Thing about the iphone is if you jail beak it and put it on TMo, it doesn't have access to their 3G, since it's hardware/radio is incompatible, you're limited to EDGE for data. Oh and more dropped calls is the complaints i heard from friends with jail broken TMo iphones.

Also consider the way AT&T's network works, you can use DATA + Voice at the same time. It's not just a sales gimmick.

On the other hand the CDMA/GSM TP2 is hardware compatible and really is a world phone. You could unlock it and take advantage of any other carrier's network (except Boost Mobile/Sprint's own iDen ofc).

Sprint Touch Pro 2 cellular compatability;

Cellular-Networks: CDMA800, CDMA1900
Cellular;Data+Links: cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A
Secondary:Cellular;Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
Secondary_Cellular;Data_Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA

netbooks use SSD's, not HDD; which is a type of flash, but not quite the same..

I have a workstation rig running Windows 7 and, aside from the bios and adapter bios screens, boots in under 20 seconds(to full desktop). Granted, my OS sits 6 15K SCSI drives in RAID 0 with 64K stripe.

for the bolded every single gsm company with 3g can do this...including t mobile...its not something the iphone invented its been here for a few years now...and personally while using it, it isn't really all that applicable. Its nice to have, but not used often and again att advertising

as far as having both or all three, yeah I did. I was bored with the iphone, opened a thread here in the iphone forum about how bored I was with the iphone after the jailbreak then I realized data recovery/retrieval from national research database sucks! And finally, the last revolting thing about the iphone was even with the jailbreak, I was still restricted in what I could do. And that just isn't productive.

HTC does only run at 528 mhz, but I won't lie. I enjoy I balance but I would love my media component and gaming component too. Just like everyone else. But thinking of the amount of time I play games on my device, perhaps a game of xtract or a game of pangya or even physics deluxe. It just isn't often that I play the games. But I can see them as a jump for application performance and overall speed of device. All in all, it is based on your own preferences.

I used all three, came back to touch pro 2 every single time. But its up to the individual user. Though in my eyes android is useless without htc sense =3

Re: getting tp2 today...thinking about iphone..whos have both?

Well I wont lie.. my curiosity got the best of me since I got bored with my tp2 so I bought an iphone. And ill be honest, since i've gotten it my tp2 has pretty much been collecting dust for the past 2 days. They werent lying when they said there's an app for that because there is... for EVERYTHING. It's a lot faster, more responsive... getting used to using the iphone screen and then going back to the tp2 it feels like I have to put extra pressure on the screen because of responsive the iphone screen is. It's LIGHTNING fast and does pretty much everything I need.

I was planning on just trying it out for 30 days just to see what its like but im keeping mine.

edit.. I posted a side by side pic but it was super huge so I took it off

Re: getting tp2 today...thinking about iphone..whos have both?

the tp2 doesnt hang with iphone in stock version. I have an iphone, and it's a snappy phone, but yeah, it does get old. I dont care much for apps and using my phone all the time; I'm primarily a business user, so that may weigh on your opinion. Programs I use the most are calendar, sms, email, and phone. For all of those, it beats the iphone. For sheer easy to use phone out the box, iphone is the clear winner.

Again, I'm a grown man, dont own an xbox360 or ps3, even though I'm a techno freak.

iphone has the best web browser I've ever used, though the TP2 is no slouch, especially with opera tweaks. Overall, I think that the TP2 has some weaknesses, but overall a better phone than the iphone.

If you're an average phone user, I think the iphone is better for you, but if you are gonna tweak the crap out of your phone, it's a tossup. Iphone has more stuff, but the TP2 does some stuff better; The speaker phone use on the TP2 is unbeatable, and I use it often to talk to my boss or clients who need help.

