MMS vs. SMS

Hey guys, quick question. If I have a limited texting per month, does one MMS count for the same as one SMS? It seems to be the case, but I just want to confirm, because logically it would seem that MMS should count for more, simply because the text limit is way past the 160 character mark for SMSs.

Re: MMS vs. SMS

do you have a data plan because from what i understand is that mms is actualy included in the data and not in the text messaging parts of the plan.

yes it will count against your messaging bucket. below is an overview of Sprint's 300 messages add-on:

Messaging - 300

Text, share and send your heart out.

Texts: Get it done without saying a word. When talking is not an option, you can text anywhere. It's discreet, flexible, efficient and personal with features like predictive text, the ability to send messages to more than one person at a time and storage for frequently used messages and replies.

Pictures: Capture the moment and share it. With Picture Mail, you can upload photos, organize albums and order prints.

Videos: Lights, camera, action! Your phone doubles as a movie machine. Record life's funny, amazing and one-of-a-kind memories and send them to the whole fam.

Includes text, picture and video for domestic messages sent or received. Additional messages are ¢20/msg (sent or received). International messages are ¢20/msg. (sent or received). MMS/Audio messages are ¢25/msg. SMS Voice messages may incur an additional data charge of ¢3/kb.

SMS - Short Message Service
MMS - Multi-Media Message Service

the difference is in the names. sms is for plain text messaging. you can only send alpha numeric messages using sms. mms lets you send a picture/video/voice with your text message. and also, you have more characters you can input in an mms message.

Re: MMS vs. SMS

My 15 year-old has sent 7,862 text messages over the past 30 days. At $0.20 each, that'd be $1,572.40. Thanks goodness for unlimited text messaging on my SERO plan.

wow!! i don't even get past 50 messages (both sent/received) in a billing cycle. and i have unlimited data!!...LOL. but if i was still 15 years old, i wouldn't doubt i'd burn up the phone with text messages. i guess when we were that age we had a lot of things to say to our friends (remember being that age and burning up the home phone talking with friends/gf/bf for hours at a time?!?!)

at least for now, my son is only 10 and has not pushed the issue of wanting a cell phone yet.

Not all sms plans include pic mial, call in and check so you dont get any casual data charges

Yep. I think my ear has permanent injury from my freshman year in college when my wife and were in schools in different states.

Kids his age these days practically never use voice. Email is ancient, and IM has fallen out of favor. Practically all communication is via SMS.

Personally, I send one or two texts per day.
