Incall volume changes after soft reset

I have an issue with the first call i make or receive after a soft reset. The volume I hear from the earpiece is all the way to max(5). I open the volume overlay screen or use the volume rocker to adjust it. When i do this the volume on screen is set at 2. So typically i adjust it down 1 and then back up 1. Afterwards the actual volume i am hearing is at 2 and the screen displays it at 2. The volume sticks for all subsequent calls until I soft reset the device.

Ive tried changing all kinds of regs in HKCU and HKLM with no success. Is it something inside htcvolumecontrol.dll?

Do others experience this? Does neone have registry values or other info on making my earpiece volume stick after a soft reset? Thanks
