wifi sharing

Hey all, i have tp2 with 6.5 upgrade. I have the wifi sharing program from xda site and when i run it it seems to work fine, my laptop sees the wifi signal and shows connect and full strength. But when I start ie i get the cannot connect and I am stumped, it worked monday but not now. I use the 1234567890 key and all is well, is it some setting in ie7? thanks for help

Do you have a saved wifi profile that it remembers the key?

Re: wifi sharing

if its connecting to the "router" (your phone), on your computer, right click on the icon for your wireless connection near your clock and select "repair connection". this will power cycle your wireless card and clear its cache hence renewing your ip address with the "router". you should be able to connect to the internet then as long as IE is set to automatically discover the settings.

So you are finding the signal that is being broadcasted by your 'router' (TP2) - so that is good thing.
Try another browser & see if it's having the same issue or connects easily.
Don't import any settings from IE into the new browser.

If it is reacting the same as IE then I would try pmeunier's idea next.

Wouldn't the computer have to be connected to the internet to download the new browser? The problem is that the user is probable switching between a "real" wifi to his phone and the DNS cache is not getting refreshed. this is a common problem with users who use hibernate (I can only guess is thats whats being used ) as it writes a copy of windows state to the hard drive prior to shutting down so when its repowered it loads all the info back into RAM from the old state but is now connected to the new device (the phone) which is restricted to its DNS by the provider.

Yeah. But I was assuming he had an alternate browser on his desktop.
Would a reboot clear all of this cache out also?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)

it might be corrected with a reboot but i have seen it remain expecially if in range of other networks. another thing that could be done to help prevent it in the future is to move the phones wifi listing higher on the prefered network list
