WinStartBeta2.cab

RC3 Released today. Maybe it fixes the problems with RC2. I do not plan on testing as the memory footprint seems too high to me.

It is possible that there was a flaw in my evaluation as I only spent a couple of minutes on it.

I did not measure the memory being used by the application, but rather the free memory on my phone.

Here are the stats that I had for Boot / After Regular Use
  • Manila Start - 80MB / 50MB
  • Panel Start - 81MB / 49MB
  • WinStart Beta - 64MB / 38MB
  • Standard Start- 62MB / 37MB
Granted this is not a scientific test. Please share if your experiences are different as accurate information is far more valuable.

Tested again. You are correct - my tests were flawed.

You're numbers are still mind bendingly LOW!! WOW, I reboot when I get below 50MB!!!

Anyway here's how I check memory stuff if it helps out anyone in the future... Just go into Windows taskmanager, processes & look at usage. Depending on your ROM you may have to assign a key to it with Rhodium Keyboard Config cab (search for that term to find it). OR, I use wktask which shows tiny icons of running tasks in the upper left of my taskbar, clicking on them brings them to the front/pulls up the task, so I run both & if I need to view while it's running, just click over to taskmanager background task, OR back to the homescreen & start taskmanager with the other as a background running task...

In this case, 15KB...it actually shows 128kb (kilo bits), then divide by 8 to get bytes (big B) (8 bits in a Byte)... Arkswitch alone uses around 2MB if I remember right.. (another one I dump), that's 15 times as much, you still have that running in your startup? :>))

I use battclock from xda & config with 4 tiny monitors up in the clock area, one being free RAM by whole numbers. When I hit the winkey/start hardkey to pull up Winstart it never changes, while trying on other programs always does.

But, one might debate that is because the program is "stay resident in memory"... lol remember that term?... But that's exactly what windows taskmanager, processes will show you..

Hope that helps.

Say hello to Cookie 2.0 / VoiceCommand / Arckswitch / ActiveSync (push).

Just the same, it has been rock solid for me.

I will try the task manager you mentioned and try not to get offended at the eduction provided about bits and bytes...

Thanks

Thanks
Rather say goodbye, lol

re. bits/bytes: not offense intented... NEVER, after all you are the registry & cab master!
"if it helps out anyone in the future", was put in purposely to direct the response for others not as a response to you (otherwise I would have left it out)... Also, I find most people explain things but leave out key details on many of the small items that really make the difference to many people, especially acronyms! I like to over explain, but that sometimes makes it wordy.. (like this response):>)) I'll bet 1/2 of those reading this don't / didn't know the diff between B & b!

BTW: Think I'll stick with winstart beta 2, RC3 still has the timebomb in it set for 10 days...

Re: DREAM PHONE - Mini guide :>))

Hey tera im a long time follower of ur advice. Just wanted to tell you my reults with a set pp. Using dynamic I usuall have 120 megs free with ipt. I can tell you with a pp of 10 I actuall have more free ram naturally. I think it has to do with the cpu constantly having to monitor ram usage and som programs naturally using more ram than others. Also while the pp is supposed to be used by the os I think the cprog, device.exe, and gwes, filesys may all use that reserved pp ram. Try it out some time and tell me what you think.
