If you were surfing the net before u started WmWiFi then you can continue to browse threw that website but opening new links won't go through. Same for applications that require data (ie AIM).

When you turn on wifi sharing, it changes the wifi device in your phone to transmit the main signal and no longer receives the signal, making getting online with your phone not possible. You may say that the phone signal is still there even with wifi on, but I believe that when wifi is on, the data connection with your phone is disconnected.

I am going to make to make a vid showing me being able to browse the net using my phone and my laptop using that as its only shared connection... Bc i can open up skyfire or IE on my cell while sharing and still use the data @ the same time on laptop and phone.

I think it might be just a registry change for some phones, but also could be the provider that you have. For me, it didn't work with IE but worked with SkyFire.

And this was done using WMWifi Router and the HTC one built into my phone (T-Mobile stock ROM).
