Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?

Well, I just picked up a 2 week old HTC Arrive off of the local online classifieds for $250. I spent a while configuring it and messing around with it last night. So far so good overall.

A couple of things I'll have to get used to or pray for an update are the following:

1. No Exchange Tasks - I do see a 3rd party app solution is available.
2. Can't look up a contact by name through the dialer.
3. Can't figure out how NOT to have my Hotmail contacts showing up in the people area.

Other than that I really like it so far. Netflix worked, e-mail works, calendaring works. Not too bad. I'm not even really sure if I'll be able to get this set up on Page Plus but I'll give it a shot this weekend when the TP2 isn't so busy taking calls.

I'm so gonna stick with my TP2 until TP3 or something better. The Arrive looks good physically. Hey does anyone know if its possible to have the TP2 operating system on the Arrive? like flash it or soemthing....That would rock...

for #3 all u do is goto email and accounts in settings and then uncheck contacts under hotmail. I sure hope u didn't setup the hotmail account u have used for many years setup as primary, otherwise there's no way to remove the clutter from messenger contacts. that's why its recommended that one create a new hotmail account and set that up as primary for PIM, marketplace and such then use the other one for emails.

as for pageplus I don't think it will work as it needs to be a Verizon branded phone. ud have much better luck with cricket/metroPCS or boost. while on this subject back in 2009 when I had a TP I was unsuccessful in getting it activated on cricket/metroPCS (due to different bands used in my area) and boost due to my area not yet being covered by boost CDMA like it is now. as far as the arrive is concerned u will need an unlimited data plan or always need to be near a WiFi hotspot to use it to its full potential because currently im using 8GB of data that's up by 7GB from my tp/tp2 days. with pageplus u only get 200MB so imagine the overages.

what one can do on the arrive with its current OS far outweighs what one can't do currently.

Unless, of course, the things it can't do are important to you and the new things it can do are not. Despite what Eric preaches, many have made the same decision not to go with the Arrive. I hear on the grapevine that sales have been somewhat disappointing although supposedly WP7 has "slowed the decline" in windows' market share of smart phones.

aja really? are u listening to yourself? got some numbers or source to back that up? is this also why analysts are predicting that wp7 will overtake the market by 2013? I can pull up a source to back this up. its good to know that I can always count on you as well as a few others for the daily idioteces.

Here's one..

IDC Predicts Android and Windows Phone 7 (WP7) Will become the most popular OS mobile in 2015 | newstodaynews.com

And how I read it..wp7 sits as runner-up(by quite a margin) in 2015

What are people doing about their new requirements to get phones after the Touch Pro 2 that our "old" plans are no longer acceptable, even if we pay for the new internet option.

and here's the better one that I was talking about:

Analyst: WP7 to beat Android by 2013, not 2015 | wpcentral | Windows Phone News, Forums, and Reviews

What new requirements are you referring to?
