Luckily or unluckily, I'm able to consitently reproduce the problem, since at work I have perfect 3G and at home I'm in a fringe area. After leaving work, my phone will be in 3G/EV until I get home. Then, after the phone times out/goes to sleep, upon waking it'll have switched to 1X, where it stays no matter if I move back into a 3G area.

...

Just a quick update. I noticed that when I got home last night I still had a 3G signal even after my phone timed out and went to sleep. I noticed when I woke up it was still on 3G and so far hasn't switched to 1X since yesterday morning. I'm cautiously optimistic that either Verizon updated the 3G towers in my area (which a rep told me was in the works but didn't have an ETA) or they've fixed the issue on their end. Hopefully it's not a fluke. I'll keep you posted.

i've noticed normal 3g 1x transitions in. the seattle area where i was previously stuck in 1x...for about 72 hrs now i have had 3g with occasional expected moments of 1x which spontaneously reverted to 3g. this is despite a few soft resets....so far so good!

Well I spoke to soon. Stuck in 1x again & no updates on the trouble ticket I opened.

Sadly I did too. I did a soft reset at work and was shocked to see that dreaded 1X. I had to do another soft reset to get back on 3G. This is getting ridiculous. I had my hopes up and everything.

My first phone was stuck in 1x for a while, but I also had a defective handset speaker.

I think the radio on this phone is jacked and needs a firmware update. I don't see how it could be anything else.

That's amazing throughput! Is that tethered or using the mobile version of DSL report speed test? On the mobile version I peak at about 900kbps, and average around 650-900 when I run the following speed test in Opera:

I'm not sure if it's a result of Verizon working on my trouble ticket, or if I've just been lucky, but i haven't had the 1X stuck problem since Sunday afternoon.

Tethered in Center City Philadelphia, I get:

Agreed.

I would say everyone hold off on asking for replacements if this is your only issue because it seems unlikely a replacement is going to do anything at this point.

We won't know if we're looking at defective hardware until the SPL comes out and we can start swapping radio firmwares to see if they make a difference.

With those speeds, you are definitely in EV! Would you say that this replacement phone has stayed in EV much more reliably than your previous phone?
