Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

Why do any of you assume that HTC and the carriers are actually releasing the updates for all of their 6.5-capable phones TODAY? Just because the OS is "available" and just because carriers are announcing new 6.5 devices doesn't actually mean their existing devices will immediately get the updates.

It'll be released when it's released, now relax... Goooooosefraba!

Updating your phone to Windows Mobile 6.5

Have you heard about some exciting new features in Windows Mobile 6.5 that you’d like to try (like enhanced web browsing and improved messaging)? Have you wondered if you can update your older Windows Mobile phone to Windows Mobile 6.5? The answer depends on the model of your phone and conditions put in place by your mobile operator (also known as your carrier).

Windows phone update guide

To find out if your phone can be updated, first you need to know which version of Windows Mobile is installed on it. For help figuring this out, see Identify your Windows phone.

If you have a Windows Mobile 5.0 phone, you can’t update to version 6.5.

If you have a Windows Mobile 6.0 phone, you can’t update to version 6.5.

http://www.microsoft.com/library/med...e_Icon_6-1.pngYes, there may be an update for some phones. Our partners are providing updates to some version 6.1 phones.

Q. Can I upgrade my device to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it is released?
More information will be provided on whether or not the device can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 on the device support page after Windows Mobile 6.5 has been released.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

Microsoft already said they were doing a globally coordinated launch, so to all the people doubting it will be released today, it most likely will; especially since Sprint said they would have a device with 6.5 on launch day and they have no phone launches known this week. Since their most 6.5 worthy phone is the TP2, even with the Windows button, it is probably going to get it today.

Wow, some people are pretty dense... like others have said, jsut because that is the "Release date" does not mean that your CARRIER will have an update available.

And yet Microsoft has repeatedly named specific carriers that will have WM 6.5 phones on Oct 6 for their coordinated launch.

I just checked the Sprint site to see if there was a software update for the TP2 and saw that there was a ROM update which got me really excited... but when clicking on the link it takes me to the HTC site to download an update to the original TP ROM that came out on 09/25/09. :angry7:

No the link from Sprint is to an update for the original Touch PRO. Thus, my dissapointed smiley. I will do it again. :angry7:

Yeah I realized that just now... stupid *** sprint. It even says touch pro 2 on their site.

ca2l3vin 10-06-2009 03:37 AM

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

not sure about sprint but in reality the first touch pro2 with 6.5 will probably be ATT on the 10th (with its tilt 2 title) Verizon and Sprint will follow suite to keep competition going soon enough. As for 6.5 as some already know HTC Imagio is out officially with 6.5 at the ready for Verizon and the HTC Diamond2 from ATT(named Pure) was selling even before today (thanks to some people at ATT for jumping the gun). It shouldnt be THAT long of a wait...even still I wouldnt bank on it being today...probably in a week or less for sprint (to have some type of 6.5 out there) and a few weeks for Verizon (thanks to the Crazy internal testing regiment which takes awhile before any update is approved)

Give it time people. IF it does release today then celebrate but I wouldn't get your hopes up about it being today since its still a World wide release maybe 1 to 2 devices at a time per carrier for todays launch with the rest following.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

I'm hoping on a magical Windows Update that will auto update to wm6.5..a guy can dream can't he?

That said I think they already do have the ROMS for it, but whether they release it or not is another question.

And, but, so, therefore?! If you're going to read and watch the news, make a point of reading and watching ALL of it. Yes, carriers are going to be announcing NEW PHONES (like the Leo and others) that will have 6.5 from the word GO, but nobody has targeted release dates for ROM updates. Yet... and until you have a link from HTC or Microsoft to contradict me...

\\:D/ I'm right, you're wrong, so let's just sing a happy song and move along! \\:D/

*giggle* I'm going to be especially amused when the same group of people with expectations of it being released today are reposting new threads complaining that we were lied to.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

It amazes me how many people assume that just because today is the official release date for WM6.5 that the carriers would also have FW upgrades available on the same date. IMHO we have to sit tight and if their past record holds true Sprint will release their FW upgrade to WM 6.5 before Big Red and T Mobile. In fact if I recall correctly on the Touch the FW upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 was available on Sprint about 2 months before Verizon.

When do the Sprint TP2s come out in stores? Aren't they supposed to be loaded with 6.5?

I'm on the phone with Verizon tech support FWIW.

I doubt they'll give me any good info on the TP2, but I'll post if they do.

EDIT: No info, person on phone thinks store will know more...somehow I doubt it.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

I guess if it gives people something to do then they might as well but its pretty much completely pointless to expect this anytime soon. This is a MARKETING event solely for effect and to "officially" debut a base product, Windows Phone OS. There are a whole lotta links in the chain before this gets to the handset since the manufacturers make cutomizations, then the carriers each have differing requirements and restrictions. Dont hold your breath seeing this anytime soon as an upgrade, just an OEM.

And tech support isnt gonna have anything reliable to say, its not as if they have high-level meetings every day to stay up to date on the latest "new thing", theyre just CS reps there to troubleshoot a limited array of equipment/handsets and the very specific problems and solutions most common to them. I'll bet anybody 5 bucks though that some tech rep will say somethingorother and the result will be eleventyfour posts here with OMG!!1!111! VEROZON TOTALLY HAS A 6.5 UPDATE, or similar.
