I have a VZ TP that was not working on GPS at all. Turns out the location had turned itself off. After I turned it back on (& cancelled out a warning from VZ) I had an 8 bar satellite lock almost instantly (& I was inside a building) ~John |

Re: How To: Configure GPS
I'm in a similar boat with Verizon. Inside of Google Maps, when I let the application do its own thing (Using Windows to handle GPS), I get "Seeking GPS Satellites (0)" indefinitely. When I manually set it to use COM4, I get the same Seeking GPS Sattelites message, but instead of (0) I get some massive number (this time when I tried, it was 296418628)...
I haven't been able to get anything going GPS-wise, so I'm wondering if some systems vrom VZW were good to go out of the box and others need to be coaxed... |

I should say: I have had gps working on the device, but the lock time made it essentially unusable to me. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
GHAA...
I went into QuickGPS and d/l'ed the latest details (and made sure location svcs were turned on) - now the number has changed to 430636356. I did *something* to change it, but still no actual GPS functionality, per se. Good times, good times. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
yea im dying to get GPS access so i can run garmin etc etc...not about to pay monthly for an inferior product (vzw navigator)
|
Re: How To: Configure GPS
And now it's magically working. I think, best guess, that (at least for Verizon) you MUST turn on Location Services - this one's pretty obvious - and the best way to do that is through QuickGPS... then it seems like you have to be out in the wide open the first time to get it to "wake up" and then you're good.
OTOH, maybe the next time I try it I'll be dead in the water again... :) |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Awesome. Hopefully it will survive a reset.
At this point I'm not even sure I can get a non-assisted lock. I guess I should get back that point before going on. Anybody that has working assisted GPS, could you please give your PRL/PRI? They pushed an old Alltel PRL (40055) to me I guess since I didn't update my plan. I'm just trying to eliminate unknowns. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Is there any way to get this working on Cricket? I have a Touch Pro. Thanks.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
ok doing that through quick GPS seemed to work, now to try garming or something like that

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Judging on some of the comments in here, was everyone with Verizon's TP2 factory GPS settings the same?
I've done one hard reset so far. Both times I was set to COM4, I've still yet to change. Others have this set differently? |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
I was using my Sprint TP2 on vacation and was using Google maps, and used the GPS and it worked just fine, so is there any reason to do any of the configuring in this post whatsoever?
Thanks! |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Has a VZW user figured out how to put the TP2 into diag mode? I try #3424# but it does not do the trick.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
My Verizon TP2 works right out of the box for GPS and aGPS.
When I launch Google Maps it finds me from 500 to 1,000 meters, and then when the satelites kick in, ( pretty quickly I might add ) it finds me to within 40 meters. I haven't had a single issue yet and all I did was turn on location and download the quickGps data. :headbang: |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Garmin working perfectly :)

Re: How To: Configure GPS
saidin69, out of curiosity, how long is "pretty quick" for your sat lock? Is that with aGPS?
I still can't get a lock in under 3 or 4 minutes. |

Re: How To: Configure GPS
This has seemed to have caused a bigger problem for me. Sprint TP2. GPS was working, though poorly, often couldn't find any satellites w/o running QuickGPS first. Installed sprint cab and now google maps can't even initialize gps. Went to uninstall cab, its not listed. No details of cab mentioned so I don't know if there are just registry changes I can revert. I tried the gpsOne settings and I can't get the drivers to install (windows7) it won't take those files listed. So there is no HTC Diagnostic Interface device in my ports for step 7. Totally stuck. Any ideas? I'm down to hard reset, but rather not do that. Thanks everybody!

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Telus TP2 with the stock rom. I ran the cab and now the gps gets several sats in seconds and I am inside. Before I could be outside and it would take a minute or two just to find 2 to 3 sats.
Huge difference. |

Re: How To: Configure GPS
I did nothing on my VZW TP2 except turn Location on and run quickGPS I have had steady locks in a few seconds and it is almost spot on everytime. I am sitting in my office and connected to Bings track my location and found my exact location in about a second. I do not have a window office either.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
I concur that on a VzW TP2, there shouldn't be any cabs needed. I was able to turn location on, download the QuickGPS data, and fire it up on TomTom using the 'internal gps' option in the GPS Configuration menu. You can also manually configure TomTom (and iGo) to use it by selecting COM 4.

I (mostly) get locks, but they usually take minutes. When I trialled VZN, it was getting locks in seconds, so it's not a HW limitation on my phone. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Verizon GPS seems to work nicely right out of the box without this hack. Just ran QuickGPS, let it update, ran Google Maps, phone told me the GPS was off and took me right to the phone settings (nice!) where I set it from 911 Only to Location On. Got the aGPS lock immediately, took maybe 15 secs to get the initial satellite lock, and from then on it's been virtually instantaneous when I check traffic in the evenings. Just try to make sure you're outdoors when getting the initial lock, it will go much more smoothly.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Hmm with my TP2 I get 6-8 satellites in my house....Im wondering if i should install the cab because it seems to cause some people's gps to stop working????
|
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Had trouble installing Google Maps on my VXW Touch Pro 2. Get an error message saying it doesn't work on my phne. I have built-in navigation in my car, so probably wouldn't use it that much. But would be nice to have something other than VZW Navigator when I do travel so i don't have to take the TomTom along.
Any suggestions. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Somehow my VZW TP2 is now doing cellular instead of GPS Sat triangulation. Best fix I can get is between 1500 & 1900 meters. :( Any ideas on how I can get it back to Sat triangulation? Using a fresh install of Google Maps.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
I have Sprint TP2 and my GPS is immediate as well (stock gps with no regedits). After softreset google maps takes about 20 seconds to lock, then its instant from then on.
I did try a few different tracking programs, and VisualGPSCE seemed to cause a com port issue (it has to get direct access instead of using the windows driver), and then I'd get gps issues where it wouldnt lock and use cell towers, but soft-reset fixes that. I've since removed VisualGPSCE and now I use tracker.cab (found on xda) to save my bike rides with no issues and great accuracy. |
