Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
As of the 15th, I haven't been able to tether my internet connection using either WMWifiRouter, WalkingHotSpot, or the default HTC Internet sharing program. It creates the wifi fine and any kaptops or devices jump in the network just fine but it shows a yellow exclamation point that says "No Internet Available."
I called Sprint and they claimed to have cancelled phone as modem service since 2-14. I even offered to upgrade to a more expensive plan and she said ir would still be impossible. Is this true? Is there not a workaround? Because I wouild die sometimes without the ability to just yank out the netbook/laptop and con |

No it isn't canceled altogether. You may want to call back. But with the custom roms you shouldn't need the 15$ plan for PAM. I cant test my connection out right now, can anyone else confirm whether their wifi works. |
Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
That sucks. Do you think I should try to reflash? I have an old rom, MightyRom the first one that came out.
Also, when I signed up for Sero one of the advertising points was the ability to tether (the phone was the Mogul at the time). Shouldn't I be able to complain to someone to get it back? They didn't offer me the 15$ phone as modem option. Both the people I talked to yesterday told me they took the option away entirely, though another guy on chat told me I just have to upgrade to 69.99$ plan from my current SERO 30$ So I'm going to connect to chat again and see what happens |

|
Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
I talked to sprint Rep today and was told that sprint disabled phone as modem completely on February 14th.
|
Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
we no longer have to option to add pam to peoples account, its been done away with. but you can still teather as others have posted, the block just effects legit accounts where people are paying for PAM.

It has not been canceled and you should check your registry because the WMRouter is messing up the registry. Use the HTC wifi router and you get the same for free and your registry stays clean |

i quit using wmrouter for that problem. had to hard reset twice. opera would work and so would pie, but skyfire and tethering would not. |
Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
My friend uses this everyday and always complains about the connection having to be re-established every 2-3 minutes with both tethering and wifi. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?

If you need to use the program, you'd be better off getting the paid version, as this doesn't seem to cause problems. |
Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
finally figured it out...i think for some reason the app TellMe somehow corrupted my wmwifirouter....i hard reset and reinstalled, works great now.

Just because it isn't on your account doesn't mean others don't have it on their account for free... Some ppl here even pay for tethering and their phone will tether w/o any reg change.... When you have the tether plan added to your account, you can tether right out the NIB.... Besides the cab you speak of is only a simple registry change which the cab does for those who don't want to enter their registry themselves.... Quote:

the person who didn't was the Piratedninja post you quoted but that doesn't change anything because having a flashed rom and calling sprint doesn't matter ....\\:D/ theres no way sprint can tell if your on stock or custom unless you spill the beans.... if your going on the basis that you need a tethering cab or flashed rom to be able to tether than above post killed that notion... http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/5593/oreally.jpg |

Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
Your arguing your own posts now....
Never did I state that someone could get free pam addon presently.... Nor did I state tethering was free... My tethering is free but it was done via a code that was valid 2-3 years ago... I have the free PAM add-on, as you see in the picture... I'm not the only one here that has the free pam add-on Whether or not it can't be reproduced is besides the point.... Can you reproduce a $30 sero plan through Sprint right now? Not likely but does that mean there is no such thing as Sero?? Both of your links don't apply to the discussion we are having.... 1st link....All that was done to my account was a add-on....My sero plan has always been a fair and flex since I opened.....Before I added PAM all that is listed in the pic above everything was listed the same and the only change was PAM added on the list and checked.... No changing of data packs, I believe that applies to ppl that got Sero before esamble billing happened.... 2nd link has to do with someone that had an everything plan that thought PAM was included in the plan without addon's.... Interesting enuff I know cpl of Sprint customers that have PAM included onto their everything plans.... When dealing with Sprint you may encounter 10 different answers to the same exact question.... It is possible if you were out of contract and called retentions that they would add free pam to account to keep it if they the SOC codes present and the ability to add them.... I'm unsure because I haven't had the need or desire to contact retentions.... Last reply back to you sir.... The main purpose of my first post was that you were trying to point out that someone was uneducated and did something wrong and it happened to be that you were the person that was uneducated and made a bad statement... |

Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
Ah once again revisited in February 14th 2010. Isn't that V-Day? It's 4/28 and I just ordered the HTC Touch Pro through an auction site, got it in the mail yesterday. Called today to transfer my Blackberry over to this new(old) phone, and I have had phone as modem for 15 a month since I started my contract with Sprint. The rep puts me on hold, comes back to say that she can't get the phone as modem on the new phone. I'm like what!?! This can't be happening. I'm like just add the data plan to my account and shut off the Blackberry plan. The reply is, "Sir, the phone as modem is added to the Blackberry data plan, and if it's removed, you lose it." I'm posting this on f my life.angry9:

Re: Did Sprint cancel "Phone as Modem" services altogether?
To make matters worse, I have grown to hate my Blackberry and really want to get my hands on that HTC Evo 4g coming out this summer. IT supports up to 8 connected devices. When my call was escilated to advanced technical support, that support person told me that phone as modem would never be put back in place unless it is grandfathered in. That even the new HTC Evo won't have the option. SOunds to me like Sprint may have plans to criple that phone, to force customers to pay the 60 a month for an air card. And that's exactly what I was offered to have for here on out. Give me an air card for 15 a month, Sprint csrs
I was also told that to keep the phone as modem, I could however upgrade to a new Blackberry device. I hate Blackberry. |
