If it was you who lost it, I bet you would want it back.
On the other hand call Sprint and explain how phone was given to you and have them contact the og owner and explain the situation to them, maybe owner would be willing to deal with you.
Thats how I came acrosa my first PPC 6700. They were going for $400 at the time and only cost me $100.
