Then let us know when you come back from China. I can wait:p Most of all, if their reps said it's not locked for GSMs out of US, it should be like that.

I tried both T-mobile and ATT sim card, it did not work, phone could not lock into the network. I don't know whether the TP2 need to be unlocked first before we can use GSM service.

No it has NO subsidy (network) lock EXCEPT for US-based GSM carriers.

Why? Because FCC told them to.

Stevedusa, also when you're outside of the country, can you confirm for us that the Touch Pro 2 GPS works when away from US cell signals?

We were able to confirm the Touch Pro has fully working stand alone GPS using a method like this. That application NoniGPSPlot is now up to v2.80. If you could confirm being able to use NoniGPSPlot v2.80 or any other stand alone GPS app outside the USA on your Spint Touch Pro 2 when WiFi is off, that would be great.

Don't forget the phone settings has a network selection. You can choose GSM only, CDMA only or Global. I imagine you need to have it on Global for both to work.

US GSM carriers use different bands than Foreign GSM carriers. That is why you couldn't get a lock with AT&T or T-Mobile

You reference was not correct. Touch pro GPS enables a-GPS, which requires network connection once a week to provide a fix (basically the built-in QuickGPS program). Unless you find a way to enable the phone built-in GPS to standalone mode, this restriction is always there, even for Garmin XT.

Yes, the Touch Pro has both working stand alone GPS and aGPS. The Touch Pro, Touch Diamond and Treo Pro all can function in both stand alone GPS and aGPS modes. But PLEASE let's not debate the Touch Pro here. I'm asking about the Touch Pro 2. Let's allow Stevedusa to try while he's in China if he's willing to give it a shot and see what he reports back.

This phone is quad band + 2100 UTMS, non-standard GSM band is out of the question.

Yes we tried GSM-only. Trust me, it's locked down for US-based GSM carriers.

I will try both the non-US SIM OUTSIDE of the States AND the GPS once I arrive in Canton, China in two weeks, will report back.
