disable g sensor during call

Is there a way to disable the g sensor during a phone call? Quite often during a call when I want to hit a certain numerical key I found that the keypad had been turned to horizontal. Just when I try to hit that key, it turns vertical again, playing peek-a-poo with me. Quite annoying.
