You could just buy a new battery cover if anything were to happen.

Nice write up though, thanked

I don't know WHY it's there, but I figured if you remove all of it, not only will you get better sound but will also cool the battery down since there will be improved ventilation. I can only think of 2 things why it's there: 1) to protect from water exposure, 2) for a resonator chamber (think of a bandpass box for your 12"s).

Sometimes my hands are slightly wet when I answer the phone, so I avoided doing that. Do you get a lot of dust behind the cover?

I removed the window for the camera, but surprisingly haven't got that much dust back there, I do need to find a tiny piece of glass to put there...

That's what I was thinking, insurance is not gonna care, you can always swap them out if you need to. As far as warranty, I doubt the guys at the sprint store are gonna care about the plastic cut out, but I could always leave the back cover in the car and tell them I left it at home, they can use the new cover to turn in with the bad phone.

Plus I have ghost armor, but if I guesss I could peel the armor off and bring it to them and tell them it fell off and have them install a new one on the new cover.

Now I remember why I didn't try peeling off the whole thing, I was concernd that the metal mesh would come off.

My Tilt 2 looks a little different, but when I take the back cover off the highs disappear, the sound is muffled and it isn't much louder than with it on.

Probably because you are getting more mid and bass now

Well the TP2 seems to have some sort of screen all ready on it, on the phone part, seperate of the cover.

Or like GhettoBSD suggested, on your phone some type of resonator or baffle that acts like a mini enclosure, which makes sense for a free air type speaker.

I made sure my phone sounded better before removing anything, the difference is night and day. Hell it even sounds better than my alarm clock.

Yeah, my Tilt 2 looks considerably different from the pics posted earlier. Not only is there already a screen over the speaker, but it is recessed. Weird how when taking the cover off the treble just dies completely. I don't listen to music through the on-board speakers, but I wouldn't mind announcements and notifications being a little louder.

What are you doing hacking up your phone???
To each his own I guess...
I'll stick with louder sound via the software end of things lol

Hacking up the phone?

It's the back cover, not the buttons or the keyboard or some permanent part of the phone.

If for some reason I need to replace it, it actually just snaps on and off.

The reason that I DON'T want to use software to boost the audio, is because it's bad for the speaker. Why play the speaker louder when you can just allow the sound it puts out to get out. In fact I turned my ringer volume DOWN from 100 now because it doesn't need to be maxed out anymore.

But yeah, to each his own.

Yeah I agree, who cares about the cover right? If I feel there is a need for it, I'll go to town on its butt! But if not, i'll leave as is.

I just took a razor knife and pair of tweezers and carefully peeled up and cut away the solid plastic area and left the "screen" cover intact.

I noticed that those areas you cut out has a black screen on it.

Check out these pics:

I wonder why those are there?
