Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

The Battery on my Pro 2 is not as strong as the Pro. 20 minutes of talk, 10 txt and 10-15 minutes of browsing eats about 3 bars on a full charge.

I am going to keep track of the usgage & types of usage for the power drain.

I read that you shoud fully charge only a low battery. Also, do not charge the phone while talking on it.

I'm loving the battery life on mine. I'd think about getting a different battery if that's really the case with that amount of usage because that is pretty lame.

These phones use lithium ion batteries, there is no need to let the battery run low on a regular basis, that can cause more harm than good. So basically just keep it charged all the time. Now as far as bad battery performance there could be a number of issues going on with the phone but for the most part the common consensus around here is that the tp2 battery performance is alot better than the tp1

What? I just received my phone at 5:00pm I started paying with it.
THen I activated it and it had 2 bars straight from the box. After I activated it I've sent like 10 txt messages, 30 minutes of calls, you tube video, internet browsing..
Playing with it a little more, I ran three times the stuck pixels video because I have like 4 stuck pixels, well you can notice only one.. And I still have 2 bars.

Maybe you have a defective phone or something? My battery life outshines my TP by a landslide.

I remember when I first got my Diamond that a few people had worse battery life than others and the advice was to take it to the store and get a new battery -- which worked. Since there are no TP2s at the store, maybe try calling tech support to see if they will send you one ... worth a shot. Or you could wait until the stores are carrying the phone.

My touch pro 2 has incredible battery life! I've got 2 bars left at 8:20PM, took the phone off the charger at 9 or so this morning. On the Pro, it would have died awhile ago or it would have been put on the charger by now.

I paid $6 delivered each for 3 extra batteries from china, they work perfectly around 3.5 hours of heavy internet use/browsing etc....

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

My battery seems to do very well. Had wifi on for 3-4 hours this morning after I got my phone as well as using it nearly constantly configuring it and installing stuff. Only had it plugged in for charging for a few minutes as I hooked it up to my computer to copy stuff over onto it and the batter went from ~50% out of the box to probably ~5-10% as I just got the low battery notification shortly before leaving for work. With my 6700, it would have been dead after about 3 hours with a full charge if I was using it the same way.

The battery on my TP2 blows. So I called Verizon and they shipped me out a new battery, I should have it by thursday.

What are the chances that it's the phone and not the battery? I mean, how often is the phone the culprit and not the battery? It sounds to me like it would almost be exclusively a battery issue. How could the phone be the issue?

Right now we're all just getting use to the TP2. It wouldn't surprise me though if a month of two from now we start finding out that HTC had some issue's with batches of batteries and thus there are some of us experiencing issues.

I am coming from a Sprint Mogul which only lasted around six hours at most on a full charge if I left IM+ on. Which the TP2, I have had the battery last almost 24 hours with IM+ on.

I don't own a TP2 yet, but my Touch/Vogue has a battery under 3 months old. Today it was off of the charger at 7am, full charge. I sent and received 4 text messages, and read 2 emails. My battery was at 10% at 4pm. In my case, its the phone.

But how do you know it's the phone? I'm not calling you out bud, I'm actually wondering how do you know? I was told that I can go to a Verizon store and they can test the device to see if it's the phone or battery. Either the technical support woman was talking out her @ss or they really do have a method for testing, I don't know. I'm gonna look into it though.

I actually had the phone tested at a Sprint store. It's required by them before they will replace the battery for free. Here is the issue though. They said it would take ~45 mins, so my girl and I went to lunch. Came back 30 mins later, so I knew I had a bit of a wait time ahead of me. So we waited for another hour or so. I finally got fed up and asked a rep what the deal was. She came out with my phone a couple minutes later. I am thinking my phone got pushed to the side, and missed. I complained, and they just threw a battery in there to appease me. Before all this, I bought a battery from Radioshack, and had the same short life span issues. So, 3 batteries, and battery life under 12 hours, do the math.

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

Actually, more than likely, you've got all the radios on, and you've left Push Internet services on... that or a bad battery, in which case turn them off when you're not using them and replace the battery.

My battery is lasting longer than my extended TP1 battery did, and I definitely spent about 2 hours on the phone today, plus about 15 texts, 15 hours of email syncing, and lots of just playing around with it... still sitting at 50%.

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

goto settings, all settings, click on the battery that says "power". Slide over to one of the tabs on the right and it will tell you how long it's been since a full charge, how many minutes/hours spent in stand by, talk, something else. I would look on my phone, but I'm tethering on a road trip with my laptop.

nuguy 09-15-2009 10:10 PM

I'll bet your wifi is on, that is the single largest battery drain...