Thank you. Honestly...Have the TP2. Flashed with Mighty rom. Ive had to reset about every other day. It freezes sometimes. Its almost like having a TP1. But the screen is amazing...so beautiful. I know with the TP2 i can do everything the Iphone does...but the interface on iphone is killer. Look ive had WM phones for over 8 years now. Im a PDA user for the last 15 years. So ive seen it all. And HTC has done a decent job turning WM into something useable..but im just soo disappointed in WM.

I love my TP2, I had seen peeps with iphone.. sucks if you ask me... once you get done with the fun of the widgets.. nothing else to do with it..

I put a rom on my tp2 and have it tweaked & running smooth now... soo smooth im bored and waiting for my cook to cook something else up lol... ( missing the flashing & tweaking)

Doid to me just looks plain ugly.

Well actually you cant.. the tp2 doesnt have multi-touch...and you can take pics with the tp2 but they are putrid in comparison.. and NO one can deny that part. And I agree with you on the HTC part, if it werent for them adding touchflo/titanium 6.1 would still look exactly like the mogul. I've said it several times on here.

I still never see the logic in this argument... the part in bold is EXACTLY the point im making. You have to flash and tweak the hell out of it just to get to a point where you're actually satisfied with it. With droid and the iphone you dont NEED to do that because they're faster and more stable right from the time you take them out of the plastic. And what's the difference with once you get used to the newness of the tp2? That's exactly the reason I got an iphone to begin with because I got bored with constantly having to flash and tweak my tp2... editing registries and all that bs.

IMO it's not a luxury for me, it's more of a hassle since I shouldnt have to do it just to have a satisfactory phone when I buy it. What else is there to do with the tp2? I mean, I can do anything with my iphone that I can do with my tp2 aside from flash roms.. and I really dont care about that anymore which is why im dropping winmo to begin with. Now on the flip side, gaming...music...app interfaces...response time... no comparison.

I'm just not going to keep spending my money on the same old OS that's been patched and covered with band-aids when there is so much better out there now. And I dont really care about WM7 at this point.. they've already lost my interest.

Obviously you have never played with the iPhone. I used wonmo palm for 13 years and I can say the iPhone which I've had a week now is the most incredible phone I have ever had. Combine with jailbreaking and this thing is just incredible.

And yet, in the same breath even you admit winmo sucks but you bought it anyway and the iphone owners are the ones getting suckered? Yea that makes sense.

yes i did admit it sucks...let me make myself clearer, it sucks out the box, but once a custom ROM is flashed i have no issues ...yes WinMo is a lil dull but the customization of a WinMo is far more than wat is customizable on an iphone...all in all every1 has their own pref in fones, but in my opinion the iphone is WAY OVERRATED!!!

This is what some of YOU folks dont get... no one here seems to think there are other people that own these phones outside of ppcgeeks and xda. The majority of people DONT flash custom roms on these phones.. the majority of people DONT want to have to put a ton of tweaks on a phone for it to function how they want it. The masses want a phone that works the way it should right out of the box and that is one of the main reasons the iphone is destroying the competition.. because it does what it needs to do as soon as you cut it on. And the same with droid, the number of people that root it are small but with the speed of that thing it isnt even necessary.

I used to do the rom flashing thing but it got old.. not to mention there is almost always some kind of bugs in those roms.. especially the 6.5 ones with sense 2.5... the sprint ones dont even have mms through manila yet people are willing to deal with it just because. People lie, numbers dont.

Re: getting tp2 today...thinking about iphone..whos have both?

I have owned the iPod Touch for 14 months and the Sprint Touch Pro 2 for 3 months. I believe they are both great devices and hope to give fair comparison with differentiators.

