U.S. Cellular TP2 customers.

I, just like many other people have gotten the Touch Pro2 on their 4-day Black Friday sale. A phone that can be found from certain suppliers on the net for as high as $700 for FREE?!? Who could turn that down, right? Great phones and in places like North Central WV where they own virtually all the towers, the service cannot be beat. AT&T gets sketchy off the interstates, the "can you hear me now" Verizon network is non-existant in WV, and Sprint works well, but in this area the national packages that work well, cost a King's ransom.

In all my searches at PPCG and XDA, it was very difficult to determine exactly what modifications would and would not work on our TP2s as they are the first released with WinMo 6.5 (excluding the possible custom ROMs that may have been out sooner, not sure of any exact release dates on such things). I thought it might be of some advantage of to begin a thread for U.S. Cellular customers to list the modifications they have found helpful for them. I have been through a slew of addons and modifications, many work, some do not. What I have came across, I've saved and catagorized them as working or not. Even if something worked, but had undesired effects, I classified it as "not working" but didn't document anything so if I can remember the issue, I will include it.

I'll start with what is on my phone currently and working fine, I didn't document any links at the time I was grabbing stuff, but a search should turn it up as virtually all came from PPCG. I'll include links for what I do have handy.

Many of the addons and mods were fairly typical. Unbranding/brand masking, interface colors, some functionality addons and customizations.

Primary Theme is Dusk by Pegasus (all the files noted here are in this thread)
Also using from that page, many Dusk addons including:
-Dialer V4 (V3 had the same issues as another user had posted about, and he had it fixed and updated to V4 the next day (even though the uninstaller still says V3, VERY good job on the quick fix)) :)
-Pegasus Invisible Background - Makes the flip tabs of the clock invisible.
-PPC Visuals Disk WMP Fixed - Nice Windows Media skin that matches the rest.

This stuff is from other threads.
-TSOTASKBAR3v1.5_WM6.5_version - adds some color to the top taskbar icons to make them more recognizable at a glance.
-ManilaClockFlipFix came from XDA at this thread, I used the 2.1 cab and it worked like a charm to disable the 1:02 clock flip animation everytime the home/today screen refreshes.

Some functionality addons
-AssassinsLament Wifi Sharing v1.1.1.2(Slot4) - adds a wifi router app to the phone,, works like a charm.
-I did the registry edit for camera modes, but I've seen that mod offered as a cab too. All enabled functions operate flawlessly except the 30 burst routine. You must touch the onscreen shutter button and hold it at least a second to start the burst routine, then the preview comes up with a translucent green overlay on the image, but the stored files are flawless. I assume it is a glitch resulting from data still being written at the time the first preview is read.
-Also did the 'in call recording' registry edit as my state doesn't have two party notification laws. I've seen that available as a cab file as well. Works flawlessly, just choose 'Menu' from the bottom during a call, and choose record. It saves the audio with 'Notes'.
-I use PHM Regedit for registry editing. Works great and there are literally hundreds of sources. A simple search will turn it up for you.
-TP2-Batt 1% is a 1% increment battery driver,, requires a taskbar that supports it. TSOTASKBAR works with it fine (as well as the default DUSK theme I beleive).

Well, more to come later, out of time at the moment. I'll edit and include links for some of the missing ones later.

Take care all!

Re: U.S. Cellular TP2 customers.

um... not to be a stick in the mud, but rather to help you out, most of the 6.5 mods work on the usc tp2. I've not run into anything that didn't work, you just need to understand that if you are running the stock 6.5 rom, there are obviously somethings that are different then from running a mighty 6.5 rom for example.

laymanspc 12-17-2009 03:52 AM

Re: U.S. Cellular TP2 customers.

Not taken as a stick in the mud as ya put it,, no offense at all,, I enjoy all input,, nothing but respect and appriciation.

