Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
Ok here's what i've found and i need some suggestions or maybe a workaround.
I found that when taking pictures with the battery cover on, takes not so great pictures. Using the same settings and without changing anything, it takes considerably different quality pictures without the battery cover on. I tried to clean the clear shield that protects the camera but i'm really thinking about drilling a hole or something to get rid of the plastic. Many times now i have taken pictures that were once in a lifetime and they turned out bad. here's a good comparison below: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...m/IMAG0006.jpg<with battery cover http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...m/IMAG0007.jpg< without battery cover http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...m/IMAG0008.jpg<without battery cover http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...m/IMAG0009.jpg<with battery cover |

Only 3 tines???... Welcome to the club.
I take bad pictures all the time. LOL. I think you're on the right track however you have to consider the dust that will accumulate in the lense once you remove the protection. I've thought about removing the battery cover to take pictures and putting it pack on once I'm done. p. |

but in any case, it would also eventually wear it out and keep it from staying on. mine is already cracked around the stylus holder, think it happened from having to remove the battery a few times from freezing on some ROM's. i have considered that it would get dusty and dirty, but cleaning the camera directly vs the cover which is alot harder to do since its not smooth, but inside an inlet, i have considered the consequences before thinking about removing the plastic now, if there is a better battery cover out there that has a much thinner piece of plastic and is clearer than the current one, i'd bite heck, a black matte cover would be nice too :P |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
I just pushed the plastic cover out of the battery door. It's just glued in and comes out very easily and reinstalls just as easy if you dont like it. I also havent noticed an accumulation of dust. I looked a friends blackberry and thats exactly how blackberry did it. No cover and recessed beneath the battery door so its still protected. Just my 2cents.

the only piece i see that actually comes off is the whole black piece that is part of the speakerphone button and the HTC logo on it |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
The green tint is a clue. There is a thin plastic scratch protector (for shipping) on the inside of the battery cover. It's supposed to be removed! Check it out.

Sure do, but I think it may be because I have a US Cellular phone and the battery cover is different. It's hard to see in the picture but the lens cover has been removed.

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
just to ask an obvious question. the inside of the cover has a blue piece of plastic over it when the device comes. It's to protect the lens. have you taken this off?

is your phone a CDMA? or a GSM? I found that same cover online for $15, i might end up buying one sadly, my VZW cover has the lens protector on a thin aluminum piece with the speakerphone button :( |

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
just to warn some of you guys. ive got the seidio 3500 mah battery and the cover is larger than the stock tp2 battery cover.
but when i take pics for instance, in landscape i will almost have rounded corners on the top and bottom right side. ive ordered a new cover from seidio and same result its just the way they are made. the only way to get around this for me would be to drill out the hole another 1/16 of a inch or so. |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
Seems this was an issue for peeps on the TP1 also. I think mine takes pretty damn nice pics, except for those in low light of course. Anything is better than the slow ass focus on the TP1, that camera sucked. The pics were good when it wanted to take them.

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
The problem is that this clear cover is a fingerprint magnet.
I have a lens cleaner that I use to clean it off before I take a picture, and I never have a problem. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/...76f27853_b.jpg |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
gonna do a trial with my protector off (sprint's just pops out pretty easy).

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
Hi,
Did you pop the lens protector OUT or INwards. I would hate to crack the thing trying to pop it out the wrong way. |

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
I think we all just need to live with the fact that even for a camera phone this thing takes pretty lousy pics.
I have a nine year old daughter that loves to take pics & she wanted her own camera for Christmas. I wanted something cheap that I didn't have to worry about getting stolen etc & bought her a little pink camera at Staples on sale for $29. Not only is that $29 camera MUCH easier to use (it picks a higher shutter speed most of the time so the pics do not come out blurry), it takes better pics 99% of the time also........ ~John |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
I drilled a small hole that lines up with the reset button that JUST fits the stylus. Takes 2 minutes and no more taking it on and off. Unless you want to take the card out. I never do that though.

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
I think we're just not going to be happy with the photo quality of this phone. I've just decided It takes the pictures it does and that's what I get for the convenience.
I think it's gonna take a new phone to really improve my photo quality. p. |

I've popped the lens cover off the back a long long time ago and no issues. The camera sucks regardless but takes clearer photos without the cover. No real dirt or dust issues.... And I can always glue it back in if needed. |

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
forget plastic the lens should be glass. for those of us who frequently flash roms dust isn't the issue but scratches and wear and tear. HTC should get a clue and use glass or a much higher quality polycarbonate, I mean what is the megapixel count worth when it is blurred by a crap lens?

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
ive become very aware of the much better pics when removing the lens my only question about doing this is the future negative outcome if there is one.Has anyone had theres out for a while and seen something bad or good?tyia
summer time is just about here in the DMV taking alot of pics and would like to see every drop of water. Edit: Also if i were to remove the lens and it got dust/dirt etc. what can i clean it with? |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
I held up the cover to a dim light bulb, it was real easy to see it was scratched up so I just popped it out.
I'm just gonna keep my eye open for an alternative, may be able to just gab a piece from some other device or what have you. |
Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
You know it's funny, every time I call USCC about the camera they keep acting surprised and mentions that everyone says it's phenomenal. I told her, nope, it take worse pictures than my TP1 did. So they sent me a new phone. Well probably a refirb, it was just the phone, no back, no cover no stylus. I put a battery in the new phone and took a picture, it looked great. Then I put the back cover on, and took another picture. It looked just as bad as the other TP2. Hmmm I took the back off and looked through the plastic cover. It was smudged in the center. (Yes I tried to clean it and so did the manager at the USCC store) No plastic covering (I have found a few in the past that I forgot to remove.) But it was blurred. So after a long talk and several visits to the USCC store, I got it replaced. USCC would not send me one, but they offered to refund the $$ as a credit on the bill if I bought one and gave them the receipt. The store manager said forget that, it could take a week to get it, the end of the month to see the credit. So he took off the back of a new one in the store and switched it with me. He will return the phone as defective when opened. Just another reason I love USCC. The pictures are ok, just have to play with the white balance to get it looking great. But after all, this is a phone not a camera. I have a camera in case I need to take really great looking pictures, but in a pinch this will do. (BTW they are sending me another phone because this one stopped sending txt messages. Go figure, get one problem solved and another arises)

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
After reading this post I took a couple pics with the cover off then on. The pics were a lot better with it off. I looked at my old Blackberry Curve that I had forever and it does not have a lens in the cover and I rarely had to clean the camera lens inside so I popped mine out too. It really isn't even noticible looking at the phone that it's missing.

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
For everyone worrying about your lens getting dirty, the actual lens is behind a piece of plastic that is on the inside of the phone after you take off the battery cover, so theres two piece of plastic all together
one on the battery cover one on the actual lens while the one is removed from the battery cover, even if you get dirt on the camera, it won't damage it since its still protected but i don't have to worry about it anymore since i have my Droid Incredible to take photos on the go, and i'm loving its performance and all the apps that are available |

I would buy an incredible today except my two favorite apps (sling mobile and Sirius) don't work in it..... |

had my plastic cover off for a few weeks and it is definitely much better. But I also don't abuse my phone, it stays in a case (never in the pocket), so I don't know if that matters. But I forgot my camera on my daughter's field trip and it took pretty good pics.

Re: Touch Pro 2 - Battery Cover/Camera fix?
In reply to the comment about a black battery cover, there are a couple of good youtube videos on dying the cover to anything you like..very easy to do and looks way better in black.
