**6/11/2011 update **Screen off while locked script
 

Alright , what exactly I have for you guys , is a script that will toggle your screen off after a certain delay in seconds from becoming awakened by say a text message , or searching for service . This increased by battery life exponentially !

some other lockscreens already have this ability (PocketShield) I purchased pocketshield , liked it , then flashed to a windows mobile 6.5.x build and found that lockscreen to be phenomenal . I love how when I get a text it unlocks firectly to that convo instead of to the sms app like pocketshield did . I also loved pocketshield's ability to screen off in a few seconds . Which the WM lockscreen didn't . Even if the screen was getting pressed PocketShield would still turn off the display . WM didn't , so I wrote this script , which now my WM lockscreen is , to me , the best and now my favorite . :)

In addition , I've tried HD2 proximity screen off and adjusted the reg to make it use the proximity sensor turn off the screen , but there were many times I would get multiple messages at once and the screen would still stay on regardless the proximity sensor was blocked .

the delay time is custom , on first run it will prompt you with a time ! forgot to add that ! lol .

Just run the .cab file :) then look in your start menu for "Change Your Delay Time" and click it . ENJOY ! :D

some facts and knowledge:
This only works for those using the standard windows mobile lockscreen . I also use lockdevice which locks my device the second I hit the sleep button. don't worry , im working on a script for those who use another lockscreen , ie throttlelock , and don't have this option .

if it doesn't work for you , post back with your issues and ill be sure to solve them for you !

EDIT: UPDATE 5/29/2011
I made it into a cab file for easy installation .
I also made it so you no longer have to keep running the script every time you power off / soft reset . your settings are saved , and when you power on , the script automatically runs . so you do nothing .
I also made another script so you can change the delay time on the fly just by running the program located in your start menu after you install the cab . THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT :D
UPDATE: 6/10/2011
Instead of the screen just simply powering off . It completely goes back into standby . With the old cab , if you were to put your device to standby , then turn it on , and let the script power the screen off . If you pressed the end key you could hear the beep and see the lights come on . Now it truly goes back to sleep .

UPDATE: 10/18/11
Added a CAB that upon installation it will always unlock your phone to the today or home screen .

slapped you some thanks havent tried it yet but will soon, just wondering if you are handy with mortscript. I have been trying to figure out how opera mini dials within the browser. Say i google walgreens and it gives 302-456-5789 if i click on the number it ask if i would like to call. click yes and it calls. No waiting on me to click the talk button. Would you be able to replicate that? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME IF YOU COULD!!!

Sorry about that. I download the script and forgot the run it.

I have it setup now. Will test it out today and get you some feedback by Monday.

Kicker is now that my company had taken over my TP2, I don't get as many TXT messages as I use to....so I will have some people send me some during the day today and during the night and watch the screen to ensure it does the 5 second turn off.

And having the script at setup ask if screen turn off only during AC power would be great addition.

yes , I was thinking of making a cab that would put the script into the startup folder so it would run right away when you power on . or , making the script put a copy of your settings into the startup folder . I just don't really find it a bother to run it each time I power off . if it bothers you though I'll be glad to make it so you don't have to ^-^

the only thing that bothers me is that i have to enter the values all over again(everytime i reset) and then i have to wait for your disclaimer countdown before i can do anything

the other script i was talking about if you can is if someone sends me a number through text if i click on it to automatically dial instead of asking if you want to add to contacts and so on, or if you know the command to invoke winmo dialer with the number already punched in thanks!

I'll shorten the disclaimer .. and I'll work on a script that will save the settings after a restart . sorry about that , its just I don't like helping people then not receiving thanks lol
hmm .. when I select a number that has been sent via text it takes it straight to the dialer screen where all I have to do is press talk or select save .. but I'm on my own custom ROM ..
only thing I really could do is , once you copy a 10 digit number into the clipboard .. then I could make it go to the dialer .. but as far as just taping on it , that's mostly out of control with only using mortscript . :|

Just want to let you guys know ive updated the script . all you need to do is install the cab and select the program from your start menu , the changes are noted in the first post . thanks again guys for your interest and feedback ! :D

sounded good, but unfortunately didn't work for me. Installed and restarted, and it appears in my startup menu, but when I try to open it I get the following error: "Change Time,mscr: There is no application associated with "ScreenOff". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application."

I run a stock 6.5 with the cleanup cab. What am I doing wrong?

on a stock rom you will need to have mortscript installed.
Google it, dl the cab. Install that and then the screen cab will work.
On custom roms, most chefs include Mortscript in the ROM.

@elesbb: might want to updat post 1 with a required software list: Mortsctipt being the required software for anyone running a stock rom or custom rom without mortscript cooked in already.

