Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

Looking for the latest and greatest GPS Navigation for the TP2 and its large screen.

Copilot 8 seems nice, what do you all recommend?

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

i believe there was a thread on XDA about this.

I used to use TomTom on my Mogul and I loved it. I am using Garmin right now, and I am not too thrilled with it (very slow, and I am looking for text to speech). I am going to try out iGo8 when I get a chance.

copilot 8 does sound promising though.

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

I currently have 3 of them on my SD Card - Garmin Mobile XT, TomTom and iGo 8 and I would say iGo 8 is definitely the best in terms of maps, beautiful 3d interface, POI database and navigation. Working great on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. Garmin does its job well. But, its interface is nowhere as nice as iGo 8. TomTom is my least favorite out of the 3.

Correct me if I am wrong but iGo8 and Nav N Go are the same product right?

The products look very similar.

Nav N Go is the company that makes iGO.

I've got iGo8 and Garmin installed, as well as the other usual suspects (Bing and Google Maps). I go has the best interface and POI although it's sometimes tough to use. I like the Garmin because it looks like my Garmin in the car but it's a little slow. I'm definitely looking forward to trying Copilot 8.

Copilot site says its only $35.
I find that really really cheap.

I use Igo8 and love it. I have used Garmin, VZ navigator and TomTom. Igo8 is the only program that has almost no lag as you are moving. It's almost a fluid movement and all data and directions are spot on. It's also the only nav program that shows the main entrance to my community, as all other make you go in through the back entrance because the front one does not exist on other maps. It's the only one I will use.

I've been using IGo since 2005, there's no match for it's response time or graphics. As we all here in this forum do the IGo has many extras meaning u may change the skin to a variaty available online, plus TTS, 3d graphics and even replace the borring arrow by your car!

I love the software and only found 3 cons so far: 1) either u hack it or your stuck to the memory card it comes in (I'm stuck!); 2) no traffic information and 3) No free updates on maps or anything, u have to pay for all new stuff from Nav n Go!

My 2 cents! :-)

GarminXT... I don't have any of the others and its simply because I have been happy with Garmin to date (don't want to spend yet another $100 bucks.) Garmin is simple, the interface is not bad, and I can easily play music and nav at the same time without having troubles....

When I go to IGO8's website, there is nothing about a Windows Mobile version with US/NA maps. My searching so far indicates that this is sold as "OnCourse Navigator" - is this correct, or is there some way to get IGO8 directly, with US/NA maps?

When I looked at OnCourse Navigator's website, it indicates that the application must be used on the SD card you buy from them. I just ordered a 16gb SD card for my VZW HTC TP2, and the biggest OCN has is 8gb. No way I'm going to have to switch cards just for GPS. Is there a way to work around this?

If IGO8 ends up being a non-started for the above reasons, I'm tempted by CoPilot Live 8. The description sounds quite good. But I just contacted them, and there is no trial version, so I'd be risking $35 to try it. Not a huge amount, but still...

Thanks!

I have used GarminXT, IGO & CoPilot.

I'm not sure about IGO, but you can easily "crack" Garmin to run from any mem card (I have it running from a 16 gig Sandisk). Once it is activated, that card is good to go from then on. You can reflash the phone, pull the card out & use it in another phone etc etc etc to your hearts content & it will keep on working with no hassle.

CoPilot on the other hand has the most irritating annoying activation setup I have ever used (& my copy is a legally purchased copy). Because of this, I would highly advise people NOT to buy this software. It checks your activation online every single time you start it & if you make even the tiniest change in the system it will come up as unactivated. The POS almost NEVER worked when I needed it to, I must have activated it 30 times. It got so aggravating I finally gave up on it & stayed with GarminXT & don't even install CoPilot anymore.....

The really annoying thing is, you are supposed to go through this whole procedure to deactivate it before you make any changes to your phone & then reactivate it again when you're done. Of course when you decide to flash to a new ROM, you have totally forgotten about this (or never knew it in the first place) so after the flash it refuses to reactivate the next time you attempt to run it (it thinks it's already activated on another system). Now, you're stuck emailing there tech support to have them manually fix the problem (& they get real snotty about it sometimes). At one point, they actually told me "if this happens again, you're out of luck -we won't activate it again" This after I paid $80 for the program.........

I can confirm that its just as easy with IGO. I have it in my existing SD card along with pics, music, documents, files, etc. I can move the card from Touch Pro to Touch Pro 2, etc and iGO 8 runs perfectly.

iGO can do traffic info if you have TMC receiver and, apparently, it can somehow get it from MSN Direct as well...

I installed tomtom navigator 7 since i'm familiar with the tom tom interface (i have a separate tomtom gps), BUT the tomtom 7 on pro 2 is VERY VERY VERY slow ....

I wonder if there is a way to enhance the speed of screen refreshing or whatever ?????

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

Appreciate the comments and suggestions. Disappointing to hear how difficult CoPilot Live is with respect to activation. I used TomTom Navigator 5 on my Palm TX, and while I didn't have much difficulty with activation, many were having all kinds of problems.

As a general rule, I prefer to pay the requested price, and not get a 'cracked' version to avoid this, but have no problem breaking it free from SD card or other limitations. Exactly what would I need to do if I purchase one of these, and want to eliminate any problems with Activation, using it on a different SD card, etc.?

I've been using Ostia Pharos for a few years but as it was designed for WM2002/3 it's beginning to show it's age, so I'm looking into trying something new. I'm gonna check out Igo as I've heard a lot of good things.

been using copilot live and couple of observations:1 it will navigate you to the street but not number, got me lost a couple of times with this. #2 There are alot of incorrect voice prompts telling you to turn or bear right when it is actually straight, got me confused a couple of times. #3 They say TTS is available, however, it is only in europe. Can't beat the price though. Calls POI flawlessly, sexy interface, a bit slow, (not laggy), I am thinking of asking for refund to try IGO. Just my 2 cents

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

I like TT7 the best. I could not find any GPS program that has smooth scroll like TT7. The rest of the GPS software have jerky cursor.

Garmin XT has the most map. Some of them are open source. The thing I dont like about Garmin is that you cannot plan a route if you are not in a CITY! Say you are physically in LAX, but you just want to check out a route from ATL to NYC, but you cant do it! Isnt that stupid ???

Since TT7 does not work on the TP2, I will wait for this device. My TT7 works great on my Treo Pro.

Dont forget you cant zoom in and out anymore on your TP2 because there are no more physical d-pad.

Help, do I "buy" iGO8 and "THEN" follow which instructions - OR - is there a better way to get iGO8 "US" version. I too have a 16GB card and what do I do next?

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

I purchased Copilot 8 and have been happy as a clam with it. I've used TT7 and it was really laggy. One problem I've noticed is Copilot runs really smooth in portrait mode, but in landscape it is choppy like TT7 was. I like portrait better, but it's my gripe with the program. The interface is slick and the routing seems decent as well. Great program for $35.

I also liked iGo when I used it on my TP. But I have'n made an effort to use it on my TP2. I like Telenav and all the sub features it has. Gas prices, traffic, voice promts... etc. Not to mention Sprint did make it very convenient by pacing a tab ther for me. I only speak from my personal experiences... I haven't tried any other GPS software. My friend runs tomtom and Garmin and bounces between the two. I think you'd be hard pressed to find one that satisfies everyone. I love the choices thoug.

I use iGuidance. I've been using it since my Axim days with iGuidance 2. It works well, has TTS and the maps seem as close to up to date as I've seen. It may not be flashy, but it gets the job done.
