location weather stopped updating
 

I am running VZW stock 6.5 and for the last 4 days my location weather on my home screen stopped updating but the locations i manually added update fine. When I try to update it with the update now button it says updating for about 20 sec then says last update 4 days ago. Has any body had this problem or know a fix? Thanks for your time.

I know this is going to be obvious but have you soft reset?

Yes I did a soft reset and took the battery out for about a minute. I also made sure my GPS was working.

seems to be an issue with verizon's weather service. usually it fixes itself in a couple of days though.

Anybody else have this problem. I still have it after7 days and and a new phone. Is it a problem with google location service? ThAnks for your time.

I would turn off all the features wait a few mins and then soft reset. Wait a couple more mins and then turn on all the features back on again. wait a few mins and then soft reset. See if that helps.

Nope didnt help. Whats crazy is its the 2nd phones now old one and my replacement because they thought it was the phone.

O.K. I dont think its my phone because i just tried to update my location weather With my wifi on and it updated in seconds. When I turned wifi off it stopped updating. Anybody got a clue?

I'm having the same exact problem. Its the cell tower gps part that doesn't seem to be working. It doesnt work in google maps either. I don't know whats going on. I was having the problem so I called verizon and they sent me a replacement. Still having the same problem. However, VZ Navigator worked.

I don't know. It could have something to do with the newer google maps pkg. I believe it is google maps that puts the location in for the "My Location" Weather part. The cell tower triangulation isn't working for either. If we drop back to an older version I wonder... I go to a local city by me and it does update the weather. So I don't know what it is.

Nvm, it's doing this to me on the stock rom as well.

I am in the same boat. I called customer care with Verizon and the guy didn't have a clue. Both myself and a friend of mine are having this exact same issue. I don't know what to do about it. If I come up with something I will definitely post it for you both.

A little insight on a rather annoying situation. I was about 25 minutes from my house. I take my gf to work everyday and where she works, my location is updating. It's not a huge city but more of one than where I live. I was getting gps off the tower on google maps too. But it seems to be only one tower its working on.

yeah mine has been updating everywhere i have gone lately which is like a 60 mile radidus

So i came across this thread from google and I am having the same issue and I'm on AT&T so it's not a carrier thing. I think the problem lies with google. Like their database of cell tower IDs has been corrupted. If i drop my phone down to Edge instead of 3G, i can get location no problem, but if i'm on 3G, it won't pick it up at all. HTC weather, google maps, or 4square. Nothing can find where i am without a GPS lock.

Just got off the phone with Customer Care @ Verizon and the lady in the 2nd tier tech support contacted HTC about the issue while I was on the phone. From what I was able to gather during the conversation, HTC is aware of the problem and they said that it has something to do with the mapping of the towers?.. That is why it will update via WiFi, but not through the towers. I was also told that they don't actually know what is causing the problem, but they expect it to start working again, although they are unable to tell me exactly when that will happen. I am now on an e-mail list with HTC and will get an e-mail from them once they are able to figure this problem out. I will definitely be posting any new information that I get about this problem as it comes to me. Wish I had better news, but at least we know that HTC is working on the problem and we are not left up to the carriers to fix the problem...

I am in PA today, After I got out of my area it was fine. I was thinking it might have to do with the Radio in my phone so Im trying a different one, I will post when I find out if it updates.

That definitely isn't the issue because I actually ended up getting a new phone from Verizon because this and had to program and update it. I drove 275 miles this weekend away from my house and from 30 miles away from my home to the other end which was Allentown, PA it worked fine.

Do you take the survey when contacting Customer Care? If you don't, I highly recommend that you do so. If you give them poor ratings, they call you back and then bend over backwards to help you with the problem. Although they haven't been able to fix this problem, they did contact HTC and made multiple other calls while talking to me about the issue to try and help resolve it. I was also even given the phone number to HTC encase I wanted to contact them about the issue as well. Definitely glad that Verizon is working on keeping the churn down...

I have the same issue. Also found that I can update with wifi, but can't without wifi enabled. I am in West Columbia SC and on VZW. I have not found any tower that works within a 30 mi radius.

it's been messed up for me too for a little over a week or 2 now. i called them last week and they said they haven't gotten any reports of this problem and offered to send me a replacement phone right away.

Try installing a different verzion of the HTC geo service. I have attached a version I use.

you should call and get that replacement. see if the new phone does the problem. i dont see how this can be a network problem. my city in the weather is usually about 10 miles away from me. just get the phone turn it on check the weather see if its the same thing.
