Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

Is anyone noticing that after the unit sits, the first sound is plays through the speaker (IE: a key tone) is very quiet. Right after the initial sound byte is played through the speaker it then gains the correct volume as in your volume settings.

I am having a bit of trouble hearing my email notification as it only beeps once. It is abnormally quiet despite my volume settings.

Can anyone confirm this? Try playing with the ring tone alerts, the first one may be really quiet and the subsequent tone will play as it should.

Since I still have a Mogul, I don't know if this issue was fixed already in the TP1, but does having the sounds for keypresses in the dialer cause a delay that goes away if you disable button-press sounds in the dialer?

I think this is a differnt issue for the dialer...as stated in the intial 1st post the first "byte" is quiet and then all further "bytes" are heard at the current set volume. This becomes a problem for notifications for e-mail, text messages etc., which are usually single beeps or clicks. I guess we could change our notifications to sing a 5 min song and you would never miss a text again...or hope for a fix. lol

I understand, but it's sort of a closely related issue, with the dialer and sounds. Just wondering.........

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

This may have something to do with a power management setting. When you get a message the device has to wake up a little before it plays the new message tone. I would suggest changing the notification tone to a longer one. This may help. This has happened to me every once and a while but not always. I have mine set to vibrate on this notification regardless and that def helps to get my attention. You could try disabling some of the power management settings in the registry one by one and see if any have an effect but you may notice a negative effect on battery life.

It does the same thing when you play bubble breaker, sometimes the 'pop' sound will be very low in volume, then the next time it will play at normal volume.

Thanks for the input. It's a great observation however this issue occurs even when the unit is fully awake. Just simply testing out the ring tones will yield this issue. If it only happened when the phone was asleep I would definitely think it was a power management bug. Now I wish it was so we could start diagnostics.

^bump^ ..just so this doesnt get lost :)

I also noticed that this issue occurs during every sequence of ring during an incoming call. Using Ring-Standard3

yes, have noticed this when playing BB as well! hard to set the volume at right level to ensure you can play on the subway and not annoy your neighbors, because it keeps changing on you!

(i may also be having the same behavior with missing the first part of notification sounds when coming out of sleep, but i am still in the process of choosing tones and volume levels, so I hadn't started to worry just yet.)

The ONLY work-around I found (and it's not even really a work-around) is to disable the key tones because those are the most annoying part about having a loud system volume. After those are disabled you can jack the system volume to 100%, so you can at least get the MOST out of the single tone alerts, even when they don't play as loud as they SHOULD.

I have a feeling there will be a fix soon enough though.

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

I'm really hating that it goes from quiet to loud...its rather a big problem for me because aside from the calls (because it lasts for awhile), I miss most of my other notifications because it's so dam quiet. (I thought the speaker system was top notch on this thing!!!!)

Is there ANY fix to this at all?

i noticed when i disabled voice command it stopped doing this to me not sure if it was a luck or what but with it disabled my phone does not do the loud toquiet thing you all have trouble with

Wow, psychological? I don't know. I went ahead and disabled VC and it does seem to solve the problem. Will report again in an hr or so to see if it really did fix

UPDATE: Apparently it goes on and off..I guess it worked somewhat but not entirely. At times, sounds would play at full volume immediately but not always

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

Some of my ringers play at low volumes and some higher but they dont sound like the volume is all the way up. I can play them in WMP and they are loud. I didnt notice at first cause I didnt change the ringers/alerts. Annoying

Edit:I have a music ringer I made set for incoming calls and the volume is very low. I used the same ringer and set it for new texts and it sounds like it should, loud.

Glad you mentioned this. Keep me from having to...VC is causing this issue. Basically the volume lowers when the name is suppose to be announced. Seems as if VC is broken. As i enabled "announce calls with using bluetooth if available....I don't hear any name instead the low volume kicks in where name is suppose to play and then sound kicks back up for ringtone..Im not saying you have to use my method to repeat issue but yes VC is definitely broken.

It happens on my phone as well, notifications and in Bubble Breaker, and I never use voice command. It may be part of it, but that isn't the fix. :(

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

Im not using VC either. Just incoming call ringer volume is my problem,so far. Whats wierd is when I call from one of my other phones and then hang up, my tp2 volume jumps to full volume for a second.

Are you guys using stock ringers or ones you made and already had? Im going to redo some of mine and see if it changes anything. Possibly a corrupt file I hope.

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

I dont have this issue. However, when I make a phone call the first number on the dialer I hit is soft then it gets louder and stays loud. Also if I wait a good 5 or more seconds the next time I hit a key it will be soft again and then gets loud and stays loud unless I let it idle again. I think this is basicly a safty feature to keep your speaker from blowing. The speaker phone is really good on this but the incall volume freaking sucks

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

I'd rather have my speaker blow since I have insurance...cause of these "low to high" sounds, I always miss my email and text notifications.

All of my sounds are stock btw

I've been missing my notifications too. I'm developing quite a list of little issues, actually. I want to stick with this phone, but the ICI (Interactive Cartoon Interface) doesn't work as well for business, in my opinion, as the Mogul with all it's buttons and AEButton+. But the screen sure is easier for me to read, and there are other positives.

Mine is stock, and it does have the "ascending" volume. When I use my speaker phone on a call, the rings go from soft to louder.

Voice Command is stock too. Mine was on, and I don't recall turning it on, but maybe I did

Getting the same High to Low volume on speaker issue when receiving a phone call, or even just playing the ring-tone on my phone.

I too, have noticed this problem. Although I haven't paid enough attention to determine when exactly it happens. I'll try to pay more attention in an effort to assist in troubleshooting.

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

Ok. I just hard reset my phone about four hours ago and am just now getting around to setting up the e-mail again. While I'm using the phone, actually while I was TYPING, a text came in, and it was low, then got louder. Is it possible that escalating tones are enabled on everything? Of course, the escalation was much faster than it is when the ringtone is set to escalate.

mdphoenix 09-16-2009 07:11 PM

Re: Speaker volume (quiet then loud)

And the plot thickens...

On my way home, I had my Motorola T505 connected via Bluetooth to my TP2. Pressing the button on the T505 makes Voice Command kick in. The Voice Command prompt was very low. I stated whom I wanted the phone to call. VC responded with the usual, "Call, John Doe?". But when it did, "call" was very low. "John Doe" was normal. Also, after I told it "yes", the quick DTMF sound you usually hear to indicate it's dialing isn't audible. There's definitely a problem here. My phone was plugged in to the cig lighter, on, and paired.

I just got my Verizon TP 2 today & it's doing the same thing (it is REALLY annoying)

I turned off the VC in the first 5 minutes I owned it as I never use it, so that's not the problem.............

I am on sprint and have this issue as well. Lets ban together and get HTC to fix this lol. It is really annoying but not nearly as annoying as the fact that my speaker volum sucks.

What do we do? Shake our fists in the air until htc puts a fix out? This is the only thing I have a problem with.
P.S. I just saw a DQ commercial and now I need an oreo blizzard!!!!!
