Re: BMW phone controls don't work when device is locked

then that is the issue. Your choices are:

-Talk to the IT department of your company
-Find a program that keeps the phone from locking
-Hack the registry to change the lockout time limit (not even sure that would work)

Those are the only 3 possibilities I can think of. My company policy is 24 hours (thank god) or I would not even bother with exchange.

I refuse to unlock the thing every 15 minutes.

Hope that helps

I might look into where those settings are stored tomorrow & see if I can modify the value, or the requirement for locking.

Hi all,

I just joined this forum and this is my first post. I recently upgraded from a Sprint Touch Pro to a Sprint Touch Pro2. I noticed that the phone controls in my BMW 335i are unable to dial a number when the device is locked. Instead I get a message on the phone screen to unlock the device. This is really irritating since the device auto-locks itself after 15 minutes and I am required to PIN-lock my device (Exchange policy). It makes the steering wheel phone controls essentially useless, since the whole idea was I could make calls without taking my eyes off the road. What's the point if I have to wake up the device and unlock it first while driving? This used to work fine with the Pro. Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it? Both phones were running WM6.1, so it is definitely not an OS thing.

Thanks!

You can modify the exchange policy that your company "pushed" to your handset. They are all registry entries and if you are comfortable editing them yourself, you can remove those restriction without impacting your exchange sync. I did this myself when my previous company did this to my handset. Here was an old post I wrote before about the location of those entries.

Thanks! Changing the policy helped. Wish there was a way to exclude Bluetooth from the enforcement though. If someone finds a way to do it, please reply.
