Help a newbie?

I just got my touch pro 2 for sprint. I have never flashed a rom.

I need the following minimum features:
1) Use the phone internationally and on local US gsm networks
2) I want some Turn by Turn (text to speech) navigation software that is free installed
3) I like the stock sprint rom (upgraded to windows mobile 6.5), I'd like to stay in windows mobie 6.5

There are so many things out there. I am confused where to start.

Can someone help a newbie?

tp2 upgrades forum for sim unlocking/hspl unlocking. good Turn by Turn (text to speech) navigation software isnt gonna be free that i know of. i would suggest you unlock/flash to a custom 6.5 rom cause you will see lots of gains across the board. vins roms are very stable/fast once you get unlocked.

oops, wrong forum also, tp2 forum for this thread.

Does this mean unlocking and flashing are the same step? or 2 separate steps?

See i saw that link, it isnt clear if I need to do HSPL unlock first and then move to the sim unlock or do i just do a sim unlock?

you need to unlock phone first then you can flash a custom rom. you may need to do some reading before you go all crazy but its not had to unlock or flash after your unlocked. sim unlocking is also what yu wanna do, separate thread on that also in upgrades forum and a sticky.

Re: Help a newbie?

Use the HSPL unlocker to unlock your phone from here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-tp2-u...w-hardspl.html

For the SIM unlocker, go here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-tp2-u...-unlocker.html

After you unlock your phone (HSPL unlocker) go to here to find a suitable custom rom that you would like to use.

Read the first couple of posts of both the unlocking threads above. If you have any questions, search within those threads for an answer first. If you can't find one after that or no one else had the same problem/issue/question as you, post in the thread and wait for a reply.

Re: Help a newbie?

Thanks for the replies. So what is the difference between a radio and a rom? Are they the same thing?

The notes say that I have to install the patched radio after sim is unlocked, so after this, am I tied to down to the ROM?

What is the order of things?

Thanks
Uday

Re: Help a newbie?

gsm or cdma - radio
windows mobile 6.1 or 6.5 or any customized OS - rom

you are never tied down to the ROM. you can change ROMs every hour if you want. of course...considering that you've HSPL unlocked your phone.

There are different versions of radios for different carriers and some switch them to see if they can get better results. Also, there are Worldphone Unlocked radios that some flash after SIM Unlocking for US GSM networks.
