pres and although web os is really nice the pre's hardware itself is total crap (build quality wise).

And I have to ask with all your hate of the iphone have you ever used one? the UI is pretty nice and the media player is better then ANYTHING iv seen for windows mobile. If you know of a better media player (video and audio) please let me know. Oh yeah dont forget about safari which except for no flash is (again) IMO better then opera mobile.

Ill agree to this, then again for me a phone is a play thing that lets me do many things that are unproductive. Txt/surfing the web/messing with Facebook etc. If I wanted a phone to be productive I would have gotten a blackberry :P

I agree, and ive had an iphone in the past. its a toy...if you like it so much better in comparison to WM then go get an iphone. As far as android goes ive only played with them for short periods of time but really was not impressed and the fact now that google is sending out C&D's on cooked roms is enough in itself to make me stick with WM

Just a quick question. If you wanted a "toy" why did you go out and buy a BUSINESS phone? You would be better off with Palm os or Samsung GUI. The TOUCH PRO and TOUCH PRO 2 are windows PROFESSIONAL phones, and right now the TP2 is the FLAGSHIP of MS mobile right now. Thats like saying I want to go and get a BENTLEY to go 4 wheeling with. You need to get a jeep, lol.

Re: Should I keep my Tp2 or...

this is true, though i did not get my TP2 for business at all. i know the nature of the beast and what i was getting into with WM but the hardware really appealed to me and i like WM for a casual phone even...maybe its because of the selection of 3rd party software but there is alot you can do with it. If i want to browse the web NICELY i can...if i want to not only play music but stream it and not only stream a channel but stream a specific song i want to hear i can. hell even if i want to remote into my home computer and check my torrents or add more i can do that aswell..the TP2 performs well no matter what you seek in it, IMHO

My Friend you're in a lose/lose situation on the WM board. you ask a faily simple question needing constructive inputs, instead you obviously got some folks offended. I think most of these guy truly wish they had an iphone. I dont really understand why some people post with nothing positive to provide rather then attack each other on what I think suppose to be a forum for civil disscussion. as a matter of fact I am also 100% positive some with fire back at me attacking my spelling or gramma. anyways.

I have both the Touch pro2 and an Iphone 3gs.
this what i like about the Iphone.
1. large screen. very responsive with zero lag when surfing the web.
2. quick and simple installation of sofeware through itunes. or the apps store.
3. ample storage space.
4. easy transfer of movies.
5. connect the phone to my car cable and watch my movies without any cab install or registry edit.
6. large on screen keyboard with very nice auto correct, almost error free.
7. thin enough for any pocket.
9. price 299.99 for 32gs and 32gig storage.

what I dont like about the iphone.
1. higher cost for ATT data plan.
2. ..........
3. ..........

what I like about the TP2

1. large screen
2. large keyboard
3. better then tp1
3. able to consistently write roms and change themes.
4. ......

what I dont like?

1. slight delay as you're dialing phone numbers
2. slightly bulky then the iphone.
3. you have to buy additional storage.
4. web surfing too slow for me when scroling.
5. cost more then iphone or any other phone out there.

so which phone do you think I like? I will tell you this, like you I consider carrier and price plan over phone. so most likely I will try out the HTC hero for a possible replacement for the TP2 and iphone. I still own and window mobile phone, so please do not ban me. lol

so I guess if you have the time to write roms weekly/monthly and reinstall your software and settings, spend time editing, tweeking registry to make the phone just right for you. the TP2 is for you. I truly enjoy custom roms, but there are times I just want to me a call and surf the net effortlessly.

Re: Should I keep my Tp2 or...

One thing that's always affected my choice of anything is knowing that if a product is targeted at businesses it's going to have better reliability and/or build quality than something that is not. It's why I bought a Thinkpad instead of an XPS, it's why my last Blackberry (a Curve 8300) had an unrepairable trackball issue, and it's why I got the TP2 instead of the Pre. Since the Pearl, Blackberry's been putting out phones to appeal to the masses, and their reliability has dropped.

Businesses make large orders. If 30% of a line of laptops targeted to gamers have issues, the gamers deal with it through the warranty and it's not critical that they lose their gaming machines for a week or so. If the same thing happened to a line of laptops targeted to businesses, it would result in a huge productivity loss to the businesses and the subsequent decision to buy from a different manufacturer in the future.

If I'm getting a computer or phone and I can't choose each individual component and put it together myself like I can with a home PC, I will always go with something targeted more to business users and businesses. I've been burned by reliability issues almost every time I haven't (only counterexample is an LG slider feature-phone that put up with stuff that would have destroyed most phones and lasted 4 years besides...had it for 2.5 years before retiring it, then it came out of retirement a bit over a year later when my Blackberry decided it didn't like its trackball or any replacement I tried).

@ALL Just to be clear to everyone what I meant in my OP is not that I hate WM (I dont) but I dont really like its UI and only compared it to the iphone as a mobile UI done right. Love or hate the iphone UI is IMHO better then WM. I love the fact that you can change just about anything with WM and basically do anything you want. Plus the iphone is not even a option for me as I REFUSE to switch to ATT its not gonna happen (They suck in my area network wise). So please stop telling me "then go get a iphone if you like it so much" because even if I wanted to I cant/wont.

This is it this is exactly what I mean I want lol. I want to be able to do what ever I want to do.

So please stop telling me "then go get a iphone if you like it so much" because even if I wanted to I cant/wont.

..you can make a WM look like an iphone...jailbreak hack do whatever you want to an iphone and its not gonna look or function like a WM device

not to try and make anything worse, but spec wise and feature wise, my TP kills an iphone, TP2 is like the Lexus of toyota, still a toyota underneath all the new bodywork, but much more refined.
