Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I've searched the forum but there doesn't seem to be a guide for this problem.
I get lots of skipping on any video I try besides the YouTube app. I've got the core player installed but it's not really any better then ol' Tcpmp performed. If I need to convert video then what is the right setting? On the Apache I used to set it to QVGA (320/240) at between 24-15 FPS and that was about as good as video looked on the unit. What is the correct setting if I have to dust off the converter? Ideally, I'd like to be able to take the files that are just on my computer and play them natively on the TP2. Is that possible? These are standard resolution xvid and divx files. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
personally, i use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
It's a video converter. It's easy to use and made just for this purpose. The mp4 files play perfectly smooth using your album. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I'm trying this out. Will get back to you later.
Any ETA on hardware acceleration for other players besides WMP? Or possibility WMP supporting more formats? |

Can I get precises stats on what WMP accepts? Because my attempt to give it WMV files failed also. I made the file and it plays fine on my computer but windows media player just chews on it forever. I will of course play without a problem on core player or TCPMP minus the issue with the screen skipping every few seconds. This is so annoying... |

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Ok, installed both of those and I don't know if it did anything. All that seems to have happened is that QTV doesn't work on Coreplayer anymore. I tried directdraw but it's still bad.
Ultimately, unless I did something wrong it seems like a step in the wrong direction. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I'm getting benchmarks on coreplayer of between 90-60 percent normal play speed. The 90 percent file is an MP4 that I'm trying to set to the right resolution. The 60 percent file is just a garden variety xvid file.
What am I doing wrong here? |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
After installing the Sprint cleanup Cab from the stickies, I tested Coreplayer and it was able to play a DVD resolution file with no skips or dropped frames. I did increase the buffer from 512 to 1 Meg though in the Coreplayer settings and it seemed to make a difference.

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I play straight 480p video on the TP2 in Core Player and TCPMP with everything set to maximum using direct draw and get absolutely perfect video and sound. You are doing something wrong if your TP2 doesn't work.

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I have been having the same problem as well. Lots of skipping. I have converted my DVD's to H.264 480x720res using cucusofts dvd converter and have been playing them with album. sometimes it plays very smooth but at other times is skips alot. I could not put the movies on my sd card with accusync for some reason so i copied them directly to the sd card. Does this have something to do with the sd card. I have been trying to find the cab to speed up ur sd card but I cant find it. Can anybody point me to where I can find it? Will it even help? Thanks

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
in general for my coreplayer ver 1.3.6 this is the settings I have
I increased the frame buffer to 2400 kb first I installed GFX and At0mAng drivers and finally I installed the TCPMP codec packs found here. I haven't had many issues with core playing any of my anime (and this is a 4.2 gb 1280x800 file that my computer couldn't play) Very good playback |

I do get dvr-ms files from my media center recordings and I've had mixed results at best using that program. I could convert to avi first, but as you said, it seems too tedious. If the software would monitor and auto-convert a folder, it wouldn't be bad at all. |

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Just got my touch pro 2. What a waste of the screen. It's longer and wider than an ipod touch screen, but the ipod touch's screen is a bit taller, when both are laid in landscape mode. These days with everything being wide screen, the touch pro 2's screen is more ideal.
I am going to hard reset and install nothing but the latest coreplayer on it to see if it can play my 480x360 file, which the player says is playing at only 13 frames per second. If it still doesn't work, I'm just disappointed yet again in a windows device. Update: hard reset, only installed coreplayer 1.3.6, playing an mp4 480x360 file, no difference. bufffer is 2400kb, gdi, raw, qvt, none of it helps. About 15 frames per second. It's too bad. This is with two different sources. They were .mp4. I guess I"ll try .avi. Update to my update: Coreplayer does indeed work. That was a weird sample video set that I threw at it, I guess. Standard avi was very smooth, and that was full dvd resolution. It is a much better player than the ipod's b/c you can pan and scan just the right amount. I am willing to sacrifice some of the wideangle stuff so that the picture can be bigger. I think that on a 3.6" screen, having full widescreen over 2 hours is not comfortable. A TV show width is, however. Fit + 10 or 20% is ideal for me. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
I am running a 640x360 Video at 103% play speed. 1.33Mbit/sec. Qtv, 1024Kb buffer. Video Quality High, Smooth Zoom On. Screen set to 16:9 screen. Left handed.
Used Handbrake with iPhone settings but 640 instead of the default 480 as well as 160kbit audio instead of the default 128kbit. Got 105% with 2048Kb buffer. |

