Re: visiting thailand, would TP2 with Mighty Rom work there?

Sorry for the dumb question:

Coming from a TP1 (which doesn't even have a SIM card...) I don't really see how this works for a TP2. Could someone explain? I'm travelling to eastern europe soon and would love to use my Sprint TP2 over there instead of buying a cheap prepaid. But how does it work? The Sprint TP2 is CDMA, how can it talk to GSM networks? If that is possible what is stopping us from using it on GSM networks in the states (ATT, T-Mo, etc..)

Again sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm fairly sure this was NOT possible with my old TP1.

And the landscapes...omg. 2 weeks scuba diving in pristine bays and a private hut right off the beach that hangs out over the water is cheaper than it would cost me to fill my car with gas. I realize travelling isn't for everyone, but that's no reason to knock a place. If you don't mind travelling, I don't see how you could not love Thailand.

I was trying to make a mighty mouse joke. (I love that little dude)
and I too love traveling, just haven't made it accross any of the oceans yet. (hit all 48 states before I turned 25)

Are you referring to forwarding my calls to the Google voice number and then checking it online. I think that may be the best option i have. thanks

not sure, but i remember reading blogs about how world travelers would set gv to ring thier hotel room (extension) or prepaid sim# and then callers didn't even realize they were calling oversee's. I also think there is a small, but reasonable fee for international calls thru google.

Either one would be a good option. Does anyone know how to set that up?
Thanks

I have a few questions kind of relating to this, I am going to Europe late July, and just recently got a Sprint TP2. If I would go there go I pick up a cheap prepaid SIM could it work in my device? Do I need to unlock and flash to a custom Radio first? Also once I would get back into the US what would I have to do to switch it back to sprint? Any help is very much appreciated!

MagicJack is also another option. I brought mine with me to Hong Kong, set it up with Google Voice, and plugged it into my laptop. Was able to have a local # to have people call me, and was able to call out from my laptop to people in the states as a local call. Pretty cool option, and for $40 for the device and 1 year of service, pretty cheap as well. Most people don't realize that you can use the device anywhere you have internet service and a laptop, and have a local calling # :headbang:

You don't need Google Voice to use MagicJack, I just am getting people to start calling my GV # instead of my cell, so that I can route certain phone calls to certain phones. Pretty nifty!

that's right. it was gizmo5 + googlevoice. gizmo5 is a skype like app, but gives you a 7xx areacode, but last time I tried, google voice actually had a special checkbox for a gizmo number. :)
