Stopped receiving SMS on phone when using @messaging.sprintpcs.com
 

I have a TP2 service with Sprint. I have upgraded to WM 6.5 official release on the 19th. Everything was working fine and then last night around 11PM, I stopped receiving SMS. I receive many (50-60) SMS/day due to mostly auto-forwarding from Gmail. I am still able to receive mail on my phone just fine and text messages from other cell phones come through no problem. Only problem I have is when I send something to @messaging.sprintpcs.com it doesn't come through anymore.

Called Sprint and of course they didn't tell me anything new that I didn't try on my phone already on my own. It's just like it stopped working all of a sudden. I haven't installed any new programs from the time it was working last night until the present or have made any other adjustments.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So far this appears to be the worst bug in the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM. I too haven't received any MMS messages since upgrading last night. ](*,)

Maybe this will get more hits if the mods move it to the official Sprint WM 6.5 bugs section.

I know it's a long shot but have you guys updated your PRL lately?
It should be version 60662.
Plus have you sent any to test?

I haven't had any issues with my MMS since day1 with 6.1 or 6.5.
And I just check with outbound & inbound tests MMS myself within the last 30 minutes.
So I wouldn't call it a bug yet unless it was happening to every1 on a mass scale.

The funny thing is mine was working for ~3 days no problem before this happened

I've run PRL update a few times. How do I find what version I currently have?

So from our PM conversation I believe you are having issue with SMS via
1234567890@messaging.sprint.com

Which could be just a down server.
I tested mine's & it came over no issue in the last 30 minutes.

Yeah I'm an idiot. I guess that's why my post count is only 6.

If anyone else has suggestions, I'm all ears. It just stopped working out of the blue at 11pm last night so I have reason to believe it is something with the network/server but wouldn't it have been fixed by now?? Going on 18 hours. I haven't got out of this area. I suppose I could drive 30 min somewhere to get in a diff tower coverage and see if that makes a difference. I'm at a loss.

it's not an mms issue he's having, it's an sms issue. sending an email to that address will send you an sms. i believe the mms email is @pm.sprintpcs.com

So if it's a server issue, is my only option to wait?

I'm assuming flashing again won't fix the issue?

you could try a hard reset, i suppose it couldn't hurt.

Nope, it's lost in cyberspace. I have tried sending a text to my @messaging.sprintpcs.com from hotmail, gmail, yahoo. I have also had a few others send me a text message regularly which worked fine and then a text message with the address spelled out (@messaging.sprintpcs.com), which didn't work. They send out fine from all my accounts, they don't get any bounce emails and I never receive anything on my phone. I'm at a COMPLETE loss right now.

call sprint and have them open a ticket. talk to repair and they should help. as stated before, cant hurt to do a hard reset.

no offense, but if you can get email and sms just fine, why is this so important?

I stopped fwding email to sms for this reason. guess which messages get flagged as un-important when a system is having problems.... gmail... lol

actually you could try cleaning up your sms inbox, specifically those 'conversations'

I am a ticket broker so I need to be notified on my phone with a SMS when tickets sell so that I can go online to confirm the sale.

When I flashed 4 days ago, I deleted all of my messages from my inbox, outbox, sent, etc.

Mofo2713: where are you located? I have a hunch this may be due to a small local outage of some sort. I'm in the Phoenix area and I'm having the same problem as you. It's been close to 48 hours with no resolution.

Let me know what Sprint says if you call them.

I live in north Dallas (Plano)

I'm hoping it's just an outage but am getting impatient and want to just say F it and flash to see if that's the problem or not. I'm going on 36 hours now.

I will call Sprint later today when I have access to another phone for awhile. I will keep this thread updated and when you call Sprint, please post here as well.

I'm 85% sure that it is not the phone but the tower/server/network etc. since it just stopped working all of a sudden.

What I'm confused about though still is that I can receive phone to phone SMS just fine, just not when the address is typed out. @messaging...etc

I'm also in Plano, so I just tried to reproduce your issue. My e-mail went through to text without a problem.

I'm thinking it could just be my individual tower that my phone goes too.

Anyone have a clue on how far towers cover before u pick up another one? I could go driving around today and test it out.

I work at Plano Pkwy and Independence. If you want to test your theory, drive a couple of miles south and see if you still have the problem.

Ok, I got impatient and did a true hard reset. Still no go on the SMS. PRL update, force CDMA mode, etc did not help either. Now I'm convinced it's a Sprint issue. But before I call them, I'm going to reflash the 6.5 ROM and see if that helps.

No issues with the tower reported in the last couple weeks. There was an outage last night with 3rd party messaging, but that was closed about midnight last night. That's about it. :-( Nothing going on right now....

I drove down to where lisat said and it still isn't working. Guess the next step is to do a hard reset and if that doesn't work Sprint better have a solution for me!!

Hard reset didn't work either. I'm completely stumped. Have to wait for 5 hours for gf to get home so I can use her phone. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'm listening. I think I've tried everything possible.

at this point, I would say call Sprint & have it elevated to a higher technician...not sure what level that is but if this interferes with your livelihood, then it's a problem for Sprint also.

Here is an ugly workaround:

Instead of "@messaging.sprintpcs.com" use: "@pm.sprint.com". Your phone will think its receiving picture mail and will slightly get confused. But nonetheless, the text message is there.

So there's definitely a routing issue of some sort within Sprint's network. Until it's fixed, I'll be using the PM address. :mad:

Yeah, we've figured that out. It is a Sprint network issue for just a couple of us.