Tweak pack + Coreplayer = Win. I think you can go even farther by installing the extra drivers but really all I needed was those two things. Core for me now runs at 105-130% on benchmark from as low as 80-98%. It was a big boost. I increased the buffer but I don't know if that mattered. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
If you want, you can check out the thread I started for benchmarking videos on core player. So far I can get 720x400 1.5mbits/s video at 108%.

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Hey whats up hoping someone can help. I was having problems at first with locking up the device. Changed from directdraw to GDI no problem now with playback speed. however the videos even when not fullscreened seem to be cropped cutting off the top and bottom. Crazy thing is they are low quality vids with only 320x180 res so it should fit in the screen fine anyone else having this issue thanks
|
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Is this all videos or just certain videos? where are you getting these?
Also it would be nice to know a list of all the things you've done to the unit since unboxing/hardresetting it. You've either got something wrong with the video files that would do that on any unit or settings were changed on Coreplayer/codecs corrupted/drivers corrupted. If it's the file then just reencode properly in the future. if it's core player there are settings that involve zoom aspect etc. if it's corrupted codecs/drivers then either reinstall or hard-reset. Don't know what else to tell you. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
It happens on any video. It is still a stock rom and have not flashed the device. The only thing I did was take the storage card out of my TP 1 and put in my TP 2. I installed the same version of TCPMP that was on my TP1. The only difference is my TP1 had 6.5 flashed on it where the new TP 2 still has 6.1. The other thing i noticed that is different is that on my TP 1 I did not have to make any changes to the setting for good playback. On the TP2 the only way I can get playback is to disable DirectDraw and switch it to GDI or change the direct draw setting to use blitting. I am really at a loss it sucks too cuz I like to watch music vids and it is cutting off peoples heads and some on the sides all around cropping

Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
First, try coreplayer... the TP2's video drivers are crap which is why we have to use this lame GDI stuff instead of directx.
Second, there is a TP2 cleanup pack on this site. Install it. My TP2 was doing everything wrong until I install that. I also was able to "sorta" fix the bluetooth issues on this thing... so ask if you need a solution for that. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is the GPS lag. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Cool I was wandering if coreplayer would fix it. Is there a trial version I just can see paying 30 for something that might not work. Also when you say the drivers are no good are you refering to the hardware itself or just the software drivers that it uses
|
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
No trial version that I can see...
Ultimately, HTC screwed up with the TP2. The drivers are wrong or disabled or there's some kind of licensing problem with the CPU maker. Either way HTC f'ed us. I'm kind of used this sort of thing so it doesn't even make me mad anymore. I take it for granted that I have to put in some time to make crap work. I could have gotten a iphone and had everything work out of the box but I wanted a PPC and the freedom to control how my machine worked. I pay the price for that. In any event, either HTC or qualcomm got cheap and the result is that the device has very conditional hardware acceleration. Coreplayer found a way around the problem... and they'll sell it to you for a price. You could try an "unofficial" demo of their product but that's between you and your internet connection. |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
Thanks I may try to find a UNofficial Demo.
I certainly enjoy finding ways to make mine work also. It was between this and the MotoDroid. The droid while easy to use and with alot of fun extras still does not compare in my opinion to a PPC |
Re: Can someone sum up how to fix video playback on the Touch Pro2?
can someone tell me full settings that work well for coreplayer and tp2... i'm loooking for other peoples opinions than the ones stated above. just want to see if there are other customizations people are using. thanks.

Qtv Display High Only for 50% <unchecked> Buffering Normal buffer size: 2400 Qtv display "TyTN II" Driver Mode I don't think I installed anything besides Coreplayer and the Sprint TP2 cleanup pack found on this website. I still have some videos that run slow but it's rare. 95 percent of the stuff I have plays perfectly. |
