Battery dies while Internet Sharing

Every time I use Internet Sharing (USB), the battery eventually dies.

I think it is because it is getting hot, and the phone will not charge a hot battery. OR is it possible the USB port is not providing enough power???

This happens after about an hour or 2. I have tried several Roms, same problem.

Anyone else having this problem?

USB is not strong enough to charge while tethering

why not use wifi tether? im sure most roms have included nowadyas. i could go for 5 or 6 hours with wifi tether. plug the phone into the wall perhaps in front of a fan or on something cold and itll be fine.

While it's true that a standard USB port doesn't have enough current to handle this phone under use, is it possible you have disabled charging while tethering?

Also, if you have multiple USB locations on your laptop (I'm assuming you're using a laptop), use the single port, not one of the dual ports. The single port often supplies more current than the doubled ports.

Thanks for the replies. I am using a laptop, will try the single port.
WMWiFi Router shows current draw while on AC power (wall charger) using WIFI connection is 700 mA when battery is charging, 300 mA at full charge

I believe this has been posted in another thread but I'm not ambitious enough to look for it...

Each USB hub (internal to the computer) supports 1A max output. A dual-port connector splits this capacity (500mA max each) while a single-port allows the maximum output. This is why you can use a single-cable external DVD/HardDrive on some USB ports but on others you may need an extra USB cable for power (or use a power supply).

This is a simplified summary. An in-depth explanation can be found by searching over the last couple of month of posts on PPCG or checking Wikipedia on the subject (USB2.0).

You might want to give one of these a try - just a little extra power to charge the phone - http://www.bixnet.com/5vps2powercord.html - I don't have one, but it looks like it should work.
