Touch Pro 2 - email/google sync/physical overhaul questions
Hey guys,
I have a Touch Pro 2, which I have been just using as a "toy," but my work phone, a Blackberry, may be on the permanent fritz - not sure yet. Because my work does not have to provide me with a BB, I may be losing it, and that is a shame, mostly because of email. Anyway, I love my TP2 - I don't do much with it but watch the occasional Youtube video, and maybe text a bit, but, I haven't really used it to it's full capacity. (I had originally wanted to put the Android emulator on it, but, have elected not to do that until a simple Alabama boy can do it, and it work fine.) If I cannot rescue my BB from the onslaught of errors and issues, I will need to find a way to get my email to come to my Touch Pro 2. I have multiple email accounts - and love the Blackberry because it was created to do emails. I also have most of the same contacts on both phones, as it was done initially with syncing both with my computer at the same time. However, since then, I have added contacts to both, and I tried to sync my TP2 and it warned me that syncing it would make me lose any contacts I had added since my last sync (or, at least, I interpreted it as that.) I had Google Sync installed on my BB, so, all of my BB contacts are on on Google Sync. Also, my screen on my TP2 is pretty scratched up. I can use it, but, it sucketh. Additionally, I need to replace the battery. So, here are my questions. 1. How can I manage multiple email accounts easily (so an Alabamian can do it) on the TP2? 2. How can I get the contacts from my TP2 and Google Sync to sync with each other, so if I have contacts stored on one, but not the other, it won't matter, because, what's on both will stay on both, plus what the other has will be added. 3. How hard is it to replace the screen? Thanks for your input. Jeremy James |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - email/google sync/physical overhaul questions
1. The messaging app in WinMo can handle multiple accounts you just have to setup each one by going through and setting each one up. Just go to the email tab and create account and input the info. Set your device to check each account at the desired interval and your rollin.
2. Use this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/1995204-post4.html Or this: Setting Up Your Windows Mobile Phone for Google Sync : Google Sync - Google Mobile Help 3. Check this thread just started: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-...er-my-tp2.html Good Luck! :D |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - email/google sync/physical overhaul questions
1. There exists no native way to manage more than one push email account on the TP2. If your email provider supports POP3 access, then you can have as many email accounts as you yourself can handle. On your TP2, go to the Outlook/Messaging program and add as many accounts as you have. I for one have always used my GMail account for push (set up in Activesync using GMail's IMAP settings) in addition to 4 other POP3 accounts. You can set these up in the Outlook "app" as well as configure individual polling schedules.. or just leave it as manual if you prefer to help with battery life.
2. You can sync your TP2's contacts with Google as well. Open up Activesync on your TP2 and enter the Google sync info, then check email/contacts/etc for synchronization as neede. You may have issues because you've used two devices to sync, so I would advise that you make backups at each source before any sync attempts... you can do this on your PC by logging into gmail and exporting your contacts from there as a single file, then make a backup on your BB using whatever solutions are available, and finally do the same on your TP2. What I typically do is open Outlook on my laptop, go to Contacts, create a new folder labeled with today's date and move all my contacts there, then sync using ActiveSync, and finally move those newest contacts to a folder named something like "TP2 2011-05-19". From there, sync the TP2 wirelessly with Google and ensure that contacts did not get deleted in the process. After you do this, your TP2 and Google account should have the same contacts, while the BB will have a few less until you sync that with Google. 3. You are probably best served taking it to Sprint for a screen replacement. If you have insurance and if you bring it in at the right time (they change their policies frequently), then they will fix it for free... otherwise it's $35 for a new screen if I'm not mistaken. Replacing the entire slider assmbly is easy, requiring only a small phillips head screwdriver and time... but I don't think you can buy this assembly unless you find a donor phone for a direct swap. Take a look at this thread where a user replaced his digitizer (much more involved because it requires opening up the screen part itsel): http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-...er-my-tp2.html. I have a dismantled TP2 in front me and it's very easy to do. The harest part is sourcing the parts IMO... I still suggest you take it to Sprint, pay the $0 or $35 fee, and enjoy your warranty along with it. |