Trying renaming the ScreenOff.mscr under \Windows\Startup and see if you can boot into Android then.

Rename the ScreenOff.mscr to ScreenOff.mscrb so that it doesn't run automatically when Windows boots.

Let us know if that helps.

Are you using the Cab install version or the .MSCR Only version?

Newest Cab version puts the .mscr in the \Windows\startup folder.

Are you seeing this when you restart?

yes, the cab version and it shows up in the windows\startup folder, but get the error when run it from the start menu. wanting this to resolve the windows live prompt that tells me that I'm roaming and do iwant to enable windows live when roaming even though say no.

I have run it from the start menu several times and I am not able to get that error.
Even restarted and do not see that error.

On the windows live roam prompt, do you get a prompt when you use data for say Opera (web browser)? Or just Windows Live?

So do you have the Enable Windows Live when roaming checked? and if so, do you have he Notify me when roaming checked as well?

Or the other way around (have Enable Windows Live when roaming unchecked and it still prompts you anyway)?

hmm , I would check your startup.txt file . I just ran android no problem . booted successfully , made calls , texted , browsed the internet , and it slept just fine too . what exactly is happening ? like what is the error your getting ?

I had this issue when I installed a cab which had a Mort Script in it to modify my titanium panels , after I uninstalled it , it ran fine . upon further investigation , the cab which had the mortScript to modify the titanium panels also had an older version of Mort script in it . so what I'm trying to say , lol , is to reinstall the latest Mort script version .

i uninstalled and booted fine into android, i got an error that said mdp busy 4 on 4 a continuous loop will install again see if i can replicate problem, thanks again! just an idea...why not make different cabs say 1 for 3secs another for 4 secs and so on instead of having input from user its already set...just a thought...

@elesbb: just no9ticed that my tp2 does not have the registry key you are getting the screen display status from (hklm\drivers\display\displayon).

Going to create it and see if the script works now.

Might want to update the script to warn uses if the reg key doesnt exist. if it doesnt exist, the script wont do anything.

Will report back if adding the key works.

On NRGz 29020 sense 2.5 cht 1.8.5 rom for reference.

it running fine after you uninstalled my cab may have just been a fluke . I can't seem to get any errors while running or booting into android . sorry about that . and about having a set time .. wouldn't it be more logical for the user to just enter what they want ? I mean they only have to really do it once .

noticed that on the NRGz rom that i am on that the SMS does not turn on the display.

Looking to see what tweak is doing this but I think with CHT185 there is a WakeOnSMS and it is set to FALSE (0).
Not sure if this key exists without CHT185/2.0 or not?

Found this reg key on Energy's ROM Addons site:
Set the dword to 1 to disable.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:00000000

Not sure if it exists on all ROMs or is specific to Energy/6.5.x/6.5 or ???.

Let me know if this exits on other ROMs/version of wm your on and if you have CHT installed (1.8.5 or 2.0).
Also, think this is specific to using the Stock Lockscreen as well (not the CHT lock screen as it seems to have its own method for this).

this is strange ... I've never had a ROM which was able to keep the screen off while locked and getting a text ..

ever since I came to WM I have always wanted that , hence why I created the script .

I added the reg entry you posted and it didn't seem to do anything .

the only way I was able to keep the screen off while its sleeping and receiving a text , was when I forced roaming or forced 1x . From what I have read , the switching from 3g to 1x is what makes the screen come on .

I had nrgz rom before and it still came on . I wonder if your device isn't truly sleeping ? because I use a cab called "screen off" which only powers off your screen . And when I had that on my device with the stock rom and got a text it wouldn't turn the screen on .

what version of WM are you on?

I am running Nrgz 29020 rom (this is a 6.5.3 version).

Wondering if this is the reason for this working?

I cant think of any items I loaded that would be keeping the screen off during txt messages.....

Will look over what I have installed to see if any of that looks to be doing it.

Funny thing is, I installed your cab, didn't reset. Then uninstalled your cab and it did the no wake on SMS.

I rest after having issues with the backlight dimming too fast ( and didnt seem to be looking at my settings).

Then it would wake on SMS.

Installed your cab, reset and now it turns the screen off after 5 seconds (5 is the number i typed in during setup).

Going to uninstall it and see if it does what it did before (or if there was another cab I installed that caused this to do what it should be doing; not waking on SMS/ 1x to 3g switching).

Sorry, sig doesn't show up when posting from Phone.

Should show up now....

But if Phone is not sleeping, the battery drain would be horible....and I have been getting rather good battery performance lately.

Its back to doing the wake on SMS for now. Have your cab installed, setup for 5seconds and it does work like it should (screen off after 5 seconds).

Will try uninstalling in and see if I get the elusive NoWakeOnSMS..... :-0
