Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I ordered this front/back "shield" for my TP2 before I even had the phone. I picked up the phone last night and applied it exactly as instructed. Now it looks like ***. There are alot of air bubbles that I can't get out. Has anyone else had this problem? Do they all eventually work their way out in 2-3 days as the instructions claim?

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

they're supposed to air out within a day... if not, that means you did a poor job applying it. if done correctly, you won't have any air bubbles. it's kinda hard to put on in my opinion. they have zagg stations in malls if you want one of their employees to do it for you...

i personally don't like these protectors because they don't fit right for the tp/tp2... a couple weeks and the smaller pieces and corners start to peel because of the curvature of the device. maybe they changed the design tho? before they had these dumb flaps at each corner.

yes thats how its suppose to be, if you completely tried pushing them out, then your good because thats just wet spots from the applicant you use, which dries out like said within 2-3 days, if not try using a air dryer to dry it out, but dont hold it to long next to your screen.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

Not bashing here, but with a big ole flat screen like the TP2, you shouldn't have any bubbles at all when done. Spray plenty of water, I mean solution, and you will be good to go. Honestly can't say if the bubbles will be gone in a few days, I haven't had any that bad!

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

ya, i probably applied too much solution. i'm sure there aren't any Zagg stations around these parts....i may try to find a hair dryer or some ****.
or i'll just pull them off and go without protection...wouldn't be the first time..hehe

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

After applying a screen protector and letting it sit for 2 hours, would it be beneficial and speedier to let your phone sit in rice for 12 hours to get out the wet spots underneith the protector faster? I have gone through many screen protectors so far with my TP2 because I can't stand the screen being anything but crystal clear.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

i don't think u can put too much solution... i used bodyguardz before, which is basically the same thing but a lot cheaper... still has solution and the strong material that they say is from helicopter blades.

anyway, in the instructions, it says not to be shy with the solution and that u can never apply too much. i applied a lot and didnt have bubbles after a day. it helps with fitting it on easily because it glides of the screen easier when applying.

I love the Ghost Armor I have on mine. You can't even tell there is anything on the screen.

I just received mine in the mail. Hopefully mine goes on well... I have never tried Zagg before.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I put on the invisible shield and honestly, attempted to follow their instructions... I have a crap load of bubbles with their solution they gave me and I still cant get them out. The instructions said to lightly spray, but the minute I put it on the screen, I couldnt even slide it around. Its still there after 4 days.

I then had another TP2 shield on my girlfriends phone and followed the screen protector sticky on the forum... I had by far better results.

a zagg shield is one of the best $25 i have ever spent
when puting these on you must take your TIME.if it has bubbles in it take it back off withen 5mins and try agian. make sure you have clean room like area, not on a sheet or floor. kitchen table freshly wiped down. stat applying from bottom to top and take TIME, it should not take you less than 15 mins. when applied right it will not peel or have bubbles. i had one on my diamond for 8 months without a peel or scratch. pic was taken two weeks ago when i sold it

That's the truth! I had the Zagg with no bubbles or peels for a year. I put the Zagg on my TP2 ... it took twice, but you can't tell I have a screen protector on now. You just have to take your time and not be scared to pull it up and try again.

looks like u have some sort of casing around the edges tho. those areas do peel and that is a problem for people who want full body. it works great for the back and front panels on the diamond, but that's completely different than how it works on the tp1 and probably for the tp2. why? because the diamond has flat corners and no slideout keyboard. the tp1 and tp2 have rounded corners. not sure how it is for tp2 kits, but for tp1 they cut slits for the corners on the back, making them flaps, and they would start peeling after a couple weeks due to regular use. i ended up pulling the back off because of that. the side started peeling on both my tp1 and diamond.. worse on my tp because it has thinner pieces due to the keyboard. unless they fixed the flap method of applying the protector to the back, id just get the screen part...

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

dude, i have one on my tp and it was the best investment i could have made. i cant stand big bulky cases but im also a perfectionist so i hate scratches on my equipment. this was the perfect solution for me. you must not have applied it right cuz mine is almost flawless. i find that you should spray the "solution" librally. its really just water so if u run out just fill it up with water. there was a few bubbles under mine on the screen but after about a week they were gone. and as far as scratches go, i have yet to be able to scratch the skin in any way that could be equated to "daily" use. i literally took keys to my phone and its still unscratched! so all in all i think this is the best thing you could possibly get for your phone. as for peeling, i have yet to experience that. ive had the invisable shield on my tp for 2 months now and its still the same as when i put it on

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I do have peeling on the sides of my TP1 and the flaps on the curves on the sides screen is good tho. When I get my TP2 I will only do the screen.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I just installed (applied?) an invisible shield on my tp2 (ordered it right after they rlsd the vzw version). I spent a good 30 min trying to put it on and took me 4 tries before I was happy with it. In the end though I have NO air bubbles and I cant even tell its on unless I look for it. My only advice I can give on how to put it on is not to just slap it on there and then start squeegeeing, you need to pick a end of the phone (I used the bottom with the 4 bottons) and put the end of the shield down and slowly lay it down while useing the squeegee to push the air bubbles out.

edit: Also I found it helpful to keep my finger tips wet from the spray at all times so the shield would not stick to my fingers.

this is probably the best advice....because in honesty, i did slap it on there and start squeegeeing...and it looked horrible for a couple days.
i just removed them all. i'm paying 7 bucks a month for total equipment protection, if it gets too messed up...i'll put in for another.

Once the invisible shield is on and dried can it be taken off and reapplied?

