Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
This post isn't for people due for an upgrade.
How are you planning on getting rid of your Touch Pro to get the Touch Pro 2? Ebay? Buying it outright? Calling retentions and having a fool proof story that leaves them no choice but to give you a Touch Pro 2 at heavily discounted prices? ;) I know that kind of thing used to work, heck it's how I got my Mogul and the original Touch. I was just wondering what people in the same boat as me are planning on doing. |
Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
The better question would be how many TP owners are switching to the TP2? Not I.

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
Won't insurance give you a TP2 if you lost or broke your old TP? Just wondering.

You are absolutely correct, if someone bought me one or one was given to me, then I would ditch my touch pro. However, I won't spend any money to get a bigger screen and 3.5mm jack. It just doesn't make sense to me. Of course there are things that other people might want out of the TP2, but it isn't for me. FYI - The only time I get into the TP2 forum is when it is on the front page. |

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I am doing a really good job not wanting this. I usually get the new thing when it drops, but I now have a 7 month old and we are down to my income alone so I can't come up with a good enough reason to drop ~6 bills on this. Do you know how many diapers that is?!
My apologies to the OP for thread jacking. |

My keyboard is out. Hoping to score a new TP2 to replace. (This would be my 5th keyboard that went out) |

I emailed CS the other day pleading my case about the horrible battery life (I truly believe mine is worse than others) and sometimes my keyboard stops working as well as a few of the front face buttons. Their response was I could give them 100 dollars and get another Touch Pro, even though I specifically said in the email that these are issues that are widespread, not just my particular phone. I'm thinking of calling retentions once the TP2 comes out and pleading my case again, although I don't want to get flagged as a repeat complainer/con artist just trying to get a new phone or something. I don't know how they view stuff like that, so I'm kind of on the fence about how to go about this. |

If I wait until Jan 2011, I can get a slew of discounts including $200 from my employer and whatever Sprint offers for contract renewal. However, I want the TP2 now. I am sure we can get $150 for the TP on ebay. Anyone knows Sprint's retail price for the TP2? |

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
FWIW: I talked to Sprint rep the other day and he told me that the TP2 will be GSM so it can be used in other countries. The rep mentioned that TP2 will be one of Sprints few GSM phones.
I also asked about the HTC Leo to see if he knew anything about a phone with those kinds of specs coming out. The response I got was that those are GSM and will not be in the US for awhile. Not sure if that is really the case or if he was just trying to direct me to the TP2 now because it is the closest to being out. |
Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I'm upgrading because I'm currently out of contract. ;)

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
Well scamming aside, I sort of lucked out with Sprint. An error in their database shows me as coming up on the end of my 2 year contract. I've got $150 I can put towards a new phone, so I'll sign up for another 2 year contract getting the TP2 at the sale price, then put the 150 towards the phone, then sell my TP on ebay for 200. Should even out I think. I may even come out of this with some money in my pocket.
Not a scam or anything, just doing what Sprint tells me I can do and playing dumb. |
Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
They don't give you the sale price and then $150 off afterward, you would just get the new subscriber price (assuming you renew a 2yr contract).
|
Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I will be getting for sure especially now that it is rumored that 6.5 will be released in October for the phone....Not sure how I am gonna do it yet. Probably buy it and sale my TP on Ebay and roll out the credit card for a month and a half so i should be out some money but not too bad.

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I'm happy with the TP now that I'm flashed with the Eagle ROM, yet I'm planning to get the TP2 from Sprint. I've been out of contract for years so I'll just sign another one, it's a no-brainer especially with pro-rated cancellation fees.

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
My touch pro broke a couple of months back and i have the insurance through best buy, so I took the phone in and they said they would call me and let me know when my replacement had come in. It turns out that best buy has no more touch pro's at any of there stores in the US. So basically I have a $750 credit with Best Buy to get any sprint phone I want and I'm waiting for the touch pro 2.
|
Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
Hopefully Best Buy will get that smartphone deal again like last year...

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I got in on that deal. I returned the tp but I did get mine for 150.00 and that was a awesome deal. With all the keyboard issues I am glad I did. I hope the touch pro 2 does not have the same fate but I don't think it will. It seems like this thing is built pretty good

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
I logged onto Sprint.com and did the live chat with a rep. Didn't go so well. I basically told her my keyboard goes out from time to time, my battery life is atrocious, the thing overheats and the GPS lags behind causing me to miss turns. She said my only option is to bring it in for repairs or get sent a new one. I told her I can find pages upon pages of people reporting the exact same problems, it's not just my phone, it's every Touch Pro, so what's the point of being sent a new Touch Pro? It's going to have the same problems. I said "I know you guys are coming out with the TP2 in the next few weeks, why don't you just send me one of those instead" lol
She then said they haven't determined a price for it yet, and still my only option was to have it repaired or get sent a new one. SO...try #1 not successful. I'm going to call (cancellation dept) the next time instead of the online chat. And I'm going to do it after the TP2 is out. Anyone else thinking of trying a method like this? Is this bad? I mean the problems I'm mentioning are real. It's not like I'm making stuff up. |

Do you mind elaborating on that some more? ^^^ How is it that "everyone" can upgrade in "11" months?

if you are not a premeire cust you only qualify for $75 not the full rebate, but retentions makes an exception

Re: Sprint users ditching the TP for the TP2
Most/some of us will get to sign another 2 year contract in a month or two eventhough we upgraded to the Pro last year. Priemer cust, need to sell some phone or whatever you want to call it.
I can get the same deal as I did last year. I am picking-up a Pro 2 the day it hits a sprint store or BB. |

Would anyone buy a 6 to 12 month old phone, especially one affected by use like a slider with a keyboard for $200 when new in box is $$220? I will be looking at standard touch pro as soon as tp2 comes out as I expect them to drop to close to $100. |
