Good password lock folder program?

Hello all

Did a search for this (probably a poor one) but didn't really come up with exactly what I was looking for.

I've finally gotten around to adding a card to my TP2 and now with real memory space I have uploaded a lot of stuff to it, but I would also like to upload all my work documents to it too.

But some of them are pretty sensitive if they were to fall into the wrong hands like if the phone got stolen or lost or something.

So I was wondering if there were any good programs out there that might password lock a folder?

It doesn't have to hide it, in fact I wouldn't want it too else it would be just that much harder for me to find.

I just want it require a password for accessing the folder and then allow normal access to any files in it after that.

I guess it would also have to not allow any files in that folder to be opened from some type of previously opened or find it in this folder thing of a program such as Word or Adobe

Thanks for any help

you should set encryption of the sd card via settings then... and set a pin to access your phone. this way if you lose it or someone gets the card it will only be readable from your phone and not just any computer. if you do use encryption you will only be able to access the sd card from your computer via the phone though.

Yeah I saw where there was a encryption for the card and maybe I'm wrong about this but won't that slow down any data transfer.

I know this may sound silly considering my post but I spent the extra bucks and got a 16g class six card so I could get the top speed out of this device and if every time I write or read something to it and it has go though a encryption process, if it sows that down thats kinda defeating the purpose of that.

Next if someone gets access to my phone some how which I'm sure if they want to getting around the pins wouldn't be that hard to do, then once they do, they have access to this info.

Plus and again this may sound contradictory to my post but I really don't feel there is really that much of a need for a PIN to turn on the phone, that would mean I would have deal with that every time I turned on the phone when its really not needed.

Outside of just this one folder theres really no need for any added security as if the phone is ever lost or stolen I can just cancel it.

Then if there is a folder that is locked on it that they try to get to via a card reader, they would still need to program to do that so they still wouldn't have access to it.

Not that your suggestions aren't good ideas but finding just a program that can password protect one folder is really the best of all worlds for me.

Re: Good password lock folder program?

Um.. check out my suggestion in the link I gave you. In summary, you can use PocketRAR to contain your sensitive files/folders, and then password protect that RAR file. You can open and browse that RAR file (after entering the password) in File Explorer.

On a related note, there are some apps that if your phone is lost/stolen, you can send a secret sms to the phone, and it will hard reset the phone, and you can also wipe the SD card.

mmmm compressing it and password protecting the compressed file it is kinda close but thats not really what I'm looking for.

I know what you mean about accessing it but in most compressed files I have found, that access is kinda limited as its not really meant to work like what I'm describing.

But thanks for the suggestion.

I have done some searching on the internet for this so I know there are a bunch of program out there, and actually there are really almost to many.

So I was kinda hoping there might be a accepted standard or best of the best as there typically is for so many other programs.

Thanks

It's kind of a cheat to do it this way, but works exactly how you want. Once you enter the password, you can browse & open the files just like in File Explorer. But whatever way you want.

Re: Good password lock folder program?

I'm actually interested in this along with the OP. I've had a bad experience with using the sd encryption where my card is either unreadable after flashing a new rom or it was wiped totally. I'll check back on this post.

Re: Good password lock folder program?

Have you looked at Resco Explorer, it allows you to encrypt individual folders.
