Preparing Phone for the HSPL

With the promise of custom ROMs just around the corner, this would be a good time to learn how to backup and restore contacts, email settings, and so on.

Or, at least I would like to learn. Any advice? What about associating pictures with contacts? Is there some must-have software that handles all of this?

Re: Preparing Phone for the HSPL

as far as contacts and emails, if you have Outlook set up on your computer, you can set activesync to backup both of those with ease. its nice because it syncs back and forth no matter if you change the info on your phone or computer. it will also store your contacts' photos as well.

Microsoft MyPhone is probably another good way to do this I assume.

Re: Preparing Phone for the HSPL

Here is what I do. I PPCPimBackup, it backs up everything important as far as contacts, text messages, speed dial, calender, etc. I pretty much store everything else on my SD card. Then after a flash I use Sashimi to restore certain stuff, like mail account setting and some cab installs, then restore the PIM backup and good to go.

You can search for Sashimi and PPCPimBackup, it's all over these forums.

One easy suggestion for contacts, calendar is Microsoft My Phone. Does not include settings, but does take care of basic information on the phone that can easily be restored once the ROM is loaded.

Sprite backup is another commercial option.

I would have to agree with you. Sprite backup is the only program I have tried, it works so good I have not had to try any other programs. I have not had any issue with it and I have been using it for the past year.

Re: Preparing Phone for the HSPL

I'm curious. i figured how to put my contacts onto the sim card. Couldnt you in case of having to hard reset, and you're not near your outlook, you could reinstall your contacts from the sim card?
