Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
I would think the easier route would be to add a reservation on your DHCP server for the IP address that you desire. That way if you join another wifi network, you won't have to switch back to DHCP each time.

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
I know with my router I can reserve a static IP for a given MAC address. I have a bunch of servers running on my laptop with a bunch of ports forwarded so I need to have the same IP when I'm at home but I like to leave DHCP going in case I'm on the go and using a different wifi network.
This way you could always have the same IP assigned to your phone on your home network. Not sure if your router would support this but see if you can go that route. |

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
thank you tek818
I did look at that option first - but the LAN administrator has set it in a very restrictive way - if I go the DHCP route, I get LAN access, but no WAN access. I know how he has done this, but I don't know why... |

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
Thank you Rick#2 - At home, that works (I use 'DD-WRT' firmware, so I know what you are referring to), but this is at work - can't really get em to change their policy...
I know this works on the mogul, so not sure why it is not working on the tp2... Do we know which network adapter is used for wifi and which one for the EVDO? |

HEH, exact same problem here, only solution is to use a program called WIFI PROFILES, i'll attach a cab. What this program does is allow you to set "profiles" that you have to enable and disable respectively. My network is set up with static ips, so I enable a profile to enter my IP information as well as turn on wifi, then when I am done, enable the EVDO profile, which disables wifi and clears the IP entries. Sad to say, it's the WM 6.1 build they're using, and not your phone. Last edited by freeza; 09-08-2009 at 03:46 PM. |

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
freeza, thank you!! I will try this out as soon as I get home today!
You are right - it has something to do with this particular build (because it worked just fine with the stock WinMo6.1 on my Mogul) Again, thank you |

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
just thought I'd update this post - it works fine with the stock Sprint 6.5 ROM (allows me to assign static IP to my wifi connection, and allows server assigned IP to the Sprint access)

Re: Sprint TP2 - Static IP for LAN?
Ok.. I know you used the search engine. So I will post why this occurs.
I had the same problem, and havig to configure your router is not the solution, albeit works, but potentially causes problem of various natures on your interneral network. Reason: The network adapter that controls the Wifi 802.11 data and the adapter that controls the CDMA data, are the same and since your CDMA data needs a DHCP ip address the adapter will only use one setting, not both. This works as "it should" in the updated ROMS. Such as NRG's and Mighty's ROMS. I talked to sprint about this issue and they said it was a design decision. "Yeah right" in other words they meant "we goofed" our "business analyst" is a moron, and "we relay on the ppcgeeks.com website for all of our support issues". So just update to a ROM of your choice, and the issue will be solved. |
