OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
I'm a NOOB, please help. I wanted the smartest phone that I could get and still keep my old Free and Clear plan ($80/mo, 3 phones, unl. data, yada, yada). I have never been so intimidated by a piece of technology, and I fly airplanes! Non-ergonomic, slow, non-user friendly, non-intuitive, oh, and did I mention non-fast? Does it get better? I really love technology, and I'm willing to do a flash and upgrade. Do you think I'll ever be satisfied with this? Thank you for your patience, and thank you for your opinions.

Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
The TP2, imo, is the best phone for those with older plans. You might want to look into flashing a ROM on it which will free up a lot of memory and make the phone flow a lot faster. I even disable Sense to free up about 20MB.

Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
nah, you didn't screw up... don't get your undies in a bunch. First of all, you're on a stock ROM that's known to be a bit buggy for some people, but others will tell you it's fine. My first recommendation is to play with the phone for a little bit, see what you like about it and what you don't (DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT PLAY WITH PHONE WHILE FLYING THE PLANE!!!!). Then do some reading in the upgrade forum regarding unlocking the phone and flashing ROMs. You're on sprint which is CDMA, make sure you only flash things appropriate for the CDMA TP2 (or a nice looking lady at the bar, but I ain't responsible for your actions....). There are also a ton of cab files (applications) that will improve the usability of the phone without even having to flash it to a custom ROM. Just play around with it and get used to it a bit before you jump into flashing it. And make sure you read and then read some more. And also search for answers to any questions you have, they more than likely have already been asked. if you can't find answers, post away! And welcome aboard, you picked up a nice phone that you will eventually love!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)
You just found thr pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. For a ROM may I suggest the ROM by leadpoizon. |

if you want your phone to be faster, disable HTC Sense and install SPB Mobile shell. Your phone will take off flying with you... :-)

Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
It might take a bit to figure out what "disable HTC sense" means, but give it some time. I came from blackberry world a month ago for the exact same (sero) reason you did :) Since then, I've flashed a couple roms, settled on the Energy rom, and still keeping tweaking it on a regular basis to suit my needs. The stock software does suck in comparsion though, there's not enough options. Once you get comfortable with it, you'll be adding apps just like any other phone, tweaking the notifications to fit your needs (mighty's notification blinking light cab is helpful if you don't want to constantly have the blinking LED for every email), and disabling htc messaging for wm messageing just like the rest of us :) The search function on this forum will pretty much answer all your questions. So, no, I'd say you didn't screw up. You can't touch the functionality of these phones for what we're paying on a monthly basis for service. Actually, I'm jealous, I've got two sero's at $70 a month. So for what you're paying, you're not allowed to complain :)

dude. go return your tp2s. you will regret getting a very outdated phone. don't even bother learning how to tweak windows mobile. it is a dead operating system.

Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
Welcome! no mistake, aside from 4g (requires new plan) the tp2 is hands down the MOST capable phone on the market. there are apps for ppc's going back to 2002 that will still work (many will, some may not).
I know I've been seeing different flight apps popping up for years, just wish I could get my wings. ;) step1 complete; your here :) step2; 1st app ; 2nd app. |
Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
the stock 6.5 rom is known to be all those things u said. the stock 6.1 rom is worlds better

Re: OMG! Bought 3 TP2s: Did I screw up?
Thanks to you all for your replies. I guess I'll sort through the various ROMs and try to make a few improvements. I'll be in Europe in a couple of days. I was hoping to use WIFI and SKYPE, but it looks like the only way to do that is through the speaker-phone. And, I guess I need to call Sprint to unlock the GSM so that I can use my EKit international sim card.
Edit: I just called Sprint International and she told me that TP2s are all unlocked. |
