ive got the same problem and for such a small thing it annoys me like crazy

fyi, the 6.1 Blackout ROM does not have this issue. No matter how you respond or reply or what you tap or how you switch your screen, 100% of the time, focus goes to the field where you type. (this is Windows messaging).
I cannot find a 6.5 ROM or fix for this issue. For a rabid txter it's unbelievably annoying

I encountered this issue occasionally on Stock 6.5. Since moving to Energy 6.5.5 I haven't had this problem.
