Re: I have stop using POP3 on my TP2

From what I know, POP services run say, every 5 mins. They connect to a server and dl whatever is new. It can't do a lot more than that.

IMAP on the other hand, stays running on your phone and stays connected to the server just idling the time away. It's not really "querying" the server the same way POP does. So as soon as you get a email, the server sends it right over to your IMAP client and it pops up almost immediately.

The main difference between the two for most people will be that you'll get almost immediate notification of new email instead of 5, 10, 15 etc min intervals.

right on, i understand. I tested it out and had to set the interval to check email to 2 hours. then I tested it out, and did not receive the email through the phone for 10 minutes ( when i clicked send/receive ) manually. so I dont see it staying connected to the server all the time. any thoughts?

thanks

Well, i don't know what to tell you. I get it right away with imap... since I also have my work email going to my phone, sometimes it even beats the mail client on the PC! lol

do you recall/could you check the check email interval setting? I dont see why imap4 would have an interval setting if it is staying idle connected, and not querying constantly. thanks in advance

Well, i'm using the Energy ROM first of all. And in this rom there is no option for that. I set up 1 gmail account only and set it up as IMAP.

I usually use flexmail (haven't gotten around to setting it up because I have so many email addresses) and i don't recall it having a interval to check imap either...

maybe you have an option to disconnect after checking imap email? OR you have data to d/c after 5 mins of idle or something. That's the only thing i can think of.