Or ar you in an awful service area?

I must have a magic battery...i unplugged my phone at 6 am had about 45 mins worth of calls, 30 min of browsing and Bluetooth on since 6 and now at 10pm i'm at 50%. but this is with the hacks so maybe it's not magic

I also paid $17 to get 2 batteries and a charger from a Chinese seller at eBay,the battery lasts 3 1/2 hours on internet radio stream,4 hours on OEM battery,so the Chinese made battery not bad at all.

According to my info page, here's my stats:

Last full charge: 6:35am
Standby time: 13 hours, 27 minutes
Talk time: 2 hours, 34 minutes
Device usage: 3 hours, 54 minutes (2 email accounts syncing every hour, plus me playing around)

I'm at 48%. It's midnight.

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

Take note that the CDMA TP has a 1340 mAh battery and the TP2 has a 1500mAh battery. The latter having a higher capacity.

My opinion is that this is the same situation that happened when the original TP came out. The stock software made the battery life SUCK and such hardcore. But we quickly figured out that HTC didn't optimize power settings and had a ton of power-save registry settings disabled. After we unlocked the TP, we were able to get better ROMs on our devices that were pre-optimized for battery and performance. Give it time, we'll work out the kinks.

Oh, and that's a lot more screen real-estate.

My battery is absolutely phenomenal on my tp2!

A full day with 60%-70% remaining.

This includes texting, push email (exchange) all day, automatic facebook updates, weather updates, push internet, palringo + msn mobile for atleast 4-5 hours outta the day.

The vx6875 battery actually lasts an entire day, while the vx6850 had to be charged multiple times to make it through the day. This is with 1 MSexchange account, set to push, 1 IMAP set to sync every 30, 1 POP3 set to sync every 15. 15 - 20 calls a day, with about 15 - 30 text messages. Love my TP2!!!

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

Hmm, I took mine off the charger between 11:00AM and noon and by the time I was out of class (6:45) the phone was totally drained. I hardly used it at all. And since I was in class, from 3:30 until 6:45 the device was unused and on the silent sound profile. When I took it out of my pocket after class it was a bit warm, too. I have two email accounts synched, one checking every 60 minutes, the other set to "arrive as received" or whatever Windows Live offers. Wifi off, BT off, don't see a "beam" setting as others have suggested.

When I got home I opened the dotfred Task Manager and sorted by CPU usage. VZOMobile.exe showed constant 5% CPU usage. This is a video chat program I got on the TP2 software thread on XDA that I had installed but never even used. I killed it but 5 mins later it was back on. I ran the program, then registered an account and logged in and then exited the program. Hasn't shown up on task manager since... weird. Could that small 5% constant CPU be the problem with my battery draining? It seems like such a small amount. Or was Task Manager maybe taking a share of the CPU and perhaps the VZOMobile.exe was taking more when it had CPU all to its own? The phone has been charging now for a while and seems very cool, whereas before it almost always seemed warm.

Also I should add, I got the phone Saturday, so maybe it's too early to judge the battery life.

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

My battery life went way down compared to Saturday, when I seemed to be doing the same sort of stuff. The difference may have been that I had turned on Push Internet, Stocks updating automatically, Weather automatically, POP email very 10 (up from every 15), etc. I just reset everything back, so will see how it goes tomorrow.

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

I'm not sure what i've done... but my battery used to be good for over 2 days without charge. But I installed a bunch of things (most of the stuff in MightyMike's hacks/tips sticky thread) and a few other things like the 2d/3d graphics drivers etc. My battery has taken a dive... big time. I can easily get though the day, with minimal/moderate usage and battery is @ 20 - 30% levels. The same usage a few weeks ago would have been 60%+.

Can someone point me in the directions of a good backup your phone for hard reset thread or tool?

Re: htc tp2 battery is weak

I am wondering if the people with good battery life are leaving the auto dim feature on vs people with bad battery life are turning that off and manually cranking the brightness to full. I have my brightness to full and no autodim. I can maybe get through a work day (8am-6pm). Haven't tested the difference though.

i've been playing with my tp2 a lot since i got it.. i always last to the next morning. it's great! don't make much calls, but i use other stuff like gps, a lot of texting and multiple email accounts checking every hour or every 4 hrs. plus i'm still playing iwht it a lot because of the new factor. can't wait to see how long i can push battery life when i let it stay idle more.

I thought my battery drain was atrocious because the percentage gauge at the top of the phone read 65% after a full charge and using phone for only 20 min. But when I look under Power in settings I am at full strength. Is that gauge faulty?
