If you are going to be traveling to a number of countries, there are many cards available. I personally use maxroam at maxroam.com, but I am not sure it's the best by any means. However, if you are going to be making or receiving a handful of calls, I'd use the Sprint card, as all the others have fixed charges or minimums that will increase your costs sharply if you are making/receiving only a few calls. The best solution is Skype for use where wifi is available. Only pennies per minute. That will work on your Pro2. However, you have to download the cab off the Pccgeeks website as it isn't officially available longer for winmo. In terms of other ROMs, I use Sprint Lovers. But it is no longer being developed. Also it doesn't support gsm data (which might be good for you if you don't want to use the data.)
Yes I'm sure, it was because I got my phone as a replacement for the Touch Pro and they didn't send a SIM card with the Touch Pro 2 because it was a replacement, but I called about a week back and got the SIM card for free.
I was looking for something like maxroam, but it's a little too late right now. But if I ever do go somewhere else it looks like a good idea! I will be traveling to a few countries so local prepaid SIMs might not be the best. I think I will just be using the Sprint SIM card if I need to make any calls. For the most part this will be an emergency phone. I won't be making or receiving too many calls. I might be receiving a few texts though.

I just got off the phone with Sprint, she was one of the best reps I've ever spoke to from Sprint. She helped so much, she'll be giving me a call tomorrow before I leave so that we can block data when I'm gone. She also added the Plan to reduce the minute price and pro rated it, so it will only cost about $1.60. I actually have downloaded Skype already, and have it installed, I haven't added any money to the account, but if I have to I will. I will mostly probably just be making Skype to Skype calls. I also have a Google Voice app so when I'm on WiFi I can use this application to text people for status updates over WiFi instead of having to pay $.50 for each text.

Does Sprint Lovers ROM support GSM calling and texting? Because if so I might use that one. I just want it to be reliable so I'm not having to constantly reset my phone, or have it freeze when I'm using it. Thank you so much for all your help!

It supports GSM calling and receiving. I also received texts, but didn't have success in sending them. Not sure quite why. Regarding your phone freezing, that probably happens because WinMo 6.5 leaks memory. I.e., terminated applications don't release all their memory, so that in due course your free ROM is reduced to the point where it doesn't work. To avoid this, I strongly recommend a free application called Cleanrom at htcaddicts.com. Just put that in your quick links, hit that baby now and then and it cleans up up your ram and eliminates the freezing.
Maxroam will ovenight the SIM for you, but overnight from Europe means 2 nights, which may be too late for you. They will also overnight it to the hotel of your choice. But there is a cost to all this, and it might not be worth it to you.

Well I may try this ROM tonight to see how it works. As for the Cleanrom I actually do have this installed and run it from the quick link, but I still have this issue, I've had other 6.5 ROMs with Sense 2.5 installed and I've never had this issue before. It's only with MightyROM. So I don't think I'll be leaving it on my phone while I'm there.

I would do the SIM to Europe, but I'm not sure exactly where we will be staying, it might be at a church and I don't know the address yet. So that probably won't work. But thank you for the suggestion, I will probably use this next time! Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Data in Europe

Most cellphone stores in other countries can cell you a prepaid sim card and a refill for the minutes. My phone never worked better (voice that is) while I visited Peru last month. I never could figure out how to get the Data working properly through Movistar down there but I always had phone service.

Re: Data in Europe

Good thinking. International GSM data is incredibly expensive. Mere average use will run up 100's of Euros charges. There are ways to turn it off but it depends on the ROM one is using. Even then, there can be a problem of data continuing to work. I suggest that, rather, you contact your provider and tell it to turn off international data (as it can). Then, if something goes wrong, it's the providers fault and you won't be charged.

Re: Data in Europe

FYI, I have used Orange in France and it works file. Maybe search a bit on this topic as somewhere I posted the instructions... basically buy a SIM and get it data enables. You can then add data in France and use Skype. Watch out for unexpected data use (weather etc. as this will drain the card fast).

BTW, does anyone know if the Energy ROM works in Europe for purchased SIM cards? What I said above was for a stock Sprint ROM.

It should work fine but like you said you need to be aware of any extra things added by NRG that may use a lot of data.