No, not normally. Especially with screen protectors with flaps (or in Zagg's case, it might be okay since the one that covers the screen doesn't cover the sides).

A replacement is $5 IIRC. PhantomSkinz comes with 2 :)

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I know Zagg and Bestskinsever offer unbeatable protection, and I like them on the back and sides of my device.

BUT... Iv yet to find a "Rubbery" screen protector that dosent diminish the look of the screen, they all have kind of an "orange peel" look to them, even when installed perfectly. Not to mention the slightly "sticky" feel of them drives me nuts.
The hard plastic screen protectors "Look" the best but they scratch quickly and start looking bad.
So its kind of a toss up for me, look good but replace often, OR, look not as good and never have to replace.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I have the Zagg on my TP2. Only did the screen, didn't really feel the whole phone was needed. I love it on the screen. Definitely agree that you need to take your time and use the solution liberally. Now that I have had the screen for little over a week, I am thinking that I kind of wish I would have done the whole phone. The Zagg gets a +1 in my book.
Speed...

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

anyone get zagg or similar product for the SPRINT tp2 yet? If so, did they use flaps to cover the curved corners of the back? like are there slits so u can fold them evenly next to eachother or did they figure out how ti keep it together like it is for the iphone.

some high resolution pics would be nice, if anyone has the time

There is another zagg thread in the tp2 forum with pics on last couple of pages. I think it's the zagg backordered thread.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I just installed mine last night and I absolutely hate it. I followed the instructions to the letter, watched the installation videos, and it looks like crap :( The $2 screen protection kit I bought from WalMart looked and felt much better than this. Once it touched the LCD, I was not able to move it around, it stuck like superglue, so that only made things worse.

On top of that, it looks like the spray triggered my water damage sticker, eventho the inside never got wet (only thing I can think of is that I put my finger on it when taking it apart to do the back.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I had a couple Zagg kits for my TP's, they work fine on the body but I absolutely hated that product on the screen & would never use it again.

I use the Boxwave or Brando stuff on my screens now, night & day better than the Zagg cr@p.

thanks for the pics! but that pic of the back just convinced me not to try it... it's not their fault because sprint put weird holes in the back, but it just doesn't look right back there. the top part looks like it's just a thin piece? that's definitely gonna peel...

thanks again

I requested my money back, since they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee (they were very nice about it).

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

Just installed my Zagg. I agree with everyone who says to apply the solution liberally. The adhesive is sticky icky icky. I applied the screen protector first, with several bubbles which seem to be evening out nicely. The back piece was actually easier to apply than the front. I sprayed a bunch of solution on the protector, and even lightly misted the back of the phone. The moisture sensor was covered during this process.

I am disappointed in the sticky texture of the screen protector. It makes dragging my finger across the screen very difficult. I also noticed that more pressure is required when operating the touch screen.

Overall, very pleased with the back piece. I might be replacing the screen protector soon.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I have the full body Zagg. Applied it two nights ago (liberal application solution, etc.) and thus far it actually exceeds my expectations. Smooth, clean and - counter to what some others have said - I don't find it to offer much resistance/sticking when using my finger or stylus for screen navigation.

ppc_dude 10-16-2009 09:53 AM

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I'm happy I requested my money back, they didn't give me a hard time, and actually tried to help me out, even offering to send another one. I still have the cheap one from WalMart installed (you have to size/cut it yourself), but it's as smooth as glass, and while the protector does have scratches, it works great. I'll probably replace it every 3-4 months or so.

It's just a phone, you can't keep it in perfect shape.

I never liked how tacky it was on my screen, but it made the rest of my phone super grippable.

Check in your local mall and see if they have a stand there. There's one here in Phoenix at PV Mall. I order my stuff online and take it into them. They apply it perfectly and it lasts forever. My iPod touch full body looks amazing compared to what it would if I applied it.

You did not apply it correctly if you have bubbles.

It's not that easy to apply it correctly, that's the problem.

I'm content with how the body of the phone is protected. My chick dropped it last night on tile and nothing happened to it lol. I have ordered extra screen protectors only because I do not like how sticky it is.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I used to get the zagg before but not anymore, its so tacky and after awhile you get the yellowish color which make the phone look ugly, I suggest bodyguardz is the best and you get 2 in one pack, I bought it for $17.00 with the discount. when you apply it dont use the solution they give you, empty it and fill it with water and 1 or 2 drops of dishwasher soap, shake it and you're good to go, dont apply it on the screen, only in the protector, spray plenty of it, shake it and apply it. you will be able to move it around as much as u like till you get it to the right place, gently remove any excess water inside and leave it set for like 5 min dont even try to remove any bubbles because there will be no bubbles with this method, then move to the next one. In a couple of days you will have a spanking shiny screen like nothing on it.
I brought my touch pro to sprint for replacement and the rep was very impressed in how the protector is applied in front, back and sides, you wont even tell.

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

I was a former Zagg customer. I used zagg on 3 previous phones. It does turn yellow after couple months and it does have a tacky feel. I didn't mind the tacky feel. I tried phantom skin on my tp2 and it is far better than zagg. No tacky feel and no corners peeling up turning yellow.

amw1972 10-18-2009 10:25 AM

Re: Zagg Invisible Shield...sucks?

funny how everyone is having this yellowing on their ZAGG. I have used Zagg on my instinct(s), Mogul, Touch Pro, custom fitted ZAGG on my wife's Samsung Rant. NONE of them yellowed on me.

I do concur that over time the ZAGG Invisibleshield gets tacky and it actually picks up dust...but it does what it claims...so I'm satisfied.
