BMW phone controls don't work when device is locked

Hi all,

I just joined this forum and this is my first post. I recently upgraded from a Sprint Touch Pro to a Sprint Touch Pro2. I noticed that the phone controls in my BMW 335i are unable to dial a number when the device is locked. Instead I get a message on the phone screen to unlock the device. This is really irritating since the device auto-locks itself after 15 minutes and I am required to PIN-lock my device (Exchange policy). It makes the steering wheel phone controls essentially useless, since the whole idea was I could make calls without taking my eyes off the road. What's the point if I have to wake up the device and unlock it first while driving? This used to work fine with the Pro. Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it? Both phones were running WM6.1, so it is definitely not an OS thing.

Thanks!

Under start-settings-voice command, do you have a checkbox called "Password Protected"? Does it help to check that box? Not sure if a VC setting will do anything, but figured I'd mention it just in case.

Nope, that doesn't help. The error is not coming from Voice Command. It is coming from Bluetooth. It could be due to the new BT stack in the Pro2 ](*,) I am hoping there is some registry setting to turn the authentication off.

That is correct. The original TP works fine. I just confirmed with my wife's TP. The Tp2 gives the attached error.

So, there is no way to just leave it unlocked when you drive? I don't use exchange, so I'm not in the exact situation you are, but I do remember that when I was running a custom 6.5 ROM on my diamond it would never pair with my phone if it was locked. Asleep is fine, so I just don't lock my phone when I drive ... it's got a special place in the glove box where it likes to sit. :)

This is prolly no help, but I think it is just how the new Bluetooth stack works.

I doubt it. Exchange policy forces it for security in his case. Sorry my idea didn't help - what a pain. The more I read about the bluetooth problems on the TP2 the less I want one.

Correct. Phone auto-locks in 15 minutes due to Exchange Policy. Seriously, if there is a way to use the stock MS BT stack, I would love it. The new one is so crippled, I am frustrated no end.

You can set your exchange policy to only request an unlock every 24 hours if it is not used. Go under settings/all settings/personal/lock/enter your code/unlock & you will see the settings. Change the "prompt if device unused for" to 24 hours.

Not possible with my Exchange Policy. It enforces a maximum of 15 minutes.
