Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
Honestly...why would you drive a sports car on an open highway at 45 when there are lanes open and you can get it to go full throttle??
You device is capable of so much more!! Flash...definitely devote a Saturday for your first time...absolutely start with a LOT of reading...esp the stickied threads in the upgrade forum have a couple of ROMs already in mind before you begin (the "popular" ones are always a good place to start) LEARN AND KNOW HOW TO PUT YOUR PHONE INTO BOOTLOADER MODE before you start flashing so that way if you "mess it up" you can still flash a ROM (stock) to start over Always have the stock ROM handy...for those unfortunate incidents that you have to go back to stock Expect bugs...they happen...its software...can't really get away from that AND...it is addicting...and before you know it, you'll be asking to be convinced to cook YOUR own ROM...and ask for advice on which kitchen to use!! (Calkulin's is my personal favorite.)

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
I say go for it! I have flashed my TP2 at least 50 times since I got it. It can get addictive once you start because you always want the newest thing. These chefs are pros and I have NEVER bricked my phone flashing to a custom ROM. Read the unlocker forum, download all the files you need and make sure you follow the directions!
But, if you're really nervous about it, don't do it because we say so. If you happen to screw up your phone, none of us are gonna replace it. lol. With that said i would go with Silence ROM. Its probably the cleanest Sense 2.1 Windows Phone 6.5 ROM out there in terms of not adding any extra apps.

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
I'll put in another vote to flash. Waiting is always a good idea if you're unsure, but personally, I flashed Mighty's rom the same night I got my phone (I wanted 6.5). Since you say you've flashed your TP1 before, you should be alright with flashing the TP2; it's pretty much the same process, except you have to press different button combinations to get into bootloader mode.
Anyway, I suggest Calkulin's 6.5 /Manila 2.1 rom. I flashed it, and even though I'm addicted to flashing, I stayed on that rom for about a month. In fact, the only reason I changed to a new rom was because I just wanted something else; the rom was perfect! I say go for it; you'll love it!

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
Definitely reflash.
While the stock Sprint TP2 rom was decent, I gained much by going to a custom ROM. I settled on EnergyRom Leo (Windows 6.5 build 21xxx with sense 2.5 plus landscape support). A couple of benefits I've seen: 1. Freed up onboard storage and cpu cycles by getting rid of Sprint bloat. For example.., Despite the TP2 being a quad-band world phone geared toward business users and winmo hackers, sprint waste space by preloading the NASCAR app on the phone. Nevermind that 99% of this phone's demographic could care less about NASCAR, sprint waste our space because it could potentially be another buck for them. And then there's cpu cycle / battery waste by services like CM Guardian and push internet. Custom ROM and a little registry hacking fixes all that. 2. I get windows 6.5 and sense 2.5, now. Not months from now, after sprint has mucked it up with their crap. And that's assuming they even decide to release it. They've gotta make support material for it, train their support people it on it, update the TP2 manual, etc.,.. before they will officially release it. I don't need or want them to hold my hand. I want them to get out of my way. If I wanted an expensive, nerf-walled garden, I would've got that ATT smartphone. ![]() 3. Most of the custom ROMs are pretty darn stable. I've only seen my phone crash, twice?, maybe. And it was from stuff I was messing with. And if there is a problem, I just come here and search. Odds are, that someone else has already had the problem and there's already a solution for it. I, also, say go for it. You can always flash back. |

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
As you have been told, flashing (and PPCGeeks) is much like CRACK, once you start....the universe is endless! In with the new and out with the old. I am ashamed to admit, that I started flashing with my first phone ppc 6700 and haven't stopped. Flashed my TP2 the day the unlocker was released!
I even choose my phone because of the capabilities, knowledge and help received at PPCGeeks! I think with your nerves that you have already chosen what you want to flash and it seems (no predjudice here) that you have done your research well. It is all about what you want and getting it. (much love mighty!) I recommend some medication to keep you calm during your first flash AND medication to keep your flashes to a slow role after, LOL. Enjoy! P.S. There are much worse addictions than flashing!

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
I viewed some youtube clips of mightyrom. They don't seem to be very applicable if you use SPB Shell. The videos don't cover the difference in speed, or memory/space usage, and nobody has posted real-world differences here.

Re: someone convince me to unlock and flash a rom
I'll throw my $0.02 in...
As mentioned earlier, stick with stock for a month or so to a) give you an idea of what stock does and doesn't do, and b) in case there is something wrong with your new phone. This will give you more time to read up and just get used to what to expect once you start flashing. Then, and only because you're hesitant, and perhaps new to this, go with a mainstream 6.5 ROM running Manila 2.1 and not Sense / Manila 2.5 for now. Personally I've gone the exact opposite way -flashed 2.5 the day the unlocker came out, stuck with it until recently, and am now on 2.1 (MR) because I just prefer stability over cutting edge! Then once you're comfortable and can see that flashing is fairly "safe" these days, you can start to try other ROMs with different versions of Manila, 6.5.x OS / build, themes, etc. Good luck, and enjoy! Of all of the comments in this thread, the "addicition" comments are spot on ![]()