I've found many of the themes and addons haven't worked with my phone. Even those supposedly for 6.5, but I've found many that have as well. There is such an overwhelming number of sprint and verizon customers, coupled with the fact that the ones with 6.5 are mostly (if not all) modded ROMs (at least to my noob understanding), I thought it might be nice for the few USCC customers seeking such info to find a start in a dedicated thread same as many other threads as to what works with what version of this or that. Much of the info is Sprint and Verizon related, both shipped their TP2s with 6.1 months ago, and USCC finally very recently released theirs and it was the first stock TP2 ROM with 6.5 from the info I've read. Stuff that is simply stated as being winmo6.5 manila2.1 compatible doesn't always work with this phone, many taskbars and themes break things or cause crashes within the OS requiring a hard reset. Considering the USCC TP2 was just released, and they gave thousands away for free, I think there will likely be an increase of interest. I started messing with such things from day one and just today made it to the point of wanting more info specific to my carrier and their ROM. Figured if anyone else chimed in with any info to add, the thread may live a while. Most folk who just got the phones on the 4 day free phone sale likely are still happily using the phone in a stock state. Is why I planned on updating the thread a few times as I don't have time to set down and enter all I've tested as working or not up to this point, all in one setting. Those updates should keep it alive a little while to see if it does generate any interest. If I'm mistaken that their giving craploads of these things away doesn't generate more USCC customers seeking specific USCC info, then sobeit, the thread will pass by the wayside.

Thanks for the input and bump.

Indeed I do, I've not really considered it a bug due to the fact we have no SIM cards. But it had caught my attention. I've been keeping my eye open for something on possiblly disabling the sim status in the registry. As a last resort I'd ask on his thread and see if it would be difficult for a build with that removed.

If you have any old phones laying around that used sim cards..put it in your tp2 and it will get rid of the no-sim icon. i found an old nextel phone i had from about 7 years ago and popped it's sim card into my tp2 and it worked great..even put the phone in global mode lol

Yay for us US Cellular customers. I am getting the Touch Pro 2 for Christmas, its underneath the tree right now can't open it though till Christmas mourning. Can't wait to say goodbye to my Touch Pro. I realize they are almost the same but I watch Youtube videos a lot and the larger screen is going to be a welcomed improvement.

Hello fellow USC TP2 users, just thought I would toss out there what I have done as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have done most of the same mods as laymanspc and all have worked for me as well. One other that I would like to add however is adding in support for Widgets. For some reason it was pulled from the USC build of WM 6.5 (according to HTC). You can add this support back in by using the attached cab's. (I don't have the links to the threads that I got these from at the moment so I apologize to the developers of these fixes for not giving them their due).

The other fix was to add Manila2.1_AllUSACities.cab to add all of the US cities to the weather app. Without this the My Location will work for the cities not in the stock one however this will allow you to select others that are not in the stock one for the world clock and weather.

Other that these and the others already mentioned I am currently just running this one as stock.

Have fun
David

Done, tested and confirmed working flawless with an old AT&T prepaid SIM. Exactly as metaltech stated, global mode and all.

Thanks for the info! Love having the signal meter back.

I too am a fellow USCC TP2 user and I am running Mighty Rom because I was not able to get the Pandora TP2 app from XDA to work on the stock rom. I am also using a cab from this post Preconfigured US Cellular Arcsoft MMS Cab - PPCGeeksto get the MMS to work on Might Rom. I can tell you this rom with the cab for mms works awesome on our phone

Here is a problem I have ran in to...I've got a USCC TP2 and when I check on the power information page it never shows the last full charge or any other information on that page. It never has showed any on this page so Am I missing some thing or does this not work on the USCC phones? Does any ones else's show any information? to get to the page you'll need to go to setting, all settings, system, power and then information.

Hey guys, fellow USCell TP 2 user here, on the coustom roms... I have tried them all and some twice. Only ones that worked well for me was juicys and energys. mighty and others worked well but had a serious #777 cannot connect error. I would have to soft reset the phone to get data back... loved mightys rom but cant deal with having to soft reset every time i needed data, hope he fixes this as I would love to use his rom. I 2 have many mods and tweaks to post but am at work so I'll will chime in and post later... thnaks ...

Nice to see some action in the thread!

I can confirm that google maps does indeed work in the touch pro 2 from US Cellular. Worst case if things that should work, don't. Do a hard reset of the phone to factory default then try.

As for the battery charge app, I found using other miniUSB chargers from previous phones didn't put out quite as much juice as the one from HTC. I've found that app doesn't register a "last full charge" unless the phone has completely shut down and been fully charged with the HTC charger. Someone may be able to chime in with the exact specifics of it, but the above has been my experience.

Nice to see some folk trying the custom ROMs too!

Have you ran the phone dead till it shut off, and fully charged it without turning it back on (till the light turns green)?

If so, then yes, truely is odd.

Google Maps:
Use the link below and install the cab file from the browser in your phone. Its works perfect for me.

What sort of Widgets are available?

Just an FYI also, I found a Theme called Dark that worked pretty well. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=96575
I dont have it installed anymore because of some other issue i was having but from what i remember everything worked.

