move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

I have a US Cellular TP2, I'd like to move to T-Mobile. T-Mobile says they can't help me until the CDMA settings will change in network settings to GSM. My question is, what do I have to do to be able to change the setting under "mode of operation" from CDMA only to GSM? I've been messing with this phone for about 4 days off and on. I've learned a great deal about WM, cell phones and cell phone networks. But,, not enough. This phone doesn't have a SIM card in it. My new TP2 from US Cellular doesn't have a SIM card under the battery. My son has the TMobile SIM card he wants to put in the older US Cellular TP2. What am I missing? I got mighty rom loaded, it works great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

CDMA don't use SIM cards so a US Cellular phone will never have one in it. All you should have to do to get voice working is put the SIM Card in the TP2 and it will show GSM and CDMA in the network options. As for data you will need to find TMobile settings. I don't think you can get 3G on GSM with a CDMA TP2 tho.

Re: move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

You have to Unlock your TP2 Sim for U.S. Carrier use.

Olipro->Creations(&RhodiumW_Unlock); - Touch Pro 2 Worldphone Unlocker

As far as I know there is no free solution, but I think they only charge about $20.

Here is the The thread on PPCGeeks about it

¡MALDITA SEA! i was beaten to it. you need to visit the thread in the post above to get the tp2 SIM unlocked. however i personally dont think its worth it as the CDMA TP2s do not have 3G internet on GSM networks so unless you are doing this for someone who doesnt have a data plan id recommend just going for the HD2 or HD7 as they are better phones than the TP2.

Re: move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

Thanks for the reply, You know, I tried that,,,it changed, when my son took the phone over to Tmobile they said it wouldn't work. Does this phone still need to be unlocked in some way I'm just not aware of? I'm a complete noob to cell phone stuff.

Re: move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

not sure the phone was locked when I got it,,,had a cricket rom on it,,I did the hardSPL thingy, downloaded mighty rom,,installed that, it worked fine. I can make the wireless internet stuff work, I can dial a number, a recording picks up the call, asking about a collect call, international call or using a credit card to call..thats why i ask here,,what's left to do? For some reason,,at random when I test it out, verizon will answer the phone. What part do they play in this US Cellular, cricket, TP2 phone

Re: move a US Cellular TP2 to T-Mobile

So,,is the link above the link to "unlock" this phone so it will work anywhere or with any network, provided the carrier will allow it to work?
