Notification Question

When I first got the TP2, I noticed when I got a notification (i.e., a text message or email) it would provide the number next to the slider icon like it's suppose to. However, when I would go to the message or email, the notification number (next to the slider icon) would not go away unless I actually opened up the message or email. I would have to actually open up the text message or email to get the notification number(s) to disappear.

Now today, I've noticed when I get a text message if I slide over to the text message the number disappears after viewing the preview for about 3 seconds. This is what I would expect and I actually prefer.

However, email messages still do not clear the number unless I physically open them up. It would be nice if I could just flick through each new preview and be done with the notification numbers without actually opening the entire email message.

Is this happening to anyone else, and if so...how can I get it to act like my text messages are now doing?

I'm perplexed how my text messages notifications have changed behavior as mentioned above. I just wish my email notifications would do the same thing.
