Either phone is good, but i'd say wait until all these new awesome phones announced come out and current phones should go down in price and all the new options will available will be much better. But umm why did you name the title Nokia x6 or HTC Touch pro 2 and not mention the nokia at all? lol

Don't get a TP2. It was a great phone, a year or more ago. When you can get phones like the EVO for the same price or the EVO Shift for 50 bucks less, TP2 makes zero sense. Also it won't hold a candle to iPhone 4.

If he is studying computer engineering then get him a Pocket PC like the Touch Pro2 or an HD2 not a toy like the iPhone.

TP2 definitely more interesting for an engineer. Although phone might not be as advanced as iPhone, you can do so much more with it. I started my phone obsession with TP2, and I've played with iPhones, and I would never get an iPhone.

If he is a Computer Engineer, then definitely get an Android phone...simply because Android is based on Linux and uses a Linux kernel...its also Open Source so he would be able to tinker with it....most computer engineers should already be familiar with linux..

You are in UK I see so right now Nexus S is the developer phone for Android..if you want to wait then you can get a Dual Core phone..

Other choices are the Nokia phone with MeeGo but with the recent announcement I don't know how it will fair :/

The TP2 is very fun to mess around with, you guys are right. But is it really worth the frustration of not having a functional phone? I ran WM6.5, Android 2.2, and some random version of Ubuntu on my TP2 and it was fun, but when it came down to it the platform I had to rely on (WM6.5) was so unstable, I'd have to restart my phone many times a day. With Android, I can still do my geeky tinkering, but my phone always works. I forgot what soft-reset means!

using the stock 6.5 ROM will need many soft resets. using VINs latest rom combined with the tweaks mentioned in this thread i dont get hung up at all anymore unless i run RAM sweeper. to say that running Android on a TP2 being more stable is a total fallacy, if u push ur phone to do too many things at one time than the processor can handle it WILL FREEZE in Android too. ive had it happen before.

Crap, download a solid build of 6.5 and build your own rom with PPCkitchen....strip it down. 6.5 is very solid if you don't put really crappy made software on it. 6.5 or 6.5.X, can be made very solid. It's almost as easy as checking a few boxes....really...

Don't get me wrong Vins roms are good but, I can get more memory free, faster perfomance and JUST WHAT I WANT, not what Vin wants in my own rom.

I can honestly say, on a Stripped 6.5 build that I created, just MS office on it, I went 3 weeks with out having to reboot it (and even then I didn't need to, it was getting a little run down). I gave up because I like to play a little more than that.

The Touch Pro 2 is a great phone, no question but, it is yesterday's news. It's a few years old now and with the other options out there, it might be better to get a faster, better display unit. With that being said, it can have a lot of different faces.

I personally would wait for a WP7 phone as it's the newest and fastest but, if wanted a proven phone that can be hacked in so many ways, the Touch Pro 2 is a nice option, things you just cant do with a iPhoney