Sprint Touch Pro 2:
Pros
-This has the best keyboard I have used on a smartphone.
-This has the best screen I have seen on a smartphone. The 800x480 screen is terrific for web browsing.
-The TouchFlo3D interface is terrific. At first I was relunctant but got used to it and really like it.
-There are apps to allow it to tether to a home PC for internet access at no additional charge. There is also an app to turn the smartphone into a mobile hotspot (Wifi radio). This comes in handy when I want to use my netbook and there is no free Wifi.
Cons
-It requires a soft reset every once in a while. For me this is due to 3G access rather than apps freezing.

iPod Touch:
Pros
-This has the best music player I have seen on a gadget.
-There are some portable games that are pretty good, i.e. Crash Racing, Monkey Ball.
-Many apps are free or have a low price.
-The looks are sexy, very thin with a polished stainless steel back.
Cons
-The keyboard allows for fast typing once I got used to it, but there are many erros, especially web addresses and names.
-The User Interface is starting to look a little old. The pre-school building blocks look is about due for a refresh.

Overall, I think they are both teriffic devices. When shopping for a cell phone, my motto has always been to pick the best carrier for you, then pick a cell phone.

Re: getting tp2 today...thinking about iphone..whos have both?

Well most of the people i know have iPhones. The only reason why i feel that its a good phone is that Apple has planted its seeds in the right places. Nearly every company that makes anything that deals with electronics has has products with iPhone/iPod adapter (e.g. Cars, Exercise machines, home stereo systems). I hate seeing software out there that is available for both WM and the iPhone, only to see that the iPhone version is much better (Pandora).

So lets face the facts here, the iPhone is a good phone... it has a very large support base and jail broken community, but that's all it has for me. At&t has crappy service in majority of the areas that I've lived in and i refuse to pay the mandatory $30 data plan on its phone. I personally hate the iTunes software so anything that has to sync with it is out of the question for me.

I upgraded from the original TP a month ago to the TP2. The larger screen is awesome, and WM seems to run better on it even though it has the same specs. I prefer Qwerty over touch screen as well as expandable memory. I love that fact that it easily doubles over as a storage device when i misplace my thumb-drive. Sure there aren't as many as "free" playable games available on WM that look as good as the ones on the iPhone, but i could care less. I didn't buy a phone to play games on it anyhow. Streaming radio through GSPlayer and reading ebooks is great. If i ever get tired of the look and feel of the phone (which hasn't happened yet), there are plenty of Chefs out there with available roms to try out. I'm surprised people have gotten tired looking at the same 30+ icons on their iPhones.

I have never owned an iPhone/iPod, and seeing how some people are SO attached to it and how the media keeps throwing apple products in my face, i don't think i ever will. Though i am interested in seeing how well Android will perform on this device once a full port is out.

I have several people i work with that have switched from the iPhone and others that are switching to it. In then end it comes down to whatever makes you happy.

You're right.. an issue that APPLE addressed in an official update. Not something people had to hack and tweak to get working themselves. Winmo has an update feature built into it but how many times have any updates actually been issued?

I can agree with this. It's just annoying when people feel like they have to have some kind of allegiance to an OS just because its the phone that they have and refuse to admit that there are better options out there. I've pretty much always been pro winmo but IMO it just isnt the best option out there FOR ME anymore.. and obviously many others feel that way looking at how winmo sales have declined where others have gained.

You're not going to see me defending ANY phone that I know has flaws, im just realistic. Just like I still have my tp2 just because im on an advantage plan, when that supersonic drops I will be android/iphone all the way.

Go ahead and get the iphone bro, I mean that is if AT&T and the monthly cost don't bother you.

I'm cheap and practical. I have a TP2 on Sprint because of what I get for my money.

Hands down though the best experience in terms of reliability (on the phone, not service), performance, and ease of use (they make the thing so easy to use it's impossible NOT to know how to use it when you first pick it up) the iphone wins.

I'm a geek though so I like the TP2.

My 2 cents.

I mean most carriers give you 30 days to evaluate a device to see whether or not you like it.. why not just do both and keep the one you want and take the other back? I mean its all just a matter of preference really however when it comes down to it the 3GS just won me over.. plain and simple. I still use my tp2.. mainly just for people that I dont want to have my new number but I really dont do anything with it anymore. Transferred all my contacts, email accounts etc.