Sweet thread btw. I cant tell you how much time i have spent looking for stuff that works on the USCC HTC TP2.
What is the Mighty Rom?

Re: U.S. Cellular TP2 customers.

Dunno about everyone else, a good weather app that fits our screens properly with good radar and sat images has been kinda hard to come by without a subscription to one of the weather services like accuweather or weatherchannel or just using one of the mobile websites.

This is something that shows some promise, it is a little buggy with the other mods I have, it mainly slows things down till they start glitching. Maybe trying without other mods may help. It looks like a NICE solution for those that can get it working properly. I'm still playing with it, so may check back in.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548023

**UPDATE**
Tested it after a hard reset (I'd been testing some rather crappy things) and it works fine, only makes the weather tab slower for opening or closing(but is allot more data to to load and unload and isn't any worse than the standard HTC Album tab). Even can replace the data on the standard weather tab and still get proper weather updates on the home/today screen.

Too bad it's not a simple single cab install for most users. Most issues are covered in the thread tho.

USCC on a TP2 here...and I have WeatherBug on my phone. It's ok, has hung on me a couple times, but is pretty good when it works.

So, us USCC/TP2 folks have WM6.5? How can I tell which version I have? I'd like to try some different themes/looks (I watched the "Juicy R1 WM 6.5 Leo Touch Pro 2 Rom With Max Manila" video on YouTube and it looks SWEET!) but I'm a newbie at all of this, so I need to read up first, and hopefully avoid bricking this thing!

I have tried all the ROMs, and just so you know, Most of the 6.5 ROMs are being built using the USCC Stock rom as a base. So u shouldnt have to many problems with USCC and modified Roms. I find that I like Juggalo's the best, but its all personal preference. For the TP1, I liked NRGs the best. Go figure.

Re: U.S. Cellular TP2 customers.

First off I would like to say thank you for starting this thread, I"m really happy this is dedicated for tp2 customers with us cellular service. Second off if you like me have just bought this phone from us cellular like tons of other people have, stop what your doing and get a screen/phone case protector. I have litterally dropped this phone twice and I have two scruffs on them and it bugs the heck out of me. I love this tp2 even tho it has it's own issues, but its a great phone. I have been trying different cabs and apps but not to much with roms yet. I have seen that differents roms interact differently with verizon, att, sprint, etc and us cellular has been covered to much so i'm still learning. here are some of the things i've been doing with my phone so far.
Skyfire app- works great
google maps- works great
facbook app- is terrible for me, very slow, freezes, i browse with skyfire
the channer- good app, channels are more like public tv but its ok.
youtube app- good app, works fine
mp3 trimmer- works great
wifi switch- works great
wallpaper app- works good
reboot now- works good, does a soft reset so you don't have to remove battery cover.

I have had my share of frusterations with this phone but hopefully when I start messing with some roms it'll go away.
Phone can be laggy alot and seems like i have to soft reset atleast once every 2 days. For some reason when i check out how much available memory at the end of the day when running now programs in task manager is about 75%. When my clock updates it will switch my time zones which is a huge problem since i have to always double check to make sure the time is right. I found out that using the charger it came with makes a huge difference when charging battery since it has more power than an motoroyla charger. When my phone charges till the green light shows up i can see battery information like last full charge but then maybe a few hours later the information clears, idk why. My battery can go from 30-40% to low battery real fast sometimes dont know why. For some reason my phone will pop up a 777 could not connect message don't know why but it happens maybe twice a day. I've always noticed that i'll send a text and it will send but a few minutes later i'll check and then it will say it could not send and for so reason when i try to resend or it trys to fix its own it will send duplicates to my friends and they tell me that. It also sends duplicates at random times no idea why. Camera works great, i really like the people function and the scroll bar when you click phone and you can go from contacts, call history, and people its really convienant. I like being able to use this phone as a modem that is very useful. the speapkers are amazing and I use it as a mp3 player alot.
A little trouble shooting help for new users that i have picked up while messing around with this phone. I have had my text messages always say 1 and there is a cab you can download/run on your phone to make it go away and its called fixunreadcount works great. My voicemail displays one unheard message when there is none. To fix this call your voicemail> leave yourself voice> listen to voicemail you left>delete and it clears that notification. That is all I can think of off the top of my head, if you know how to fix any of the other probelms from up above that would be amaaaaaazing if you would post how to fix it. Otherwise enjoy the phone it is really fun to mess around with when everything works right!!
