Backlight Timing Settings Not Sticking!

For the last day or so, the backlight for my display will spontaneously dim at 10 seconds. This will recur even after I go to Settings...Power...Advanced... and configure it the way I want. Even if I leave the box unchecked for when it's on battery power, it will dim after 10 seconds. I'll change the settings, and it might stick for a while, but later on, often after I've turned off the display, it will recur. Quite annoying.

I would imagine that these settings are being stored in the registry somewhere, but does anybody know exactly where and how?

I'm using a Verizon TP2, Stock Rom, with the only recent changes being the installation of the Proxy and No-push Internet Cabs to free up more RAM (which it does very well).

I've installed Text Twist around the same time as well, but there are no backlight functions associated with this, so I don't see why this would effect anything.

Any help greatly appreciated.

by any chance do you have hdtweaks installed?

Look in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight

Thanks for the replies.

No HDTweaks installed.

I'll have a look at the registry key suggested.

Any idea of why the settings aren't sticking or seem to change on their own? I can change it manually but if something else will change it back then the problem will persist.

This was happening to me too. It was a slide to unlock I installed. Not s2u2 but a modified wm6.5 version. I had to hard reset to uninstall it. I probably could have installed another one but I needed to update my rom anyway.

Re: Backlight Timing Settings Not Sticking!

I don't have s2u2 installed, so that's not the issue for me.

One detail is that it often resets itself to time out after 10 seconds, regardless of my prior choices, and it actually dims after 10 seconds even if the check box to enable this behavior is unchecked! A total disconnect!

I'd really to understand what's going on here, rather than just uninstalling things one by one by trial and error to figure out what caused it to begin with.

Another display issue is that when making a call, the display won't turn back on, as if the proximity sensor still thinks it's next to my face. I have to hit the button on top to turn the display on. This is also quite annoying, and problematic.

I didn't mean s2u2 but the wm6.5 default slide lock. you didn't install any other themes?

No, I'm still using the Stock ROM, WM 6.1. Because I hate unexpected quirks like this, I tend to be a bit over-conservative in what I do to my phone (also being new to WM).

I've done some registry tweaking (for example to get rid of the Bluetooth Disconnect message, but that was done months ago), but no unlocking or ROM's for me yet.

The biggest change is the 2 Cabs to reduce memory usage (there's a big thread on this) - one is stopping No Push Internet, the other was stopping some type of Proxy action. This reduced my memory usage from around 66% after a reset to around 45%.

OK, here's some follow-up. The problem persists.

I have looked at the Registry Key referenced above, and the DWord BatteryTimeout, and when the problem is occurring the value is "7" which means 7 seconds. I manually change that to "0" so it never times out, and for a while it's just fine, and I turn it off when I want.

Then, out of nowhere, it starts dimming quickly, and I'll go back to that Registry Key, and it is reset to "7" again!!!???

What on earth could be doing this??

Do you have Smart Lock? check the settings and if you have "DIM LOCK" selected it will override your backlight settings to about 10 sec.
